  • Patent number: 10156224
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling a wind turbine based on sensor readings are provided. A signal path between a sensor and a turbine controller can be modified and a secondary controller can be inserted between the turbine controller and the sensor. The secondary controller can receive a signal from the sensor and adjust the signal to an adjusted signal. The adjusted signal can be communicated to the turbine controller which can control operation of the wind turbine based at least in part on the adjusted signal. In this way, the operation of the wind turbine based on various sensor readings can be adjusted to provide for increased energy production without requiring access to computer-readable instructions, such as source code, implemented by the wind turbine controller.

  • Publication number: 20180201386
Abstract: A control system for an in-flight engine restart system of a rotorcraft includes an engine control unit that controls and detects status of an engine. The control system also includes a flight control computer that communicates with the engine control unit, an engine operation control system, and a pilot interface including pilot controls. The engine operation control system includes a processor that initiates a health check of the in-flight engine restart system to determine an in-flight engine restart system status. The engine operation control system processes engine mode of operation commands to establish an engine mode of operation, and delivers commands to aspects of the in-flight engine restart system including the engine control unit based on processing of the engine mode of operation commands. The engine operation control system reports the in-flight engine restart system status and results of the engine mode of operation commands to the flight control computer.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for controlling and/or upgrading aftermarket multivendor wind turbines. The system includes a turbine controller configured to control operations of the wind turbine, a safety device configured to provide a signal indicative of a health status of the safety device, and a secondary controller inserted between the safety device and the turbine controller. The secondary controller is configured to receive the signal from the safety device over a communication interface. As such, if the signal indicates a normal health status, the secondary controller is configured to send the signal to the turbine controller, i.e. maintain normal operation. Alternatively, if the signal indicates a poor health status, the secondary controller is configured to adjust the signal based at least in part on a signal bias to an adjusted signal and to provide the adjusted signal to the turbine controller.

  • Patent number: 10000019
Abstract: An installation assembly and an associated method for forming a bonded join are provided to permit the adhesive attachment of a first workpiece, such as a patch, to a portion of a second workpiece. The installation assembly and the associated method provide for at least partial debulking of the adhesive prior to curing of the adhesive such that the resulting bondline may have improved mechanical properties as a result of having fewer voids and/or porosity. The installation assembly may include an installation stand and a carrier plate supported by the installation stand and including an attachment surface configured to carry the first workpiece. The installation stand also includes an adjustment mechanism for positioning a carrier plate to a first predefined position to define a gap between the first and second workpieces and also to a second predefined position such that a predetermined bondline thickness is defined between the first and second workpieces.

  • Patent number: 9961069
Abstract: In a computer system, some resources may be protected within an SSO environment, and other resources may be protected in an alternate authentication environment. A user logged into an alternate authentication environment will again be prompted for login credentials when accessing an SSO protected resource. To avoid additional login prompts, credentials authenticated by the alternate authentication environment are used by the SSO environment to identify the user. The credentials are collected from the alternate authentication environment and provided to the SSO resource in the form of a ticket. The SSO resource forwards the ticket to an SSO provider. The SSO provider identifies the user within a user store using the credentials in the ticket. If the SSO provider identifies the user, the SSO provider generates a token and provides the token to the SSO resource. The token is authenticated by the SSO resource and access is granted to the user.

  • Publication number: 20170328343
Abstract: The present subject matter is directed to a system and method for improving speed control of a pitch drive system of a wind turbine. In one embodiment, the pitch drive system includes a direct current (DC) motor having an armature and a series-field winding, a battery assembly having a positive terminal and a negative terminal, and a current-controlling device configured in series between the positive terminal of the battery assembly and the series-field winding. The battery assembly is configured to supply power to the pitch drive system and the current-controlling device is configured to supply current to the series-field winding so as to ensure a field flux does not equal zero. Thus, the current-controlling device has the effect of limiting the maximum speed of the DC motor.
