  • Publication number: 20030062601
Abstract: Space-efficient packaging of microelectronic devices permits greater functionality per unit PC board surface area. In certain embodiments, packages having leads of a reverse gull wing shape reduce peripheral footprint area occupied by the leads, thereby permitting maximum space in the package footprint to be allocated to the package body and to the enclosed die. Embodiments of packages in accordance with the present invention may also reduce the package vertical profile by featuring recesses for receiving lead feet ends, thereby reducing clearance between the package bottom and the PC board. Providing a linear lead foot underlying the package and slightly inclined relative to the PC board further reduces vertical package profile by eliminating additional clearance associated with radiuses of curvature of J-shaped leads.

  • Patent number: 4853563
Abstract: A switch interface circuit provides control voltages to the gate of a power MOSFET while protecting the power MOSFET from breakdown caused by transient signals and over-voltage. In one embodiment, a large JFET acts as gate-source shunt and a small JFET serves as a current source to turn the power MOSFET off when the turn-on current is removed. The JFET gate-drain and gate-source breakdown provides a voltage limitation to protect the MOSFET from gate overvoltage. Alternatively, Zener diodes and MOS transistors are used in lieu of the JFET for shorting the power MOSFET gate to source during turn-off and limiting its gate to source voltage during turn-on.

  • Patent number: 4841166
Abstract: A novel closed loop feedback circuit is provided which senses the shoot-through current of a power switching device driving an inductive load. If excessive shoot-through current is sensed, the closed loop causes a reduction of the gate drive to the Power MOSFET contained in the power switching circuit, thereby slowing its turn on time, and in turn reducing the shoot-through current.
