  • Publication number: 20040138667
Abstract: To facilitate positioning of a drill bit and alleviate burden to a user, a medical drill machine including a drive shaft gripping a drill bit, a casing constituted of X-ray transparent material and capable of housing the drive shaft, and a force transferring mechanism for transferring rotational force to the drive shaft is provided. In this medical drill machine, a first guide and a second guide constituted of X-ray opaque material are fixed at given positions along an axial direction of the drive shaft in the casing. The first and the second guides are arranged coaxially with the axis of the drive shaft, and are formed in mutually different shapes. X-rays are radiated along the direction of an ideal axial line to be traveled by the drill bit, such that a slant direction of the drill bit with respect to the ideal axial line can be recognized from any relative misalignment of the first and the second guides included in an X-ray image, and from the mutually different shapes of the guides.

  • Publication number: 20040075773
Abstract: A scramble/descramble apparatus that, when applying a partial-viewing-capable scrambling to video contents, allows a distributor to apply the scrambling, or to apply a scrambling with a strength that differs from the one at the time of the encoding. The scramble/descramble apparatus is implemented by encrypting a part of a video data portion of the encoded video contents. A contents-scrambling function in the above configuration performs correct video reproduction for a terminal that has the encryption key. Meanwhile, at a terminal that has no encryption key, the function allows the viewing (i.e., partial viewing) of a part of the video contents, or the viewing of video contents whose picture-quality has been degraded. At this time, applying the scrambling can be carried out after the video has been encoded. Accordingly, an encoding-performing party and a scrambling-performing party can be mutually different parties.

  • Publication number: 20030204476
Abstract: In a system using a terminal not connectable to a network during playback, when a user freely selects and reproduces encrypted contents, in the existing method, the initial load on the user is large and charging cannot be assured. Time counting is started when a user downloads a key generation program and accounting is performed automatically unless reset within a predetermined period of time or accounting is performed upon downloading and pay back is performed when reset within a predetermined period of time. Thus, it is possible to provide a method offering a large degree of freedom for a user and assuring accounting for a content provider.

  • Publication number: 20030014705
Abstract: When packet loss occurs during transmission of mobile communication of digital media data, the media data to be delivered to an application decoder is in such form that payload of the packet where loss has occurred is omitted, and accurate position of transmission error cannot be detected. According to the present invention, a data string not contained in specification and standards of the application decoder is inserted to a section with packet loss of the received data by system decoder, and the application decoder can explicitly judge from the data string that communication error has occurred is. As a result, the application decoder can detect accurate position of transmission error. Also, by arranging the data string to be inserted between the system decoder and the application decoder, the position of the error can be detected more accurately.

  • Patent number: 6490691
Abstract: A disk drive with the ability to detect errors caused by thermal asperities and assign alternate sectors is described. One of a plurality of error recovery procedures is executed after turning off a signal filter which normally removes a set of low frequencies from the output signal from the head. The unfiltered signal is used to judge whether a thermal asperity caused the error. If it is determined that a thermal asperity caused the error, the sector is marked as defective and an alternate sector is assigned even if other error recovery procedures are able to read the sector. The reliability of the drive is enhanced by removal of sectors from use which have temporarily recoverable errors caused by thermal asperities.
