  • Patent number: 7032853
Abstract: In a recording tape cartridge, at a reel which is accommodated within a case, a magnetic tape is wound around an outer peripheral portion of a reel hub, and a reel gear is provided coaxially and annularly at an end surface of the reel hub. An annular convex portion projects coaxially from the end surface of the reel hub. An end surface of the annular convex portion is a reference surface which is orthogonal to an axis of the reel. When the magnetic tape is used, the reference surface abuts a positioning surface of a drive device, the reel is positioned in an axial direction, and the reel rises up within the case. The reel rotates around the axis due to driving force of a driving gear which meshes with the reel gear.

  • Patent number: 7032233
Abstract: A disk cartridge has a write protect portion for switching between a write-allowed state and a write-inhibited state. The write protect portion is equipped with two prisms having reflection faces different in reflectivity which are rotatably supported therein. In a drive device in which the disk cartridge is loaded, an amount of light, which is irradiated to the write protect portion and then reaches a photodetecting portion of the drive device, is varied by rotating a shaft. On the basis of the amount of the light reaching the photodetecting portion, the drive device judges whether the disk cartridge is in a write-inhibited state. According to the disk cartridge, dust-proof performance is not lost, and occurrence of mis-detection due to deformation of the disk cartridge can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 7021580
Abstract: In a recording tape cartridge, an opening is formed at a corner portion between wall portions which are at a front and a side with respect to a direction of loading, into a drive device, a substantially rectangular case accommodating a reel on which a recording tape is wound. The opening is inclined with respect to the direction of loading. A leader member attached to an end portion of the recording tape is pulled-out from the opening. A door, which is formed in an arc-shape and opens and closes the opening, is disposed at the opening so as to be slidable along a predetermined, arc-shaped guide groove. A width of the groove is formed so as to narrow along a direction in which the door closes the opening. Opening and closing operations of the door are thereby stabilized.

  • Patent number: 7021578
Abstract: A recording tape cartridge in which melting, abrasion or the like does not occur at a portion of abutting of a brake member with a release member, or with a release portion of a drive device, during rotation of a reel. In this recording tape cartridge, a magnetic tape is wound onto the reel at a reel hub inside a case. A brake member is non-rotatably provided inside the case. The reel is rotation-locked when the brake member is disposed at a rotation-locking position, at which the brake member engages with an engaging protrusion of a bottom portion. A release pad is disposed between the bottom portion and the brake member and abuts against both thereof. When the release pad holds the brake member at a rotation-enabling position, the reel is rotatable.

  • Patent number: 7004343
Abstract: A case for a recording tape cartridge is formed by joining an upper case and a lower case via mutual peripheral walls. A blocking piece, which is disposed to extend along the peripheral wall of the upper case serving as a cover, is inserted into a recess, which is disposed in the lower case serving as a base and opens upward and sideward, and a portion of the recess is blocked off by the blocking piece, whereby an engagement hole is formed that is positioned lower than a parting line (PL) and opens only sideward. According to the invention, it is possible to form a recess that opens only toward the outer surface of the peripheral wall of the base of the case, without disposing undercuts in the base.

  • Patent number: 6988686
Abstract: A recording tape cartridge for enabling size reduction of a drive device. A substantially rectangular case rotatably accommodates a single reel on which a recording tape is wound. An opening, for drawing out a leader member attached to an end portion of the tape, is formed by cutting away a corner portion of the case at a side of loading into a drive device. A covering member, which is formed to be substantially circular arc-shaped in plan view, moves on a predetermined circular circumference at a side wall portion which is parallel with a drive device loading direction, to open and close the opening. An operation portion protrudes from the covering member and is operated by an opening member provided at the drive device. The operation member moves at one side of the position of a movement path of the covering member that is closest to the side wall in plan view, the one side being bounded by this position.

  • Patent number: 6983908
Abstract: A recording tape cartridge in which it is possible to suppress radial direction movement of a reel by a braking member which impedes rotation of the reel at a time when the recording tape cartridge is not being used, while ensuring strength of a reel hub with respect to pressure of winding of a recording tape therearound. At the recording tape cartridge, the reel, around which a magnetic tape is wound and which is accommodated in a case, is set in a rotation locked state when a braking member, which cannot rotate due to the braking member engaging with a cross-shaped rib, engages with anchor projections. When the braking member moves apart from the anchor projections, a meshed state is cancelled, and the reel can rotate with respect to the case. A reinforcing ring, which is fit together with an inner peripheral surface of the reel hub, reinforces the reel hub whose top end is open.

  • Patent number: 6978958
Abstract: Structure of a lower case that reinforces a recording tape cartridge. At an inner side of the lower case, an annular projecting portion is provided along and at an inner side of a reel area rib that demarcates a reel area, raising stiffness of the case. At a periphery of a hole for positioning, which is formed in an outer face of the lower case, a recessed surface, which provides a height direction reference surface, is formed. At the inner side of the lower case, a boss is formed in correspondence to the hole for positioning. The boss is located along an outer face of the reel area rib. A thickness-enhancing portion is formed at the periphery of a base portion of the boss. Thus, thickness at the reference surface, that is, the recessed surface, is substantially the same as thickness at portions therearound.
