  • Patent number: 11114275
Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for acquiring electron backscatter diffraction patterns. In one example, a first scan is performed by directing a charged particle beam towards multiple impact points within a ROI and detecting particles scattered from the multiple impact points. A signal quality of each impact point of the multiple impact points is calculated based on the detected particles. A signal quality of the ROI is calculated based on the signal quality of each impact point. Responsive to the signal quality of the ROI lower than a threshold signal quality, a second scan of the ROI is performed. A structural image of the sample may be formed based on detected particles from both the first scan and the second scan.

  • Patent number: 10938252
Abstract: A wireless power transmitting device transmits wireless power signals to a wireless power receiving device. To detect foreign objects, the wireless power transmitting device has an array of temperature sensors. The array of temperature sensors may include temperature sensor components such as temperature sensitive thin-film resistors or other temperature sensitive components. A temperature sensor may have thin-film resistors formed on opposing sides of a substrate. The thin-film resistors may be formed from meandered metal traces to reduce eddy current formation during operation of the wireless power transmitting device. Signal paths coupling control circuitry on the wireless power transmitting device to the array of temperature sensors may be configured to extend along columns of the temperature sensors without running along each row of the temperature sensors, thereby reducing eddy currents from loops of signal routing lines.

  • Publication number: 20200361483
Abstract: Systems and methods for triggering and issuing safety warnings, including a risk-assessment system that collects movement data pertaining to each of a plurality of subsystems including one or more slow-moving subsystems (SMSSs) and/or one or more fast-moving subsystems (FMSSs). The risk-assessment system identifies, based at least in part on the collected movement data, an instance in which each of a set of warning-triggering conditions is true. The set includes (i) that a likelihood of a collision occurring among an identified subset of the plurality of subsystems is greater than a collision-probability threshold and (ii) that at least one of the subsystems in the identified subset has at least one current movement anomaly. In response to identifying the instance, the risk-assessment system issues at least one warning to at least one of the subsystems in the identified subset.

  • Patent number: 10788174
Abstract: A method producing a dynamic single dimensional output image from a two dimensional image is disclosed. A camera captures a digital image. In the method, each row of pixels of the input image may be read progressively to generate lighting instructions corresponding to each row. The instructions are sent to e.g. programmable LEDs. The process continues with a first row of pixels from the input image being processed first, followed by processing of a subsequent row of pixels of the input image. Upon processing of the second row of pixels, LEDs of the LED strip are illuminated correspondingly. This process continues iteratively until the final row of pixels of the input image. If the imaged object varies visually from one side to another or from top down, the LEDs illuminated by processing of each row of pixels will vary, thereby generating a dynamic image.

  • Patent number: 10658878
Abstract: A wireless power transmitting device transmits wireless power signals to a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power receiving device has a rectifier and a wireless power receiving coil that receives wireless power signals. The wireless power transmitting device uses a layer of coils to transmit the wireless power signals. A dielectric layer in the wireless power transmitting device defines a charging surface that receives the wireless power receiving device. A layer of temperature sensors is interposed between the layer of coils and the dielectric layer. Control circuitry in the wireless power transmitting device uses temperature information from the temperature sensors to determine whether a foreign object such as a coin is present on the charging surface.

  • Publication number: 20200009485
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining whether an authorized or genuine filter element is installed in a filtration system are described. The authorized filter determination may be based on radio frequency identification (“RFID”) technology. RFID readers with antennas in the monitored filter systems read the RFID tag information from the installed filter elements and feed any detected information into the filter monitoring system. The filter monitoring system or a remote diagnostic system analyzes the returned data (or absence thereof) to determine if a genuine (i.e., authorized, OEM approved, etc.) filter element is installed or not.

  • Patent number: 10519617
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a sand-boil filter includes a hollow, conical, water-porous structure made of a mesh material having spaced mesh holes. The filter is inserted narrow-end down into a sand boil to allow water to flow from the ground through the mesh material and out the top of the sand boil, while blocking solid matter larger than the mesh holes from passing through the mesh material. In some implementations, the filter is filled with gravel that holds the filter in place while allowing water to flow out of the sand boil. Such filters prevent sand boils from growing while relieving the underground hydrostatic pressure that created the sand boil in the first place and inhibiting subterranean erosion that can cause failure of a nearby levee. The conical shape provides relatively large surface area that inhibits clogging and allows each filter to be used for a range of different sand-boil sizes.
