  • Patent number: 8595301
Abstract: A method and system for message delivery in messaging networks is provided. The system provides a group of replicated queues for messages that are operable to be identified by an application before a message is read. The group of replicated queues are defined in association with a group of message managing systems, where a message is sent to each of the group of replicated queues to be accessible using any one of the group of message managing systems. The method includes creating a message including a unique identifier, and sending the message to each of a group of replicated queues with the message identifiable by the unique identifier information prior to the message being consumed.

  • Patent number: 8543500
Abstract: The present invention relates to transaction processing, for processing of payments between payer's (usually individual payers) and payee's (usually merchants. Conventionally, a payment transaction involves a user's account details being provided to a merchant device, e.g. by swiping a card in the card swipe of the merchant device. The merchant device then prepares a transaction message including information such as the user's account ID, merchant ID and payment information and forwards that message to a transaction processing system, which may comprise a transaction acquirer and an issuing bank. The transaction processing system approves the payment and returns confirmation to the merchant. In the present invention a device associated with the payer, which in a preferred embodiment is a suitably adapted mobile telephone, becomes involved in the payment transaction process.

  • Patent number: 8544047
Abstract: A TV-set is equipped with HDMI and USB connections that allow it to display and run audio-video content from a variety of conventional consumer devices. The TV-set is further equipped to provide a secure HDMI-USB interface that will allow the transfer of licensed high definition content and Internet subscriber services. Such secure HDMI-USB interface also enables a selection of proprietary application modules to be attached. Downloadable user interface templates, much like XML style sheets, are rendered to a user interface displayed on the screen. These are associated with corresponding thumbnails and URI's that allow a user to surf through lists and catalogs of materials, and then to play them in the appropriate formats and provide the machine with a customized controller. A remote commander is simplified, yet expanded to control all the attached devices through interactions with the user interface.

  • Publication number: 20130211967
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for processing a product transaction. An order system is provided which independently stores orders generated by a customer, in a customer order repository, A customer order repository is associated with a customer order repository ID which identifies the customer order repository. When shopping, the customer selects a product and provides the customer order repository ID to the vendor. The vendor provides the COR ID to the order processing system together with information identifying the product. The order processing system then communicates with a customer device via a customer interface, such as a client App. The customer confirms the order and the order processing system processes payment. Details of order processing and other information relating to the order may be published on social network sites and communicated to the customer and to the vendor.

  • Patent number: 8495127
Abstract: Improving scalability and throughput in publish/subscribe messaging systems by allowing the spoke systems to vary the member of the hub collective that it attaches to. The scalability is improved because the spoke systems do not have to have a long lasting attachment to a specific hub system. Instead, the spoke systems can be redistributed more evenly when new spoke systems are added or removed. The throughput is increased by distributing workload and fan-out responsibilities within hub collectives. Availability is improved because single points of failure are removed. Ease of administration is also improved over a hierarchy by allowing child nodes to automatically change parent nodes if a parent node is modified or removed.

  • Patent number: 8472022
Abstract: A system and method for spectroscopic detection of loss in a resonator cavity is disclosed. The system can include a number of components. A tunable laser source can generate a laser beam. A frequency locking system can lock the frequency of the laser beam to a resonance of the resonator cavity or lock the length of the cavity to the frequency of the laser beam. The first modulation element can modulate the laser beam at a first modulation frequency to generate a modulated laser beam. The input coupler can direct the modulated laser beam into the resonator cavity. The first directing element can direct a first portion of light reflected from the input coupler to a first photodetector. The first demodulator can demodulate the first modulation signal to generate a first error signal which is a function of the loss in the resonator cavity.

  • Publication number: 20120266669
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved sensor arrangement, a system and method for determining the rate of ice formation and how close conditions are to those at which ice will form on a surface, and to an improved sensor arrangement for use therein. The sensor arrangement comprises a means (11,12,14) for measuring the thermal lag, heating and cooling of a thermally conductive element, which is comprised of a first and second surface (15a, 15b), said first surface exposed to the environment, wherein the surface area of said first surface is smaller than the second surface. The step of ice detection may be performed by either a passive measuring system wherein the latent heat of ice formation is measured via the temperature differential across a Peltier element.

  • Patent number: 8196500
Abstract: A stitch flap cutting block is mountable to a cutting head of a board blank cutting machine, along with a slotting knife. A sheet of board passed between the cutting head and an anvil head is cut to form a blank for a box or the like. The cutting block comprises a steel body with a cylindrical barrel holding a cylindrical spring block, to which is mounted a blade holder carrying an elongate blade. The blade moves within a transverse slot across the body and is deflectable into the body and may rock about a midpoint of the slot. Impact forces are reduced, cleaner cuts are produced, and re-setting of the blade is required much less often. An alternative stitch flap cutting block is mountable to the cutting head by a separate side arm, facilitating mounting to cutting heads having different diameters.
