  • Publication number: 20130082002
Abstract: A water treatment system includes a weak acid cation resin where a portion of the feed water is exposed to the resin and then blended with untreated feed water to produce a stream of water with reduced mineral scaling and potential. Feed water is split into a first fluid stream, fed to a bypass conduit and a second fluid stream that is conveyed through a weak acid cation treatment bed. After passing through the bed, the treated fluid is combined with the bypass fluid stream to produce a blended feed water at the outlet. The ratio of the bypass fluid stream and treated fluid stream is a function of pH and L.S.I. A controller and associated sensors may control the relative flow rates between the bypass fluid stream and the treated stream to maintain a predetermined water parameter such pH, L.S.I., etc. within a predetermined range.

  • Publication number: 20120067569
Abstract: De-liquefying a well includes a steady state de-liquefying cycle which includes an initial step of pressurising the gas with a compressor. In an example embodiment, gas is delivered into the well down an outer tube. The gas displaces liquid within the well by pushing the liquid within tubes up another tube, as a liquid slug, to the surface. A sensor operates to sense the arrival of the liquid. A controller interrogates the sensor to determine whether a slug of liquid has arrived. If not, gas is continued to be delivered into the well. When the controller determines via the sensor that a slug of liquid has arrived, the controller operates to shut the delivery of gas to the well. This may be done either immediately upon detection of the slug or at some predetermined delay thereafter. To shut down the delivery of gas to the well, the controller opens a valve (in the event it was shut) to allow the compressor to discharge to a sales line.

  • Patent number: 8021532
Abstract: Dielectrophoretic (DEP) tweezers apparatus and methods for various applications, including particle trapping. Multiple electrodes (e.g., two or three) are disposed on or otherwise constitute an elongated object forming a tip. Exemplary electrode configurations include, but are not limited to, coaxial and triaxial arrangements. A voltage is applied across these electrodes to produce a non-uniform electromagnetic field proximate to the tip thereby creating a dielectrophoretic trap. Once trapped, a particle may be moved to desired locations via manipulation of the elongated object or the medium in which the particle is located. Multiple DEP tweezers apparatus may be arranged to form arrays of tips capable of respectively generating local electromagnetic fields confined to the tips. Such DEP arrays may be employed in nanofabrication processes involving nanolithography or nano-manipulation, as well as data storage and retrieval applications.

  • Patent number: 7860682
Abstract: A diagnostics system comprising a topological map of a target system that has nodes (38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48) that correspond to components (29, 30, 32, 34, 36) of the target system and links that correspond to connections between the components. Associated with the topological map is a knowledge store (50) that has a structure that reflects or corresponds to that of the topological map. Included in this store (50) is a plurality of sections or libraries each of which is provided for storing design specific data associated with one of the nodes (38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48) of the topological map.
