  • Patent number: 8902505
Abstract: A light collecting and disseminating apparatus is provided for use in harvesting sunlight from the exterior of a man-made structure, and providing light to the inside of the structure, via an opto-mechanical joint where sunlight would not normally be available. The internal arrangement of the collector allows for improved optical accuracy and performance over prior efforts. The apparatus is also characterized as possessing a low profile so as not to alter the appearance of buildings furnished with the invention. Further, light can be collected from any orientation and redirected through the opto-mechanical joint to a stationary light receiving port independent of the orientation of the collectors.

  • Publication number: 20140323074
Abstract: A method for managing power of a battery powered handheld audio device by receiving an indicia of signal quality for a received continuous-time radio signal. The method compares the indicia of signal quality to a signal threshold. Upon a favorable comparison, enacting a first analog signal conditioning setting. Upon an unfavorable comparison, enacting a second analog signal conditioning setting. The method further provides, upon the favorable comparison, disabling a digital filtering operation, and upon the unfavorable comparison, enabling the digital filtering operation.

  • Patent number: 8869794
Abstract: An aerosolization apparatus comprises a housing defining a chamber having one or more air inlets. The chamber is sized to receive a capsule which contains an aerosolizable pharmaceutical formulation. A puncturing mechanism is provided within the housing and comprising a puncture member. The puncture member comprises a forward end shaped to form a cutting edge that is effective in cutting the wall of the capsule to create an opening into the capsule. The puncture member also comprises a trailing end shaped so that it has a non-cutting surface that does not cut the wall of the capsule when the trailing end is inserted into the opening created by the forward end. An end section is associated with the housing. The end section is sized and shaped to be received in a user's mouth or nose so that the user may inhale through the end section to inhale aerosolized pharmaceutical formulation that has exited the capsule through the opening created in the capsule.

  • Patent number: 8788551
Abstract: Random numbers are generated using entropic properties associated with circuit hardware. Consistent with one method, a switching voltage regulator circuit is used to generate a random number. Data that is responsive to switching states of the switching voltage regulator circuit is generated. A multi-bit random number is then generated from the generated data.

  • Patent number: 8766707
Abstract: Apparatus and method for supplying electrical power to a device. A system on chip (SOC) integrated circuit includes a first region having a processing core and a second region characterized as an always on domain (AOD) power island electrically isolated from the first region and having a power control block. A first power supply module is used to apply power to the first region, and a second power supply module is used to apply power to the second region. The second power supply module includes a main switch between the first power supply module and a host input voltage terminal. The power control block initiates a low power mode by transitioning the main switch to an open state. This causes the first region to receive no electrical power while the second region continuously receives power during the low power mode.

  • Publication number: 20140095488
Abstract: A distributed information network is constructed for gathering information from sites distributed across a globally accessible computer network, i.e., the Internet. The distributed information network preferably includes a root server that stores a list of multiple distributed sites each represented by metadata. A network browser delivers an information search request to the root server, which in response develops a profiled information search request. The information provider of each of the distributed sites stores metadata corresponding to information content that is retrievable in response to the profiled information search request for search results derivable from the information content to which the metadata correspond. A profiled information communication link between the root server and each of the multiple distribution sites enables formation of a path for delivery of the search results to a destination site, from a site or sites represented by the metadata of the profiled information search request.

  • Publication number: 20130281909
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for treating wounds in patients who lack the innate ability to regulate glucose (e.g., diabetic patients). In one aspect of the invention, a method includes positioning an internal bypass device within the duodenum to inhibit contact between chyme passing therethrough and an internal wall of the duodenum and maintaining the internal bypass device within the duodenum for a sufficient period of time to decrease insulin resistance and reduce a blood glucose level in the patient. The internal bypass device increases peripheral blood flow and elevates an immune system response to accelerate healing of the wound.
