  • Patent number: 9058708
Abstract: A utility cart for storage, transport and setup of voting devices into a completely-operational configuration, ready for use, while still on the cart. The utility cart employs a deployable privacy curtain that erects a 360 degree private voting environment around the equipment using the voting equipment. When loaded with a tabulator/ballot box, the cart may be wheeled from storage into a usable position in the precinct, onboard equipment plugged in, the utility cart deployed and privacy curtain erected, and the precinct is then ready for voting traffic. All the loaded equipment is fully protected during transport and restrained against lateral motion, and yet when deployed full access is given to the control panels, doors, etc. Moreover, the particular design maximizes strength and usability, and yet keeps weight to a minimum with a framework that is as light weight as possible.

  • Patent number: 9054910
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide terminal status information by a telecommunication terminal as audio information by generating terminal status information by a telecommunication terminal; establishing a direct connection by a monitor computer to the telecommunication terminal via a direct link to the telecommunication terminal; transmitting the generated terminal status information to the monitor computer by the telecommunication terminal via the direct link; converting the generated terminal status information to audio terminal status information by the monitor computer; and presenting the audio terminal status information to a user of the telecommunication terminal. In addition, the method and apparatus establish a firewall by the telecommunication terminal to prevent the monitor computer from communicating on a network to which the telecommunication terminal is connected whereby the monitor computer is also denied access to other devices connected to the network.

  • Patent number: 8843612
Abstract: Domain Name Service (DNS) requests are used as the reporting vehicle for ensuring that security-related information can be transferred from a network. As one possibility, a central facility for a security provider may maintain a data collection capability that is based upon receiving the DNS requests containing the information being reported. In an email application, if a data block is embedded within or attached to an email message, an algorithm is applied to the data block to generate an indicator that is specifically related to the contents of the data block. As one possibility, the algorithm may generate a hash that provides a “digital fingerprint” having a reasonable likelihood that the hash is unique to the data block. By embedding the hash within a DNS request, the request becomes a report that the data block has been accessed.

  • Patent number: 8818288
Abstract: A new methodology for detecting, localizing, tracking, and counting objects. The method for state/space estimation includes arranging in a space a first pair of radio frequency sensors in a network of nodes. The first pair of radio frequency sensors is calibrated to determine a first fading condition associated with the first pair of radio frequency sensors. A signal strength of at least one signal sent between the first pair of nodes is measured. A first likelihood model is determined based on the first fading condition. A first posterior distribution is estimated based on the signal strength of the at least one signal using the first likelihood model for purposes of determining object information within the space.

  • Publication number: 20140200856
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for device-free motion detection and presence detection within an area of interest. A plurality of nodes, configured to be arranged around the area of interest, form a wireless network. The plurality of nodes transmit wireless signals as radio waves and receive transmitted wireless signals. The received signal strength (RSS) of the transmitted wireless signals between the plurality of nodes are measured and a value is reported. A computing device receives the reported values for the measured RSS and tracks the reported values over time. The computing device processes the reported values using an aggregate disturbance calculation to detect motion and presence within the area of interest. The computing device may notify notification device of a detected disturbance within the area of interest.

  • Publication number: 20140032740
Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting a single invitation to join a communication directed to a multimodal endpoint are provided. More particularly, a communication directed to a multimodal endpoint is delivered to the multimodal endpoint using only a single communication network at a time. A communication server handling an incoming communication directed to the multimodal endpoint first attempts to initiate a communication session using a first, preferred communication network. If the communication is completed or is responded to by the multimodal endpoint using the first network, an attempt to complete the communication using a second network is not initiated. Alternatively, if the first communication network is not available to deliver the communication to the multimodal endpoint, an attempt to complete the communication using the second communication network is initiated.

  • Publication number: 20130240058
Abstract: Disclosed is a basement sewer drain pump housing that draws fluid from a drain and into a fluid housing, whereafter the fluid is discharged from the housing and out of the basement to prevent leakage through the floor drain. The device comprises a pickup tube having a fluid level sensor, which is placed within a sewer main drain or floor drain. The housing comprises an enclosed volume, a suction tube connected to the pickup tube, a suction pump, and a discharge pump. The pump is activated by a switch controlled by the pickup tube fluid sensor, whereby the fluid is drawn into the housing from the drain and discharged through a discharge pipe that terminates outside of the dwelling. The device operates from outlet power or battery power and serves as a basement drain pump device that prevents fluid and sewage backflow during power outages and plumbing blockages.

  • Patent number: 8474834
Abstract: A voter cart capable of supporting a voting terminal in a portable, fully usable, and secure configuration. The cart is generally formed with a pair of opposing side rails joined together in a spaced-apart configuration and mounted on casters, and a voting terminal housing interspaced between the side rails. The voting terminal is seated atop a bottom shelf of the voting terminal housing at waist-level for easy wheelchair voter access thereto. The voting terminal is restrained against lateral and vertical motion, and yet there is full access to the voting terminal's control panels, doors, etc. Moreover, the particular design maximizes strength and usability, and yet keeps weight to a minimum with a framework that is as light weight as possible.

  • Patent number: 8331442
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to systems, methods, and computer program products for optimally allocating a fixed number of bits among a plurality of multi-media data channels. The optimal number of bits is determined by preprocessing each channel to calculate complexity data, and then the complexity data is used to determine the optimal number of bits to assign to each channel. The optimal number of bits may be determined by a closed loop controller in communication with one or more channel encoders, and the multi-media channels may contain video data conforming to the MPEG2 video format.

  • Patent number: 8281369
Abstract: The proposed invention provides a user-friendly way for people to turn a traditional in-progress voice-only telephone call into a multi-media call. This may be accomplished using various technologies that can be provided over the Internet or some other multi-media computing/networking platform. The multi-media aspect of the invention may be used to facilitate the sharing of additional information between the call participants as well as dynamically update security aspects (e.g., encryption keys) associated with call.
