Abstract: The invention provides a new bioorthogonal deprotection method for preparing heterocyclic compounds by bond cleavage using palladium. The methods have general application in the field of biological synthetic chemistry. Compounds, such as prodrugs, which are useful in such methods are also provided.

Abstract: In various implementations, a first computing device (such as cloud-based server) transmits instructions to a second computing device (such as a notebook computer, tablet computer, or smartphone). The instructions are usable by the second computing device to render at least a first portion of the document on a display. The first computing device receives an asset identifier and a user comment from the second computing device. The asset identifier uniquely identifies a discrete subset of user content within the document (such as particular paragraph, a table, or a cell within a table). The first computing device stores the comment (e.g., in a cloud-based database) in a data entity that is separate from a data entity in which the user content identified by the asset identifier is stored and associates the comment with the asset using the asset identifier.

Abstract: A system for registering an input-limited device such as a media player with a captive access point that requires completion of a portal web page prior to allowing client devices access to a network such as the Internet. Such captive access points are commonly found in hotels, and may be used for both freely provided public WiFi and for connections that require providing payment. For registration, the input-limited device operates as a proxy, relaying communications with the captive access point back-and-forth to a second device with rich user-input capabilities via an independent communications channel. Registration information is provided to the access point as though it originated with the media player, allowing the media player to acquire access to the network.

The disclosed system and method (1) simplifies the process for viewers to provide viewer-authored media to broadcasters, while minimizing the data transmission requirements between portable viewer devices and the broadcaster, (2) allows advance approval for the broadcasters to use that viewer-generated content to generate and disseminate viewer-authored-content and (3) provides for management of viewer-generated content (4) integrates with social networks that can be used to at least preliminarily assess the popularity and suitability of the viewer-generated content for broadcast to other viewers.

An example waist measuring belt is made up of a belt buckle frame with attachments for a belt strap. The belt further includes a position measuring module coupled to the belt buckle frame that measures an attachment position of a second end of the belt strap to the belt buckle frame. The belt also includes a tension measuring module coupled to the belt buckle frame that measures a tension through the belt buckle frame and the belt strap. A memory and a wireless communication module attached to the belt may be used to store measurements and communicate with a mobile device or server. In various embodiments, estimated user waist sizes over time using measured values and belt-specific data may be used to estimate a user's waist size and generate a waist size history.

Abstract: A rivet device for securing compressible media is provided herein. The device comprises a rivet with head and shaft portions and a receiving unit. The rivet and the receiving unit are adapted for cooperative reversible rotational engagement. The rivet shaft is inserted into and passes through an aperture in one or more media and engages with the receiving unit on a surface of the media opposite the rivet head portion. Relative rotation in either direction between the rivet and the receiving unit directs reversible engagement of the rivet device. When the rivet device is engaged, the rivet head portion and the receiving unit cooperatively resist tension from the secured media. The rivet shaft is constructed to prevent buckling under pressure or bending under shear from the secured media. A costume assembly kit employing the rivet device to fasten substantially planar costume panels to produce a three-dimensional costume is also provided.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to systems and methods for automated review of genomic data to identify genetic features indicative of a particular disease or condition. The system accesses genomic data of a first cohort of individuals and identifies one or more genes each of which is differentially expressed by individuals in a group having the disease or condition compared with a control group. The system accesses single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data of a second cohort of individuals different from the first cohort and identifies SNPs associated with the disease or condition. The system determines an intersection between the set of identified genes and the SNPs associated with the disease or condition to identify one or more genes that are downregulated due to the disease or condition. Related treatment methods are also included.
