  • Patent number: 9088633
Abstract: Delivering content in a content delivery network is disclosed. A request to retrieve digital content is received from a first client. A second client known to have the digital content and known to be capable of serving the content at the time of the request is selected. The second client is chosen from a plurality of clients in one or more service provider networks. The service provider networks have granted permission to the content delivery network to use the second client's uplink bandwidth. The second client is instructed to serve the digital content to the first client in a data transfer. Information associated with the data transfer event is recorded for use in financial settlement between the content delivery network with the network service provider whose uplink bandwidth was utilized by the second client.

  • Patent number: 9088830
Abstract: Method for virtual channel management, in an embodiment, includes the following steps. A command including a keyword is detected. Searching local program data for any program satisfying a first search criterion which includes the keyword is made to obtain a local search result, and searching for any external network video content satisfying the first search criterion is made to obtain an external search result. A program list is generated with a combination of the local and external search results. The program list is presented. If a selection indicating virtual channel addition is detected during the presenting of the program list, the program list is set to be a virtual channel associated with a channel identity code, and program content of the virtual channel is played. While the network-based multimedia reproduction system operates, if the channel identity code is detected to be selected, the program content thereof is played.

  • Patent number: 9088327
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for determining a channel quality indicator (CQI) for receivers that exhibit non-deterministic behavior during the CQI selection process. A codeword is received over a transmission system at a receiver, and a performance measure that is dependent on the CQI is determined for the codeword. The receiver determines an objective function that is based on the CQI and the performance measure, and selects a value for the CQI by performing an optimization technique on the objective function. The optimization technique is performed on the objective function over a range of candidate CQI values, and the selected value for the CQI is the candidate CQI value that optimizes the objective function.

  • Publication number: 20150200846
Abstract: In one embodiment, a device communicates with one or more neighboring devices in a shared-media communication network using a default data rate. The device determines that the default data rate is not supported by a particular one of the neighboring devices. The particular neighboring device is then associated with a second data rate that has a lower data rate than the default data rate. The second data rate is then used to communicate with the particular neighboring device.

  • Publication number: 20150200713
Abstract: In a multiple interface, low power and lossy network comprising multiple nodes, a root phase device obtains phase differential and absolute phase information from the devices in various network paths. Each device in a network path determines the differential phase data compared to its parent device in a network path. The device transmits the differential phase data to the parent device. The parent device transmits the differential phase data up the network path toward the root phase device. The root phase device collects the differential phase data and transmits the data to a central device. The central device determines the absolute phase of all devices. The root phase device can propagate absolute phase information to all devices within the network. Each device determines the absolute phase data by comparing the phase data of the device with the absolute phase data. The phase data is transmitted to a central device.

  • Publication number: 20150200714
Abstract: In one embodiment, a device receives connected phase data from a neighboring device indicative of one or more electrical phases to which the neighboring device is connected. A determination is made, based on the connected phase data for the neighboring device, whether to transmit the message to the neighboring device over a single electrical phase at a higher output power or over a plurality of electrical phases at a lower output power. The message is then transmitted to the neighboring device over the determined one or more electrical phases.
