Abstract: The microtome (10) includes a base (12) having a tank (14) filled with a bath (16) mounted thereon. A feeding mechanism (20) for feeding select amounts of specimen to be sectioned protrudes through the base (12) into the bath (16). A cutting mechanism (40) spans the tank (14) and includes a reciprocating carriage (42) above the feeding mechanism (20). The carriage (42) is disposed at an angle with respect to the direction of reciprocation and includes a vibrating blade (62) hanging down from the carriage (42). The combined motion of the carriage (42) and the vibrating blade (62) slices samples from the specimen extruded by the feeding mechanism (20), which permits consistent and uniformly thick samples with minimal surface irregularities, especially for large specimens. A controlling mechanism (80) coordinates operation of the feeding mechanism (20) and the cutting mechanism(40).

Abstract: A data structure for a flash memory and data reading/writing method thereof are disclosed. A 512 bytes data and a redundant code derived from the data encoded with a 6-bit error correcting code scheme are stored in a first sector and a second sector with sequential address in a block of the flash memory respectively. A logic block address information of this block is divided into two parts that are stored in the first sector and the second sector respectively.

Abstract: The method and device for cutting fresh tissue slices utilizes a vibrating microtome. The vibrating microtome uses a cutting blade that vibrates in a horizontal direction. The microtome has a base, a specimen holder attached to the base, and a diagonal slide carriage and support arm that are supported on the base for movement diagonally with respect to the specimen holder. A vibrating blade support is located on the support arm and moves horizontally with respect to the specimen holder. A cutting blade is mounted on the vibrating blade support and moves in a compound diagonal and vibrating motion with respect to the specimen holder.

Abstract: A weld nut includes a main body and a flange. The flange is extended outwardly from the main body and surrounding the main body, and comprises teeth disposed evenly on the periphery thereof. Mis-positioning of the weld nut is avoided when soldering the weld nut to a printed circuit board.

Abstract: A data writing method for flash memory and an error correction encoding/decoding method thereof are disclosed. In an embodiment of the data writing method, a 6-bit ECC scheme using a Reed-Solomon code derived from a Galois Field GF (29) is used to encode a data for generating a redundant which requires smaller storing space. In an embodiment of the error correction encoding/decoding method, an erase checking value corresponding to the status where all the bytes of data area and parameter storing area are “0xff” is provided to improve the security of stored data.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a main body defining an opening, and a key mechanism secured in the opening. The key mechanism includes a fixing mechanism, a circuit board and a key. The fixing mechanism includes a tab and a support. The tab protrudes from a sidewall of the opening. The support includes an elastic supporting rib connected to the tab. The circuit board is fixed on the support and includes a switch. The key is rotatably connected to the fixing mechanism actuates the switch to generate an input signal. The supporting rib applies a restoring force to the key.

Abstract: An electronic device includes an upper cover, bottom cover and locking mechanism to connect the upper cover to the bottom cover. The locking mechanism includes a plurality of protrusions formed on an inner surface of the bottom cover, elastic members and a blade. The blade is slidably mounted on the upper cover and capable of being attracted by an external magnetic member. The blade is formed with hooks. Each protrusion defines a notch. The hooks are urged by the elastic members to be received in the notch and connect the upper cover to the bottom cover. The hooks are capable of moving out of the notches by the force of the external magnetic member, allowing the upper cover to detach from the bottom cover. A locking mechanism configured for connecting an upper cover to a bottom cover is also provided.

Abstract: Fresh tissue slices can be cut from tissue specimens embedded in a low gel point agarose by the use of a vibrating, sliding-blade microtome. The microtome has a blade which vibrates in a generally horizontal direction and which is supported for movement in a generally diagonal, sliding direction with respect to the tissue specimen. The compound vibrating and sliding motion of the cutting blade of the microtome is very effective in cutting fresh tissue slices that have a slice viability, measured as a ratio of live to dead cells, which is much better than that which has been obtained using conventional vibrating microtomes.
