  • Publication number: 20140336943
Abstract: Various embodiments provide interfaces to access genomic testing information and incorporate it into daily physician practice. In some embodiments, presentation of genomic alteration data is simplified and/or coupled with contextual applications. Volumes of genomic alterations and associated information (e.g., journal articles, clinical trial information, therapies, etc.) are analyzed and synthesized into actionable information items viewable on an alteration system. According to one embodiment, the system can be configured to focus practitioners on discrete portions of the alteration information on which they can act. According to other aspects, curated information is provided on the system to enable practitioners to make informed decisions regarding the implications of the presence of specific genomic alterations.

  • Patent number: 8863652
Abstract: Cooking apparatus having first and second platens with product recognition. A positioning mechanism moves the second platen toward the first. A detector senses the second platen making contact with a food product disposed on the first platen and provides a signal. A controller uses the signal to measure the travel distance of the second platen. The product thickness is a function of the travel distance, which is used to select a cooking procedure for the food product. The controller then executes the selected cooking procedure to cook the food product. The detector can include a micro switch, proximity sensor, touch sensor, strain sensor, thermal sensor, optical sensor, sonar sensor or positioning load change sensor.

  • Publication number: 20140270115
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, a communications device is described to include novel software for aggregating voice and other messages from various communications media and presenting the user with a display of same, ordered by medium, date of receipt, source etc. The software also comprises a user-friendly man-machine interface for forwarding the messages from one medium to another, including making such messages available to members of social websites. In a second aspect of the invention, a server computer is described, including software to receive, organize and store said messages in digital form, with the participation of the user's communication device in one mode and automatically without the participation of the user's device in another mode. The server comprises software that generates links to selected stored messages that the user can post on the Web.

  • Patent number: 8837788
Abstract: A method and apparatus allow an individual to disrupt recognition of facial characteristics of the individual by a facial recognition system. This is accomplished by providing an object which is worn adjacent the face of the individual. At least one infrared radiation emitter is fixed to the object which emits mostly or totally infrared radiation. The infrared radiation emitter is adjacent the face of the individual and directed at least one of onto the face or forward of the face of the user at all times, and hence as the face of the individual is viewed by the camera of the facial recognition system. As a result, an image of the face obtained by the facial recognition system is substantially different from an image which would have been obtained were the infrared radiation not so emitted, so that determination of facial characteristics by the facial recognition system is disrupted.

  • Patent number: 8795507
Abstract: An apparatus and method for smelting has a smelting pot for containing electrolyte, alumina and a layer of liquid aluminum. A wall in the form of one or more TiB2 or alumina plates extends from the bottom of the pot to a height exceeding the height of the liquid aluminum layer formed in the bottom of the smelting pot during smelting. The wall partitions the bottom of the pot and impedes movement of the aluminum under the influence of MHD forces, diminishing the maximum crest height of waves in the aluminum and allowing a reduction in the ACD to reduce electrical resistance and power consumption. The wall may equal or exceed the height of the anode and may, when conductive, act as a cathode, drawing a horizontal current. The wall may be composed of alumina, e.g., in the form of blocks, undergoing electrolytic reduction and being replaced periodically.

  • Patent number: 8783850
Abstract: Apparatus for drying media in a printer includes first and second successive printing stations with a first rotatable member that contacts the wet side of the media between them. Each prints on one side of the media. A media-path extender between the first printing station and the first rotatable member includes a dry-side rotatable member and a wet-side rotatable member around which the media path passes in that order. An extension media path is defined from the first printing station past the dry-side member, the wet-side member, and the first rotatable member, in that order, to the second printing station. The printer selectively transports the media either along a bypass media path or along the extension media path. The wet-side member is farther past the first printing station than is the first rotatable member.

  • Patent number: 8783017
Abstract: An exhaust aftertreatment process including providing a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst disposed in an exhaust stream of an internal combustion engine; determining that a temperature of the exhaust stream is not within an NH3 based SCR range; and providing an amount of unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) to the SCR catalyst in response to the temperature of the exhaust stream not being within an NH3 based SCR range.

  • Publication number: 20140201623
Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods for determining style attributes of a web page are disclosed. More specifically, in one embodiment, an indication of a document corresponding to a web page may be received and one or more style attributes associated with the web page determined. To determine these style attributes, a document object model (DOM) may be produced based on the document corresponding to the web page and the analyzed DOM. Information indicative of the one or more style attributes can then be generated.

  • Publication number: 20140018722
Abstract: An apparatus is positioned in a hollow viscus organ and functions as a template for creating a lumen of a desired shape and size in the organ from the tissue of the organ. The apparatus is comprised of an elongate, flexible tube having opposite proximal and distal ends. The tube has several lumens or pathways that extend through the interior of the tube between the proximal and distal ends of the tube. A directional, steerable feature extends through one of the lumens of the tube. An anchor feature is provided at the tube distal end and is manually operable from the tube proximal end. An exterior surface dimension adjustable feature is provided adjacent the tube distal end.

  • Publication number: 20130333353
Abstract: A method for controlling aftertreatment regeneration for a system having a hybrid powertrain is described. The method includes determining that an engine aftertreatment regeneration is indicated when a regeneration request index exceeds a first threshold. The method includes determining an acceptable battery usage amount based on a current battery state of charge (SOC) and a minimum battery SOC. The method further includes determining a battery usage amount for an engine aftertreatment regeneration operation. The method includes initiating an engine aftertreatment regeneration when the battery usage amount is less than or equal to the acceptable battery usage amount.
