  • Publication number: 20060065077
Abstract: A ratchet screwdriver having a base assembly including a handle and an insert, and having a can rotatable on the base assembly, and there is pawl mechanism which is controlled by the cap. There is an intervening member in the form of a detent to serve as a stop for restricting the axial movement of the cap relative to the base assembly, so the cap cannot be removed from the base assembly until the detent is released. The detent, or other parts of the screwdriver, can serve as a rotation stop for the can which has selective positions for setting the ratcheting position of the screwdriver.

  • Patent number: 6997084
Abstract: A ratcheting driver for rotationally driving a piece and having a handle and pivotal pawls engageable with a driven gear and being capable of ratcheting and driving in both rotational directions. A cap is rotatable relative to said handle and it has a web for pivoting the pawls out of engagement with the gear. Through the selective rotation of the cap, the setting of the pawls is established. A spring positions the pawls in driving positions, and the cap has surfaces which disengage the pawls from the gear upon rotation of the cap. A method of arranging the driver is included.

  • Publication number: 20040267286
Abstract: An instrument for applying a tie (12) to two items (10, 11), and a method of making same. The instrument is arranged for pulling separated bones or other items together and securing them together by twisting a tie onto them. The instrument can be made of plastic and it need not include any threaded parts. It can have two handles (21, 22) with a tie gripper (24) and a tie guide (26) on respective ones of the handles which can be squeezed together for pulling on a tie to draw separated items together. The handles rotate together, and there can be a crank (27) for effecting the rotation and thereby twist the tie onto the items.

  • Patent number: 6769329
Abstract: A ratchet wrench with a releasable socket which is rotatable in a handle circular pocket and the socket extends on the wrench for only the thickness of the handle and does not protrude beyond the handle. The socket is symmetrical in its configuration and is therefore reversible in its position in the pocket and it still produces the same rotational drive. A pawl and spring are on the handle, and the pawl is snug with the socket to hold the socket in an axially fixed position on the handle. The pawl protrudes from the handle and indicates the rotational drive direction required of the handle. Fluid clean-out holes extend into the pocket.

  • Patent number: 6752810
Abstract: An instrument and method for applying a suture of stiff but bendable material, such as wire, to broken bone for closing and holding the break. Also, the instrument and method are for pulling and holding two items together with a tie. The instrument has two parts movable relative to each other for pulling the items or bone together and for twisting the suture onto the bone to hold it together. The suture is strung onto the instrument on the exterior thereof without having the suture extend through the instrument interior, so the surgeon can guide the suture and accurately string it. A crank is applied to twist the suture after the suture has been initially secured to the bone to hold the bone together.

  • Patent number: 6640674
Abstract: A screwdriver of the type having a variable torque-limiting in-line drive with a handle having a cavity and a drive bit disposed in the cavity. Over-ride drive members are disposed in the cavity and a spring exerts a force on the drive members for transmitting only a maximum force to a bit in the screwdriver. Two adjustable controls are at a back end of the tool and they are used to apply a varying force to the spring and thus limit the amount of maximum torque to be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 5505221
Abstract: An umbrella with an off-center support shaft an umbrella canopy has an elongated shape, which is symmetrical along a central plane. Support ribs of two separate types are provided to simultaneously raise and lower the asymmetric ends of the canopy. Shorter, preferably telescoping ribs secure the shorter end of the canopy to the top of the shaft. Longer ribs connect the wider side of the canopy and terminating at an upper end at a point along the canopy spaced from the shaft. Deployment arms are pivotally connected to the ribs at a point spaced from their upper ends. The ribs are connected to the top of the shaft by first and second hinged connecting arms, one of the arms being also pivotally connected to the deployment arm, which at its opposite end is connected pivotally to a sleeve slidably mounted on the shaft. The deployment members, the connecting arms and the longer ribs form a parallelogram shaped hinge joint for extending the longer ribs outwardly when the canopy is erected.

  • Patent number: 5314469
Abstract: A cyclic action, electromechanically operated artificial heart having a pusher plate assembly disposed between a pair of bladders for alternately compressing one bladder containing blood directed to the pulmonary system and another bladder containing blood directed to the systemic circulatory system includes a mechanical linkage for translating unidirectional rotary motion of a motor located opposite of both bladders into reciprocating movement of the pusher plate assembly.
