Abstract: Two-dimensional DOA estimation is challenging as the computational and hardware complexity could scale as the square as compared to that of one-dimensional problem. The proposed scheme relies on designing antenna locations and also involves a mix of subarray and digital beamforming to lower the overall system performance and cost by reducing the costly transceiver chains. This framework proposes a two-step solution which first isolates a target to a given range doppler bin and elevation angle by linear receive subarray in the elevation direction. However, the elevation estimate is relatively coarse which is further refined along with a high-resolution estimate of azimuth angle. This is achieved by processing the received data from a 2D sparse antenna array, which are systematically chosen to maximize the resolution in both directions. The compressive sensing algorithm is applied to the 2D sparse received array data which exploits the sparse representation of the underlying signal support.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method, system and computer program product for automated sampling, testing and treating large water basins. In an embodiment of the invention, the method includes storing a plurality of locations of a water basin, where each location includes at least one chemical delivery outlet. The method further includes monitoring water quality for each of the plurality of locations and mapping a water quality value to each of the locations. The method even further includes responsive to the water quality value failing to meet a threshold value in one of the locations, automatically determining an amount of chemical based on the water quality value and delivering the amount of chemical only to the one of the locations through its corresponding chemical delivery outlet.

Abstract: A refrigerant metering system/method incorporating a manual expansion valve (MEV), condenser isolation valve (CIV), flow isolation valve (FIV), and evaporator isolation valve (EIV) is disclosed. The MEV is configured to replace a conventional automated expansion valve (AEV) that controls a refrigerant flow valve (RFV) that is positioned in a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system between a refrigerant condenser coil (RCC) and a refrigerant evaporator coil (REC) and permits manual metering of refrigerant by the RFV from the RCC to the REC and also allows complete shutoff of refrigerant flow by the RFV from the RCC to the REC. The MEV allows rapid HVAC repair and restoration of service where a replacement AEV is not readily available. The CIV/FIV/EIV are positioned in the refrigerant flow lines to permit the AEV and/or REC to be isolated from HVAC refrigerant flow for repairs to the AEV and/or REC.

Abstract: A refrigerant leak detection and mitigation system/method for use in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that incorporates a refrigerant gas sensor (RGS), sensor signal conditioner (SSC), alarm status indicator (ASI), and digital control processor (DCP) is disclosed. The RGS detects ambient refrigerant gas (ARG) and indicates this as a refrigerant sensor voltage (RSV) to the SSC. The DCP and SSC form a closed control loop (CCL) in which the SSC electrical characteristics are adjusted by the DCP such that the RSV is continuously and dynamically recalibrated to account for background refrigerant gas levels, changes in ambient air conditions, RGS manufacturing tolerances, and other field-specific operational conditions that impact the RGS detection capabilities. The DCP is configured to log alarms to the ASI if a RGS refrigerant leak is detected and optionally shutdown one or more HVAC system components such as a specific air handler leaking refrigerant.

Abstract: A cryogenic parametric amplifier control apparatus is disclosed. Methods of implementation and devices incorporated within the whole of the apparatus are disclosed. Methods of reducing the number of signal lines necessary to control a parametric amplifier are disclosed. Schema allowing for control of multiple parametric amplifiers with a single apparatus are disclosed.

The HGS detects ambient hydrocarbon gas (AHG) and presents a hydrocarbon sensor voltage (HSV) to the SSC. The DCP and SSC form a closed control loop (CCL) in which the SSC electrical characteristics are adjusted by the DCP such that the HSV is continuously and dynamically recalibrated to account for background HBG levels, changes in ambient air conditions, HGS manufacturing tolerances, and other field-specific operational conditions that impact the HGS detection capabilities. The DCP is configured to log alarms to the ASI if a HGS HBG leak is detected and optionally shutdown gas flow to one or more HBG target (HBT) system components.

Abstract: Examples disclosed herein relate to a beam steering vehicle radar for object identification. The beam steering vehicle radar includes a beam steering receive antenna having a plurality of antenna elements to generate a radiation beam comprising a main lobe and a plurality of side lobes, at least one guard band antenna to generate a guard band radiation beam, and a perception module coupled to the beam steering receive antenna to detect and identify a first object reflection in the radiation beam. The perception module has a monopulse module to determine a range and angle of arrival for the first object reflection and detect multiple objects upon determining an absence of a second object reflection in the guard band radiation beam.

Abstract: Examples disclosed herein relate to a radar system for object identification. The radar system transmitting an azimuth fan beam and incrementing elevation of the beam. The radar system may include a transmit antenna and a receive antenna, each having a plurality of antenna elements arranged in rows and columns. The radar system may include a transceiver coupled to the transmit antenna and the receive antenna, the transceiver configured to control transmit beams having an azimuth fan beam, or an elevation fan beam. The radar system may include a processing unit. In various embodiments, the processing unit may include a digital processing unit; a range Doppler mapping module; and an azimuth detection module coupled to the transceiver. The azimuth detection module may be configured to process received signals and identify an azimuth angle of arrival by correlating signals received at antenna elements in rows of the receive antenna.

Abstract: In accordance with various implementations, a radar system comprising a non-line of sight (NLOS) module to enhance operation of the radar system is provided. In various embodiments, the NLOS module is a radar repeater module with phase shifters to generate an indication of an object detected in a NLOS area. In various embodiments, the NLOS module includes a reflector structure configured to reflect or redirect radar signals from a train on the tracks into a NLOS area. The NLOS module can include a receive antenna, a transmit antenna configured to transmit one or more received radar signals into a NLOS area, and a phase shifting module for applying a phase shift to a radar signal reflected from an object in the NLOS area that is outside an operational range of the radar unit.

Abstract: A radar system for interacting with navigation targets is provided. The radar system is configured to interact with navigation targets (target devices) that shift the phase of a received radar transmission to generate a phase shifted response signal. Phase shifters (e.g., silicon germanium phase shifters) are designed to assign specific frequency responses from one or more navigation modules to identify target locations. The radar module transmits at a modulated signal at first frequency, each navigation target receives the radar transmission, phase shifts the signal and returns the phase shifted signal. Where two or more navigation targets are used, each will apply a different phase shift to the received radar transmission, wherein the frequency identifies the navigation target devices. In a radar system, the modulated transmission signal is compared to the returned phase shifted signal to determine a frequency difference between the two signals.

Abstract: A HVAC air treatment (HAT) system/method for use in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that incorporates an air flow sensor (AFS), timer control unit (TCU), ultraviolet lamp(s) (UVL), lamp feedback indicator (LFI), liquid distribution atomizer (LDA), leak exhaust fan (LEF), and digital control processor (DCP) is disclosed. The AFS indicates detection of air flow within the HVAC ducts (HVD) to the DCP and may wirelessly communicate with the DCP. The DCP interrogates the TCU to determine when HAT is to occur if HVD air flow is detected and activates the UVL to disinfect air within the HVD. The LFI provides feedback to the DCP to verify that the UVL is operational. The UVL may be positioned at the fresh air intake (FAI), air intake plenum (AIP), evaporator/heat exchanger (HEX), and/or air exhaust plenum (AEP) and may incorporate an adjustable magnetic frame (AMF) allowing UVL retrofit installation.

Abstract: Examples disclosed herein relate to a radar system and method of angular resolution refinement for use in autonomous vehicles. The method includes transmitting a radio frequency (RF) beam to a surrounding environment with a beamsteering radar system and receiving return RF beams from the surrounding environment. The method also includes generating radar data from the return RF beams and detecting objects from the radar data, and determining a direction of arrival of each of object and determining an angular distance between the objects. The method further includes initiating a guard channel detection based at least on the angular distance and determining gain amplitudes of the return RF beams, and determining a null between the objects from the gain amplitudes and resolving the objects as separate objects based at least on the determined null. The method also includes determining a refined direction of arrival of the objects based at least on the resolved objects.

Abstract: A coating process employing coating techniques which allow an end-user to coat steel, rather than relying on a specialized location or supplier, is provided. The techniques produce a coating having high temperature oxidation resistance, greater corrosion resistance, and added surface lubricity to minimize die wear during a stamping process. The techniques also allow configurability with surface textures and allow thickness control. In addition, selective coating of a part or product, for example, around a weld area, and the addition of componentry, for example sensors, with the sensors being employed to monitor the coating, is possible. The coating includes a top functional layer including least one of Al, Ni, Fe, Si, B, Mg, Zn, Cr, h-BN, and Mo, and an interfacial layer with intermetallics formed therein. The interfacial layer can consist of at least one intermetallic, or the interfacial layer can include a mixture of the intermetallic(s) and steel.

Abstract: A stationary recumbent bike that can vary in both longitudinal and lateral angular displacement to simulate upward, downward, turning and leaning motions is disclosed. The disclosed recumbent bike comprises a seating section with a longitudinal axis frame, a pair of cycling pedals, a first actuator that provides longitudinal angular displacement for the seating section, a second actuator that provides lateral angular displacement for the seating section through a lateral axis frame, a processor that controls and synchronizes the first actuator and the second actuator based on simulated routes programmed and a power supply for supplying power to the first actuator, the second actuator and the processor.

Abstract: A method for reducing noise produced by well operations includes obtaining a list of equipment performing the well operations in an open-air environment. The method further includes obtaining a mapping between engine rotations-per-minute (“RPM”), load, and noise produced by a combination of the equipment. The method further includes selecting a set point comprising gear number and engine speed, respectively for each engine, that minimizes the noise produced for the combination of the equipment based on the mapping. The method further includes adjusting each engine driving the well operations to operate at the respective set point.

Abstract: A method of recovering phosphoric acid from process water includes directing a process water stream having a pH and a first concentration of phosphoric acid and at least one salt into a vessel, contacting the process water stream with a sorption agent in the vessel, the sorption agent adsorbing phosphoric acid from the process water, withdrawing a first effluent including a first concentration of the at least one salt and a second concentration of phosphoric acid from the vessel, and contacting the sorption agent including the phosphoric acid with water, at least a portion of the phosphoric acid desorbing from the ion exchange media into the water to form a second effluent having a third concentration of phosphoric acid.

Abstract: A protective surface treatment in the form of a coating for steel or another metal or metal alloy capable of providing oxidation resistance in an inert gas furnace or air-containing furnace is provided. The coating is formed by a solution including at least one flux agent, such as boric acid, and at least one binder, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), polyvinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate (PVP/VA), hydrooxypropylcellulose (HPC), ethylcellulose, and/or acrylics. The solution also includes at least one solvent, such as methanol or ethanol and can include various additives. The finished coating includes iron borate and provides a glassy surface.
