  • Patent number: 9280113
Abstract: An image forming apparatus capable of stabilizing image density on a long-term basis by compensating for an error in prediction of toner particle charge amount, while reducing variation in image density on a short-term basis by the prediction. A CPU predicts an amount of electrostatic charge of toner particles in a developer container and sets an exposure condition and causes a toner image to be fixed on a recording medium and a pattern image for detecting image density, to be each formed on a photosensitive drum according to the set exposure condition, while performing gradation correction based on the gradation conversion table. The CPU updates the gradation conversion table such that a detected density of the pattern image becomes closer to a target density. The CPU sets the exposure condition based on a result of the prediction such that toner image density becomes constant.

  • Patent number: 9057977
Abstract: This invention is to provide a technique of always obtaining a stable output image in image formation using toner. A supplier (1217) supplies toner in a decided toner supply amount. A developing device (1206) agitates the supplied toner and supplies the agitated toner to an electrostatic latent image formed on a photosensitive drum (1203), thereby developing a toner image on the photosensitive drum (1203). A correction amount calculation unit (1106) estimates the toner charge amount by calculating a function model that approximates the variation characteristic of the toner charge amount using the toner consumption necessary for printing a print target image, the toner supply amount necessary for printing the print target image, and the toner agitation time. At least one of an image processing condition and a process condition is controlled using the estimated toner charge amount.

  • Patent number: 9020376
Abstract: An image forming apparatus capable of making image quality more stable than in the prior art. An electrostatic latent image is formed on the surface of a photosensitive member based on an image signal. A developing device develops the electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive member by toner to thereby form a patch image. An optical sensor detects the density of the patch image. A toner charge amount is calculated from the density detected by the optical sensor, and a change in the toner charge amount is predicted based on a plurality of results of the calculation of the toner charge amount. The image forming apparatus generates a ?LUT for use in correcting the relationship between the image signal and the density based on the predicted change in the toner charge amount.
