  • Publication number: 20140126375
Abstract: One aspect provides a method of controlling an information flow in a data transmission system. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving a plurality of data packets and generating a modified information flow. Data packets in the modified information flow are spaced with a variable spacing whilst the order of the data packets is maintained. The variable spacing between the data packets is exponentially distributed.

  • Patent number: 8662192
Abstract: A fire and explosion suppression system comprises a source (5) of high pressure water which is fed to a misting nozzle (13) at one input of a mixing unit (6), and a source (14) of high pressure inert gas, such as nitrogen, which is fed along a pipe (20) to another input of the mixing unit (6). Inside the mixing unit (6), water mist, in the form of an atomized mist of very small droplet size is mixed with the pressurized gas and exits the mixing unit (6) at high pressure and high velocity along a pipe (22) and is thence discharged through spreaders (26, 28). The source (5) of the water is pressurized by a feed (30) from the source of pressurized inert gas. The mass flow rate of the water will therefore reduce as the pressure of the gas decays. This tends to maintain the ratio of the mass flow rate of the water to the mass flow rate of the gas constant. This is found to produce and maintain an advantageous distribution of droplet size in the discharged unit.

  • Publication number: 20120288412
Abstract: A reformer system (11) having a hydrodesulfurizer (12) provides desulfurized natural gas feedstock to a catalytic steam reformer (16), the outflow of which is treated by a water gas shift reactor (20) and optionally a preferential CO oxidizer (58) to provide reformate gas (28, 28a) having high hydrogen and moderate carbon dioxide content. To avoid damage to the hydrodesulfurizer from overheating, any deleterious hydrogen reactants, such as the oxygen in peak shave gas or olefins, in the non-desulfurized natural gas feedstock (35) are reacted (38) with hydrogen (28, 28a; 71) to convert them to alkanes (e.g., ethylene and propylene to ethane and propane) and to convert oxygen to water in a catalytic reactor (38) having no sulfide sorbent, and cooled (46), below a temperature which would damage the reactor, by evaporative cooling with pressurized hot water (42). Hydrogen for the desulfurizer and the hydrogen reactions may be provided as recycle reformate (28, 28a) or from a mini-CPO (67), or from other sources.

  • Publication number: 20110271926
Abstract: Gasoline fuel formulation having a laminar burning velocity SL which is equal to or below that of isooctane at a pressure of 1 bar, a temperature of 300 K and stoichiometric air/fuel mixture strength. The formulation can be used to reduce pre-ignition in a turbocharged spark ignition engine, in particular when operating with an inlet pressure above 1.5 bar absolute. The formulation can thus also be used to reduce engine damage. The invention also provides a method of preparing a gasoline fuel, by mixing gasoline fuel components to achieve a laminar burning velocity SL for the resultant mixture which is equal to or below that of isooctane at a pressure of 1 bar, a temperature of 300 K and stoichiometric air/fuel mixture strength. It further provides a method for selecting a gasoline fuel for use in a turbocharged spark ignition engine, based on its laminar burning velocity SL.

  • Patent number: 7970888
Abstract: A method of allocating a priority level in an information flow in a data transmission system including receiving a plurality of data packets and allocating a priority level to each data packet is provided with a controller employing such method. The priority level may be determined in accordance with determining a class of loss of the data packet and a class of service for the data packet. The priority level is also a function of the current load of the information flow. It has been established that the choice for each degree of freedom should preferably be made independently and concurrently. The invention, therefore, provides a method for performing such a composite choice.
