  • Patent number: 11262828
Abstract: Systems and methods employ an external energy storage device (e.g., intelligent battery pack) interposed between a an information handling system (IHS) and its AC-to-DC adapter. The information handling system may be a fixed compute system, may lack an internal battery and/or may execute an operating system that does not have power management capability. The external energy storage device provides power and power state information to the IHS, e.g., that is based on state of charge (SOC) of the battery and/or absence/presence of AC power. IHS may perform one or more actions based on the power state information such as automatically save data and shutdown when notified AC power is lost and/or SOC is low, and may automatically restart and restore saved data when notified AC power is restored and/or SOC is sufficiently high. The external energy storage device may actively signal or command the IHS to act or may passively supply power state information and let the IHS decide how to act.

  • Patent number: 11240438
Abstract: An information handling system camera manages tilt and pan in an automated manner to direct the camera field of view. A shutter slides behind a camera cover to align a shutter opening with a cover opening. Additional sliding of the cover translates to a tilt of the camera from a full down axis to a full up axis. For example, a cam surface formed in the shutter engages the camera for tilt with a spring bias of the camera against the cam. Rotation of the camera housing about a bracket pivot gear is provided through sliding motion of a pan bar within the camera housing.

  • Patent number: 11197124
Abstract: A first electronic device may determine that a distance between the first electronic device and second electronic device has exceeded a threshold distance. The first electronic device may determine whether movement of the first electronic device or movement of the second electronic device caused the distance to exceed the distance threshold. Based upon the determination of whether movement of the first electronic device or movement of the second electronic device caused the threshold to be exceeded, the first electronic device may generate one or more alert notifications to notify the user that the distance has exceeded the threshold.

  • Patent number: 11163383
Abstract: An information handling system stylus performs touch inputs at a touchscreen display with an active writing tip that receives a capacitive signal from a processing resource, such as an ASIC. A tip position controller selectively retracts and extends the writing tip at an opening formed in a tip cap disposed at the end of the stylus. A power interface cuts off power to the processing resource when the writing tip retracts and applies power to the processing resource when the writing tip extends.

  • Patent number: 11112880
Abstract: A monitor's OSD can be selectively controlled with a keyboard, mouse or other human interface device. A microcontroller of a keyboard, mouse or other human interface device can be configured to detect the occurrence of input representing an OSD command. In response, the microcontroller can commence sending input to the monitor rather than to the computing device so that the input can control the OSD. Similarly, a filter driver on the monitor can be configured to detect the occurrence of input representing the OSD command. In response, the filter driver can commence sending input to the monitor's scalar rather than to the computing device.

  • Patent number: 11093209
Abstract: In a collaborative virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (xR) session, different users wearing head-mounted devices HMDs may leave the xR session and new HMD-wearing users may join. The HMD worn by the joining user may be calibrated based on the physical characteristics, such as ambient noise and interference, of physical environment in which the xR session is conducted. An HMD may generate a profile of the noise and interference in the environment that adversely affects the ability for the communicating directly via supported transmission mechanisms. The profile may be provided directly to the joining HMD, allowing the joining HMD to quickly calibrate the transmission mechanisms included in the received profile to the particular sources of noise and interference in the physical environment.

  • Patent number: 11050803
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for collaborating in the discovery of Head-Mounted Devices (HMDs) configured for hosting a co-located virtual, augmented, or mixed reality (xR) session. An HMD issues a request to join a co-located xR session. Participating in a co-located xR session requires a joining HMD to obtain authorization from a host HMD. A joining HMD may be located such that direct communications between the joining HMD and the host HMD are either unreliable, or beyond the capabilities of two HMDs. The joining HMD may collaborate with neighboring HMDs to obtain authorization from a host HMD. The host HMD aggregates information from joining HMDs to determine the authorized HMDs and to determine the most reliable forms of direct communication between each pair of HMDs participating in the xR session.
