  • Publication number: 20110310794
Abstract: A page including a calling party number from a circuit-switched network may be provided to a wireless terminal in wireless communication with a packet-data network. More particularly, a call origination message may be received at the circuit-switched network for the wireless terminal with the call origination message including a calling party number. Responsive to receiving the call origination message at the circuit-switched network, a Generic Circuit Services Notification Application (GCSNA) message may be generated at the circuit-switched network, and the GCSNA message may include a page message and the calling party number. The GCSNA message including the page message and the calling party number may then be transmitted to the wireless terminal through the packet-data network using a GCSNA tunneling protocol. Related methods, terminals and networks are also discussed.

  • Publication number: 20110274012
Abstract: A mobile station that is initially attached to a first type of wireless access network is involved in a packet-switched emergency call. Upon detection of transitioning of the mobile station, a message is sent indicating transitioning of the mobile station from the first type wireless access network to the second type wireless access network to cause the packet-switched emergency call to be performed over the second type wireless access network.

  • Publication number: 20110176536
Abstract: A hierarchical protocol classification and signaling method specifies the interworking protocols used to send circuit-switched signaling messages to and from a mobile terminal in a packet-switched network. A set of possible interworking protocols are divided into two more classes that correspond to different types of interworking protocols. Within each class, different versions of the interworking protocol are specified by a revision value. The versions of the interworking protocols within a given class are may be denominated such that the versions with a higher revision value are backward compatible with versions having a lower value. When a circuit services domain message is sent from a sending device to a receiving device, an interworking option specifying the class/revision of the interworking protocol is transmitted along with circuit services domain messages. The interworking option may be inserted into the header of a tunneling packet containing the circuit services domain message.

  • Publication number: 20110176414
Abstract: A congestion indication is introduced to indicate the congestion status of the circuit-switched network to a packet-switched network, such as an LTE network. The congestion indication is transmitted from an interworking function in the circuit-switched network to the LTE network. The congestion indication and/or other congestion information is transmitted with a circuit services signaling message that is otherwise being sent. Piggy-backing the congestion information with other circuit services signaling messages reduces the amount of signaling over the LTE network.

  • Patent number: 7907560
Abstract: A communication network includes first and second network entities capable of over-the-air communication. The second network entity receives at least one message communicated over-the-air by the first network entity. The message includes one or more message fields indicating a number of concurrent over-the-air service instances with the second network entity supported by the first network entity. • Publication number: 20110013598
Abstract: A mobile station determines whether the mobile station is receiving an overhead message in tunnel mode during a handover procedure of the mobile station from a source wireless access network to a target wireless network. The source and target wireless access networks are according to different technologies. In response to determining that the mobile station is in the tunnel mode, tunnel mode processing of the overhead message is performed. • Publication number: 20110007856
Abstract: A wireless access terminal, system and method for the wireless access terminal to synchronize to system times in a wireless communication system. A first timing hierarchy in a first wireless communication network is used to operate the wireless access terminal. The first wireless communication network has a first radio access technology. Operating with the first timing hierarchy includes determining a frame cycle for the first wireless communication network. The frame cycle has a frame cycle boundary. Broadcast parameters for a second wireless communication network having a second radio access technology different from the first radio access technology are received. The broadcast parameters include the system time of the second wireless communication network. The system time of second wireless communication network is aligned, from the perspective of the wireless access terminal, with the frame cycle boundary.

  • Patent number: 7809389
Abstract: To communicate in a press-to-talk (PTT) session, a message for requesting a right to talk in the PTT session is sent over a wireless link between a mobile station and a base station system. The message for requesting the right to talk in the PTT session is sent in wireless signaling over the wireless link. An acknowledgment of the wireless signaling carrying the message is received, with the acknowledgment sent by the base station system in response to the control signaling. • Publication number: 20100226267
Abstract: A system and method for determining an initial mean open loop power level of a pilot channel of a reverse traffic channel for a mobile terminal. The initial open loop power level enables handoff of an active call from a first access network to a second access network. A handoff initialization request is from the first access network. A mean received power level of the forward link of the second access network is measured and transmitted to the second access network. An open loop power adjustment factor is received from the second access network. The initial mean open loop power level is set based on the open loop power adjustment factor.

  • Patent number: 7787413
Abstract: An apparatus, a method, and a computer program are provided for increasing the efficiency of Radio Frequency (RF) resources. Specifically, a modified Resource Release Request Message (RRRM) is utilized. The modified RRRM incorporates several additional fields that allow for the release of multiple service instances at approximately the same time. The simultaneous or near simultaneous release of multiple service instance is more efficient that the traditional RRRM for the release of a single service instance. Therefore, limited RF resources can be better preserved.

  • Patent number: 7551555
Abstract: A communication network includes a base station in radio frequency communication with a mobile station. In order to regulate packet data messaging by the mobile station, the base station transmits a message over-the-air to the mobile station. The message indicates that the mobile station is to delay transmitting packet data messages and a duration of delay. In response to receipt of the message from the base station, the mobile station delays over-the-air transmission of packet data messages (e.g., Data Burst Messages) in accordance with the indicated duration.

  • Patent number: 7457321
Abstract: The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network to setup a shortened slot cycle operation for a mobile station. During wireless, packet-based communication, a mobile station can utilize a shortened slot cycle to increase the frequency a communication channel is monitored by a mobile station while in idle state. While this is advantageous to communication requiring a fast response, it increases power consumption and decreases battery charge time. Under present usage, the shortened slot cycle must be used by all mobile stations connected to the base transceiver whether required or not. To increase efficiency and avoid unnecessary power consumption, the invention allows only those mobile stations that require it to implement the shortened slot cycle. Signaling messages sent from the mobile station to the base station controller will initiate a shortened slot cycle only for that mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7236764
Abstract: In code division multiple access communication systems, there are three levels for updating locations of dormant mobile stations (MSs) and setting up fast call. In sector and are levels, the dormant MS send a layer 2 message containing a message type and MS identifier to a base transceiver station (BTS). Since the message is associated with the sector where the MS is located, the network is aware of the MS's location from the updated location. The dormant MS sends to the BTS a reconnect message containing a message type and an MS identifier. The MS's dormant to active state transition is initiated by the MS. In the communication network, sub-packet zone ID is broadcasted in the overhead message. The MS reports its location change on R-CSCH and the network with the BSC level control can page the MS within the zone where the MS sends the report.
