  • Patent number: 5420841
Abstract: A spindle motor control circuit for an optical recording and regenerating system is disclosed. The spindle motor control circuit adjusts the gains in response to the change of the position of the pickup for controlling the speed of the spindle motor to maintain the pickup at a constant line velocity regardless of the positions of the pickup so that the angular velocity of the spindle motor can have a constant line velocity during the pickup moves by driving the sled motor.

  • Patent number: 5396165
Abstract: A power transfer method and apparatus for efficient transfer of power are disclosed. Input power is converted in an essentially lossless manner to an intermediate form having a voltage or current in excess of that desired at the load. The intermediate power form is split into first and second parts, where the first part of the intermediate power form approximately matches an output power form desired at an output of the power transfer apparatus and the second part represents an excess power form. The first part of the intermediate power form is transferred to the output of the power transfer apparatus and the excess part is stored. Part or all of the stored excess energy is recycled in an essentially lossless manner, converted into a form that approximately matches the output power form desired at the output of the power transfer apparatus and transferred to the output of the power transfer apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5386393
Abstract: Logic fencing circuit and method are provided for increasing system protection at a multiprocessor system interface so that spurious noise (e.g., attributable to an electrostatic discharge through a signal cable) is more reliably isolated from an active portion of the processing system. The noise fencing circuit, which is responsive to a fence control signal, includes logic circuitry for attenuating a received noise signal by constraining the noise signal to a magnitude less than or equal to the voltage level of a system power supply. The attenuating circuitry outputs an attenuated noise signal to a signal fence circuit which, when enabled by the fence control signal, outputs a substantially constant isolation signal in response to a received, attenuated noise signal. A logically staged fencing method is also set forth.

  • Patent number: 5174856
Abstract: A process is described for removing from an integrated circuit structure photoresist remaining after a metal etch which also removes or inactivates a sufficient amount of any remaining chlorine residues remaining from the previous metal etch to inhibit corrosion of the remaining metal for at least 24 hours. The process includes a first stripping step using either O.sub.2 gas or a combination of O.sub.2 gas and N.sub.2 gas and/or a fluorocarbon gas associated with a plasma followed by a subsequent step using a combination of O.sub.2 and NH.sub.3 gases associated with a plasma. When fluorocarbon gas is used in the first stripping step, a flushing step may be used prior to introduction of the NH.sub.3 gas to flush out any remaining fluorocarbon gas. Preferably, the plasma is generated in a microwave plasma generator located upstream of the stripping chamber and the stripping gases pass through this generator so that reactive species produced from the gases in the plasma enter the stripping chamber.

  • Patent number: 5072420
Abstract: Access to a buffer memory is provided by a controller architecture and method employing an arbiter state machine for control of data transfer between multiple external peripheral devices and the dynamic random access memory buffer. Data transfer channels for each peripheral device include a first-in, first-out sub-buffer. Each data transfer channel communicates transfer requests to the arbiter when data is present in the FIFO. When data transfer to or from the FIFO nears an overrun or underrun condition, the data channel issues an urgent request to the arbiter state machine. The arbiter state machine prioritizes data transfer requests for enabling transfer between the buffer memory and data channels. Once a data transfer is in process it continues uninterrupted unless an urgent request is received from another device. In addition, the invention includes a refresh circuit for the dynamic RAM incorporating similar request and urgent request signals provided to the arbiter state machine for resolution.
