  • Publication number: 20200346719
Abstract: A buoy (10) comprising a central column (12), an outer frame (14) attached to the central column with buoyancy which may be provided by the outer frame and/or by attached buoyancy units (16). The central column is negatively buoyant and is normally open at one end to allow water to flow in, and create an oscillating water column caused by waves. This water column dampens the effect of wave or other forces on the buoy, thus providing a more stable foundation for a wind powered generator. A further generator may be provided to extract energy from the oscillating water column. The buoy is normally attached to an anchor by one or more tension leg tethers which maintains the buoyancy below the surface of the water which has also be found to increase stability. The anchor may be a modular gravity base anchor.

  • Patent number: 10824350
Abstract: A data processing apparatus and method serve to manage access permission checking in respect of contingent memory access operations (the access permission failure of which does not alter program flow) in dependence of a contingent-access permission checking disable flag. If the contingent access disable flag has a first value, then this disables memory permission circuitry e.g. a walk state machine 22, from performing a check as to whether or not the memory access circuitry is permitted to perform a requested memory access. Non-contingent memory accesses are able to utilise the memory permission circuitry irrespective of the value of the contingent-access permission checking disable flag.

  • Patent number: 10795675
Abstract: An apparatus 2 has instruction fusing circuitry 50 for fusing two or more instructions fetched from a data store to generate a fused instruction to be processed by processing circuitry 14. A move prefix instruction is provided which indicates to the instruction fusing circuitry 50 that the move prefix instruction can be fused with an immediately following data processing instruction without needing to compare registers specified by the move prefix instruction and the immediately following instruction. This enables the instruction fusing circuitry 50 to be implemented with reduced hardware and energy cost.

  • Patent number: 10776124
Abstract: Processing circuitry supports a first type of vector arithmetic instruction specifying at least a first input vector. When at least one exceptional condition is detected for an arithmetic operation performed for a first active data element of the first input vector in a predetermined sequence, the processing circuitry performs at least one response action. When the at least one exceptional condition is detected for a given active data element other than the first active data element in the predetermined sequence, the processing circuitry suppresses the at least one response action and stores elements identifying information identifying which data element is the given active data element which triggered the exceptional condition. This can be useful for reducing the amount of hardware resource for tracking the occurrence of the exceptional conditions and/or supporting speculative execution of vector instructions.

  • Publication number: 20200280792
Abstract: Disclosed herein are electronic devices having a deformable surfaces through which a user can provide inputs to the device by applying a force such as a pinch or a squeeze. A particular embodiment is an earpiece with the deformable surface part of an elongate section extending from an earbud. The deformable surface includes an incompressible hyperelastic material and a pressure sensor. The pressure sensor includes a pressure sensing element and a void defined between the pressure sensing element and the incompressible hyperelastic material. An applied force is transferred by the incompressible hyperelastic material to compress the void and change an internal pressure thereof. The changed pressure is detected by the pressure sensor, and can result in changed operation of the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20200254749
Abstract: The invention pertains to a photosensitive element, particularly a photopolymerizable printing form precursor; a method of preparing the photosensitive element to form a printing form for use in relief printing; and, a process of making the photosensitive element. The printing form precursor includes a layer of a photosensitive composition, a digital layer that is adjacent to a side of the photosensitive layer, and a cell pattern layer that is disposed between the photosensitive layer and the digital layer. The cell pattern layer includes a plurality of features in which each feature an area between 5 to 750 square microns and is composed of an ink that is opaque to actinic radiation and transparent to infrared radiation. Since the cell pattern layer is integral with the printing form precursor, digital imaging can occur rapidly with relatively low resolution optics to form a mask without needing to also form a microcell pattern of the digital layer.
