  • Patent number: 7689526
Abstract: A knowledge base is first characterized by an association-grounded semantics collapsed language. In response to the receipt of a query of the knowledge base, the collapsed language is used to determine whether there is an indication that the knowledge base contains knowledge requested in the query. Thereafter, the collapsed language can be used to carry out a full search for the knowledge much more efficiently than would otherwise be possible. Related methods, apparatus, and articles are also described.

  • Patent number: 7419239
Abstract: An inkjet printer in which a printhead defines an elongate array of orifices from which jets of ink are projected into a space within which substrates to be printed are presented. An air curtain generator fixed in position relative to the printhead extends along one side only of the array of orifices so as to direct a curtain of air across the array a of orifices and across an open portion of the printhead on the side of the array of orifices remote from the air curtain generator. The air curtain cleans the printhead. A pressure pulse may be applied to ink within the printhead sufficient to discharge ink form each orifice when not in use to project ink. The pressure pulse has a relatively rapidly rising leading edge and a relatively slowly falling edge. An ink reservoir is coupled to the printhead for supplying ink to the orifices.

  • Patent number: 7374359
Abstract: An expandable and contractible stylus for interfacing with a touchscreen of an electronic device. The expandable and contractible feature allows for a stylus that contracts to fit into a stylus holder in a small handheld device and expands to facilitate its removal from a device and to fit more comfortably in a user's hand. It holds either its expanded or contracted position for any orientation in space. An expandable and contractible stylus may facilitate the user's experience and thus provide an advantage over other conventional styluses.

  • Publication number: 20070295936
Abstract: Disclosed is a stabilized chlorine dioxide generating composition containing an oxy-chlorine salt, an acid source, optionally a free halogen source, and an endothermic agent. The endothermic agent neutralizes heat evolved by exothermic reaction of the oxy-chlorine salt by the endothermic reaction of the endothermic agent. Since the endothermic reaction eliminates and/or mitigates propagation of the exothermic reaction of the oxy-chlorine salt from a localized area through the total mass of the material, the chlorine dioxide generating composition is thereby stabilized during making, storing, or shipping the composition.

  • Publication number: 20060204432
Abstract: Recovering sulfur from a gas stream containing hydrogen sulfide by oxidizing the gas stream to convert the hydrogen sulfide in the gas stream to sulfur oxide, and thus form a sulfur oxide enriched gas stream. The sulfur oxide enriched gas stream is contacted with a solid, sulfation resistant adsorbent bed at relatively low temperatures to extract the sulfur oxides and retain them as sulfur compounds, thus forming a sulfur oxide depleted gas stream. The adsorbent bed is then contacted with an inert or reducing gas stream to reduce the retained sulfur compounds to sulfur and/or sulfur dioxide and thereby form an enriched sulfur and/or sulfur dioxide bearing stream. The elemental sulfur is recovered and/or the sulfur dioxide bearing stream may be recycled to the Claus unit for further conversion.

  • Publication number: 20050132377
Abstract: A data processing system (1) is programmed with objects (2) according to the object-oriented architecture. Each object (2) is for implementing an event, which for financial securities processing is often referred to as a corporate action. An object (2) has a container (3) containing a series of masks (4), all at the same level in a flat structure. Each mask has four binary bit flags, each switching on or off a pre-stored unit (5) of executable code for an asynchronous transaction. Initialisation or modifications of the system involves only processing through a series of decisions and setting mask flags accordingly.

  • Patent number: 6892580
Abstract: A method for determining a rate of rain falling on a surface. As rain falls and strikes the surface, vibrations are generated on the surface. The vibrations are sensed and a vibration signal is generated, the vibration signal being proportional to the vibrations of the surface. The vibration signal includes peaks. The peaks of the vibration signal are determined. The time intervals between the peaks are then determined. Using the time intervals, a number n1 of timer intervals that occur between a first time and a second time are counted. A number n2 of time intervals that occur between the second time and a third time are also counted. The rain rate ? is then determined using an equation that is derived from a point process equation and utilizes n1 and n2.
