  • Publication number: 20050122923
Abstract: To communicate in a press-to-talk (PTT) session, a message for requesting a right to talk in the PTT session is sent over a wireless link between a mobile station and a base station system. The message for requesting the right to talk in the PTT session is sent in wireless signaling over the wireless link. An acknowledgment of the wireless signaling carrying the message is received, with the acknowledgment sent by the base station system in response to the control signaling. An indication is provided at the mobile station of the right to talk in response to the acknowledgment.

  • Publication number: 20050060363
Abstract: Operating a cellular wireless communication network to configure a mobile station to support a Multi-Media Service (MMS). Operation includes determining that configuration of the mobile station for the MMS is required. A plurality of components of the cellular wireless communication network are provisioned for configuring the mobile station, the plurality of components of the cellular wireless communication network including an Over-The-Air-Function (OTAF). The mobile station is then located, e.g., serving MSC, BSC, and base station are determined. Then, a wireless communication link with the mobile station via a servicing base station is established. Communications between the OTAF and the mobile station are then established via a combination of a wired path of the cellular wireless communication network and the wireless communication link. The OTAF then communicates with the mobile station to program at least one MMS Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) within the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20050041597
Abstract: A communication network includes a base station in radio frequency communication with a mobile station. In order to regulate packet data messaging by the mobile station, the base station transmits a message over-the-air to the mobile station. The message indicates that the mobile station is to delay transmitting packet data messages and a duration of delay. In response to receipt of the message from the base station, the mobile station delays over-the-air transmission of packet data messages (e.g., Data Burst Messages) in accordance with the indicated duration.

  • Publication number: 20050025192
Abstract: A method for communicating additional network information using a synchronization identifier is presented. A synchronization identifier is defined. The synchronization identifier is used for the purpose of synchronizing communication between a Mobile Station (MS) and a network. In addition, the synchronization identifier is used to define additional functionality in the wireless network. As such, the synchronization identifier may be used to communicate information about wireless services and/or wireless components between the MS and the network.

  • Publication number: 20050007973
Abstract: The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network to setup a shortened slot cycle operation for a mobile station. During wireless, packet-based communication, a mobile station can utilize a shortened slot cycle to increase the frequency a communication channel is monitored by a mobile station while in idle state. While this is advantageous to communication requiring a fast response, it increases power consumption and decreases battery charge time. Under present usage, the shortened slot cycle must be used by all mobile stations connected to the base transceiver whether required or not. To increase efficiency and avoid unnecessary power consumption, the invention allows only those mobile stations that require it to implement the shortened slot cycle. Signaling messages sent from the mobile station to the base station controller will initiate a shortened slot cycle only for that mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20040180655
Abstract: In a wireless communications network, a method of performing a location service with respect to a mobile station includes communicating a paging message containing an indication of whether the paging message is related to at least one of an emergency-related location service and a law enforcement-related location service. In another aspect, a mobile station in a wireless communications network communicates messaging to move the mobile station to a traffic channel in response to a callback by at least one of an emergency services entity and a law enforcement entity. The mobile station also receives a location request on the traffic channel, the location request containing an indication of whether the location request is related to at least one of an emergency-related location service and a law enforcement-related location service.

  • Publication number: 20040179492
Abstract: In code division multiple access communication systems, there are three levels for updating locations of dormant mobile stations (MSs) and setting up fast call. In sector and are levels, the dormant MS send a layer 2 message containing a message type and MS identifier to a base transceiver station (BTS). Since the message is associated with the sector where the MS is located, the network is aware of the MS's location from the updated location. The dormant MS sends to the BTS a reconnect message containing a message type and an MS identifier. The MS's dormant to active state transition is initiated by the MS. In the communication network, sub-packet zone ID is broadcasted in the overhead message. The MS reports its location change on R-CSCH and the network with the BSC level control can page the MS within the zone where the MS sends the report.

  • Publication number: 20040179490
Abstract: An apparatus, a method, and a computer program are provided for increasing the efficiency of Radio Frequency (RF) resources. Specifically, a modified Resource Release Request Message (RRRM) is utilized. The modified RRRM incorporates several additional fields that allow for the release of multiple service instances at approximately the same time. The simultaneous or near simultaneous release of multiple service instance is more efficient that the traditional RRRM for the release of a single service instance. Therefore, limited RF resources can be better preserved.

  • Publication number: 20030232629
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for admitting a voice call while a mobile station (MS) is engaging in a data call in a telecommunication network. First, a predetermined message is sent from a base station (BS) to the MS prohibiting the MS from initiating a data call for a predetermined period of time after receiving the predetermined message. The BS then releases a communication channel to be used for the voice call, and initiates the voice call, and the data call is reconnected after either voice call is completed.
