  • Publication number: 20110085450
Abstract: A network analysis system invokes an application specific, or source-destination specific, path discovery process. The application specific path discovery process determines the path(s) used by the application, collects performance data from the nodes along the path, and communicates this performance data to the network analysis system for subsequent performance analysis. The system may also maintain a database of prior network configurations to facilitate the identification of nodes that are off the path that may affect the current performance of the application. The system may also be specifically controlled so as to identify the path between any pair of specified nodes, and to optionally collect performance data associated with the path.

  • Patent number: 7894369
Abstract: The physical connection corresponding to IP tunnels in a network are found by tracing through the device configuration and routing tables at the routers in the network to determine the outbound interface associated with each tunnel endpoint, and then inferring a likely return interface associated with the opposite tunnel endpoint. Depending upon the particular configurations, a variety of tests can be applied to validate the inference. Patricia trees are preferably used to store and process the configuration data for efficient tracing through the routing tables at each router.

  • Patent number: 7808991
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting data in a network-based data communication system includes a first network node comprising a first port couplable to at least a second network node for transferring data in a first format between the first and second network nodes. The first network node further includes a processor operatively coupled to the first port, the processor being configurable to receive one or more frames of data and/or transmit one or more frames of data, the frames of data having an overhead processing portion that is otherwise standard. The processor uses only a subset of the overhead processing portion and is configured such that utilizing only the subset of the overhead processing portion of the one or more data frames enables one or more functional blocks to be eliminated from the first network node, the one or more functional blocks being otherwise required for implementing substantially all of the overhead processing portion of the one or more data frames.

  • Patent number: 7801786
Abstract: Disclosed are novel tangible financial instruments that allow entities to effectively and efficiently hedge the highly volatile fluctuations associated with predicting healthcare costs and revenues by converting healthcare services into commodities and constructing a financial derivative and a security with an underlying value based on the commodity. The financial instruments create a more efficient marketplace for the exchange of healthcare related products and services.

  • Patent number: 7792065
Abstract: Embodiments include a method directed to a first proxy detecting that a secure data connection between a first and second client should be created on a secure data connection setup path. A first secure connection can be established with the first client. If a second proxy can reach the second client and the second proxy supports secure data connection setup paths, a second secure connection can be established with the second proxy causing the second proxy to establish a third secure connection with the second client. A session key indicating the secure data connection setup path can be received from the second client via the second proxy and forwarded to the first client. A request and session key can be received from the first client to initiate the secure data connection. The request is forwarded to the second client via the first and second proxies based on the session key.

  • Publication number: 20100153446
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments may provide a computer implemented system and method that may integrate both sales and service functions of a customer service representative on a desktop user interface. A comprehensive set of customer service goals derived from a large sample of actual customer calls may be empirically identified. Desired customer sales goals may be integrated into the comprehensive list of service goals. The integrated set of service and sales goals may be presented in a user interface. A recommendation engine, to present in highlighted form, which subset of goals a customer service representative should pursue with a given customer, when to pursue them, and for how long, may be incorporated. A delineation of a step-by-step process (using “wizards” or “assistants”) may be provided for each goal.

  • Publication number: 20100121680
Abstract: A method and system to identify suitable installation sites for alternative fuel stations. The system uses geocoded data sets and other data pertaining to a particular geographic market to generate three models: (1) the system generates a market capacity model that indicates the total number of stations that could be sustained by the present and/or projected consumer demand for alternative fuel within the market; (2) the system generates a hotspot model that indicates the geographic variation of estimated demand for alternative fuel within the market; and (3) the system generates a trade area model that indicates which locations within the market are quickly accessible by a sufficiently high number of alternative fuel consumers. When combined, these three models permit a user of the system to identify and analyze those locations within the market that are most suitable as alternative fuel station sites.

  • Publication number: 20100103869
Abstract: A mobile telephony network comprises base stations operating according to a predetermined standard. A transfer node allows the transfer of data from a first base station to a second base station in the mobile telephone network. Data is sent from the first base station to a data receiver of the data transfer node via a first wireless communications channel complying with the said standard. The received data is transferred via an interface within the transfer node to a data sender of the data transfer node. The data sender sends the transferred data to the second base station via a second wireless communications channel complying with the said standard. The interface within the transfer node does not comply with the operating standard because it transfers data only within the node. Data may be sent from the second base station to the first base station via the node in similar manner.

  • Patent number: 7702353
Abstract: Allocate power so as to maximise the throughput of each user of a multi-user MIMO group, with the constraint that over time all users in the group have equal throughput. This differs from equal capacity per slot in that each user may be assigned multiple slots as well as unequal power. This is illustrated in FIG. 4. Total throughput is maximised on any given slot for any two users. Power is shared between the spatial modes such that the total number of slots used by the two users is minimised. The membership of the MIMO group may change between slots and thus throughput is not necessarily equalised on a slot by slot basis.

  • Publication number: 20100074105
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide an implementation for a multi-hop wireless backhaul network. These embodiments can advantageously be deployed in dense urban areas and/or co-located with wireless access nodes, such as base-stations of a cellular wireless communication system. Preferably wireless links between constituent network nodes are set-up hierarchically. A basic result of this is that peer-to-peer (child-to-child) communication is generally prohibited and circuits are forced to conform to a topology. The multi-hop wireless backhaul network may be used to carry delay sensitive, high-density last mile circuit traffic over Non-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) broadband radio links. Moreover, some embodiments of the invention provide a method of path-healing for re-routing of circuit traffic from circuits that have experienced catastrophic failures.

  • Patent number: 7679864
Abstract: A servo-controlled, head actuator design that has low profile characteristics in both the height and width dimensions. The low height allows the actuator to fit into a half-high tape drive form factor. Additionally, in some implementations, the actuator comprises a smaller, concentrated moving mass coupled with a flexure construction having a narrowed width with added ribs for torsional stiffness. These aspects of the actuator provide a higher second mode of vibration compared to the flexure designs of the prior art. The actuator includes a coarse actuator assembly for larger movements of the head, and a fine actuator, including a Voice coil motor, responsive to analysis of servo signals. In some embodiments, the voice coil motor of the fine actuator and the coarse actuator shafts are in line. Since the centerlines of the shafts are in-line with the voice coil motor, the resonance response of the shaft spring-mass system is reduced.
