  • Patent number: 7949728
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for processing data are described herein. The system maintains first databases of patents, and second databases of non-patent information of interest to a corporate entity. The system also maintains one or more groups. Each of the groups comprises any number of the patents from the first databases. The system, upon receiving appropriate operator commands, automatically processes the patents in one of the groups in conjunction with non-patent information from the second databases. Accordingly, the system performs patent-centric and group-oriented processing of data. A group can also include any number of non-patent documents. The groups may be product based, person based, corporate entity based, or user-defined. Other types of groups are also covered, such as temporary groups.

  • Patent number: 7783715
Abstract: A method of managing electronic mail messages in an email account includes displaying an open email message to a user on a display screen of a device. While the open email message is displayed to the user, intent of the user to perform an action that will result in closing the open email message is detected. In automatic response to detecting the intent of the user and before the action can be completed, a plurality of deletion options is presented to the user, from which the user selects one deletion option. A selection of one of the deletion options is received from the user. A deletion criterion is set for a given email message based on the selected deletion option and the action that will result in closing the open email message is completed, in automatic response to receiving the selection from the user.

  • Publication number: 20100108382
Abstract: A rotary steerable apparatus is provided having an actuator for pushing the bit or pointing the bit that includes a shape memory alloy. An elongated form of the alloy, such as a wire or rod, is employed in a mechanism that applies force in a direction transverse to the wellbore in response to a change in length of the alloy. Temperature of the alloy is controlled to change shape and produce the desired force on pads for operating the apparatus. The apparatus may be used with downhole power generation and control electronics to steer a bit, either in response to signals from the surface or from downhole instruments.

  • Patent number: 7698368
Abstract: Described are a system and method of communicating with a user of a computing device over a network. Communications occur with a body-less electronic mail messages. The conveyed message is carried by the subject line of the body-less electronic mail message. The subject line records the temporal sequence of one or more text messages representing a chat-like email conversation between users. Each received body-less electronic mail messages appears on a display screen as a line item in a mailbox view. In one embodiment, the entire contents of the subject line are displayed in a drop-down list when a cursor is positioned over the subject column of the line item. In another embodiment, the user scrolls horizontally through contents of the subject line by positioning the cursor over a scroll bar arrow that appears at one end of the subject line column.

  • Publication number: 20080193963
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for determining the state of activation of a (poly)peptide, comprising the steps of: (a) immobilizing a (poly)peptide on a carrier; (b) attaching the (poly)peptide immobilized on the carrier to a force measuring device of a force spectroscope; (c) applying a pulling force to the (poly)peptide and measuring the force required for stretching and/or unfolding of the (poly)peptide attached to the carrier, wherein the measurements are carried out (i) prior to and (ii) after treatment with a known modulator of said (poly)peptide; (d) comparing the force spectra of the (poly)peptide prior to and after treatment with the modulator; and (e) concluding from a difference of the force spectra of step (d) on the state of activation of the (poly)peptide.

  • Publication number: 20080044341
Abstract: A system is disclosed for retrieving a mist of sulfurous acid and creating sulfurous acid from residual sulfur dioxide gas originating from an exhaust of a sulfurous acid generator. In one embodiment, such a system includes a sulfurous acid generator to output sulfurous acid, in a primary stream, and exhaust comprising a mist of sulfurous acid and sulfur dioxide gas. A recovery system is connected to the sulfurous acid generator to receive the exhaust and substantially remove the mist and the sulfur dioxide gas. The recovery system is further structured to pass the exhaust to apertures therein sized to separate the mist from the exhaust, wet itself with the liquid of the mist, and capture the sulfur dioxide gas with the liquid to substantially remove them both from the exhaust.

  • Publication number: 20080044342
Abstract: A generator to provide sulfurous acid on demand and fail-safe operation includes a hopper to provide a supply of sulfur, and a burner connected to the hopper to receive the sulfur and combust it to produce sulfur dioxide gas. An inlet passes air from the environment into the burner. A channel is connected to the sulfur burner to receive the sulfur dioxide. An eductor, connected to a water supply, draws the sulfur dioxide through the channel. The generator includes a safety system to substantially inhibit discharge to the environment products of combustion that are deemed objectionable, in the event of an interruption of the water supply or shut down of the sulfurous acid generator.

  • Publication number: 20080044082
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for automatic determination of colors, which can in particular be applied in online commerce. The invention makes it possible for a provider, for example, to indicate the correct color of merchandise, so that a customer can knowingly find, order and acquire the merchandise. To this end, it is proposed that the color to be determined is recorded together with at least one reference color. The recorded data is read. The recorded data of at least a portion of the reference color is compared with stored comparison values of the reference colors. The color to be determined is automatically determined by evaluating at least a portion of the recorded data of the color to be recorded and of at least a portion of the difference values determined in the comparison between read-in data and stored comparison values.
