  • Patent number: 9071723
Abstract: An invention for measuring, maintaining and correcting synchronization between signals which suffer varying relative delays during transmission and/or storage is shown. The present invention teaches measuring the relative delay between a plurality of signals which have suffered differing delays due to transmission, storage or other processing. The preferred embodiment of the invention includes the use of a marker which is generated in response to a second signal and combined with a first signal in a manner which ensures that the marker will not be lost in the expected processing of the first signal. Subsequently a first delayed marker is generated in response to the marker associated with or recovered from the first signal, and a second delayed marker is generated from the second signal. The first delayed marker and second delayed marker are compared to determine a measure of the relative timing or delay between said first signal and said second signal at said subsequent time.

  • Publication number: 20140347973
Abstract: A group of tourists traveling, for example, in a foreign land needs to be sure that no-one becomes lost. Embodiments of the present invention take advantage of mobile wireless terminals colloquially known as “smartphones” to quickly identify any members of a tour group that stray from the group, and to help them rejoin the group. Also, with the assistance of a Central Command Center, appropriate authorities such as a tour leader or relatives can be automatically notified, and search operations initiated if needed.

  • Publication number: 20140246183
Abstract: An apparatus includes a first flow panel and a second flow panel. The first flow panel includes a first flow portion and a second flow portion. The first flow portion defines a flow passageway within which a gas can flow in a first direction. The second flow portion defines a set of microchannels in fluid communication with the flow passageway and within which the gas can flow in a second direction, where the second direction is nonparallel to the first direction. The first flow panel is coupled to the second flow panel to define a heat transfer passageway within which a heat transfer medium can be conveyed in a third direction, where the third direction is opposite the first direction. In such embodiments, the heat transfer passageway is fluidically isolated from the flow passageway and the set of microchannels by a thermally conductive side wall.

  • Patent number: 8820272
Abstract: A cooling system for an engine includes a pump driven by the engine and configured to circulate coolant through the engine. The cooling system also includes a heat exchanger configured to receive coolant from the engine and to reduce a temperature of the coolant. The cooling system further includes a thermostat fluidly connected to the engine and the heat exchanger. The thermostat is configured to selectively direct coolant from the engine to the heat exchanger when a temperature of the coolant is greater than a temperature threshold of the thermostat. The thermostat is also configured to substantially block coolant from passing to the heat exchanger when the temperature of the coolant is less than or equal to the temperature threshold. The cooling system also includes a valve fluidly connected to the engine and the heat exchanger, and connected in parallel with the thermostat.

  • Publication number: 20140136537
Abstract: A computing system determines incremental values associated with a plurality of clustering solutions. Each of the clustering solutions groups stores of a retailer into clusters in a different way. For each clustering solution in the plurality of clustering solutions, the incremental value associated with the clustering solution indicates a difference between an estimated revenue associated with the clustering solution and revenue associated with a baseline clustering solution. The computing system then determines, based on the incremental values associated with the plurality of clustering solutions, the appropriate number of clusters. The clustering solutions that group the stores into more or fewer clusters than the appropriate number of clusters tend to be associated with incremental values that are the same or lower than the clustering solutions that group the stores into the appropriate number of clusters.

  • Publication number: 20140122137
Abstract: Customer data is retrieved that includes customer transactions of a retailer for a first time period and a second time period prior to the first time period. Each customer transaction may be associated with an identified customer. Customer transactions that occurred during the second time period and that are associated with an identified customer that was identified after the second time period are removed from the customer data. For each identified customer, a customer identification weighting factor is determined based on a customer identification likelihood. A total number of customer transactions associated with the identified customer is multiplied by the identification weighting factor to determine a weighted total number of customer transactions for the identified customer. The weighted total number of customer transactions for the identified customer is associated with the identified customer in the customer data. A report including a representation of the customer data is output.

  • Patent number: 8556303
Abstract: An apparatus secures a cover onto a housing of a portable electronic device. The apparatus has a first latch that is pivotally connected to the cover by a first hinge, so that in a first rotational position, the first latch contacts a first catch on the housing and in a second rotational position, the first latch is remote from the first catch. A second latch assembly has a second latch that is pivotally connected to the cover by a second hinge, so that in one rotational position, the second latch contacts a second catch on the housing and in another rotational position, the second latch is remote from the second catch. By squeezing the first and second latches between two fingers, a user is able to disengage those latches from the catches and remove the cover from the housing.

  • Patent number: 8483771
Abstract: An actuator assembly for use in an electronic device is provided. The actuator assembly includes a support tray formed of a conductive metal and defining an aperture extending through the support tray. A seat surrounds the aperture and supports an actuator. The actuator includes a piezoelectric element adhered to a metal substrate larger than the piezoelectric element. The metal substrate bends when the piezoelectric element contracts and expands in response to changes in the charge of the piezoelectric element. An insulator is disposed between the metal substrate and the support tray which electrically insulates the substrate from the metal substrate.
