  • Patent number: 8359128
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing solar power collection. A position of the sun is identified relative to an aerospace vehicle while the aerospace vehicle is moving along a flight path. A level of power generation is identified by a solar power generation system while the aerospace vehicle moves along the flight path using a threat management module and equivalent radar signature data. The threat management module uses the equivalent radar signature data to identify the level of power generation by the aerospace vehicle from different positions of the sun relative to the aerospace vehicle, and the equivalent radar signature data is based on solar power generation signature data identifying the level of power generation for the different positions of the sun relative to the aerospace vehicle. A change in the flight path that results in a desired level of power generation is identified by the solar power generation system.

  • Publication number: 20130013561
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for efficiently storing metadata of partitioned data (e.g., directed to a specific individual/user). A first subset of data is identified from the set of partitioned data. The first subset of data comprises data that has a high frequency of access, and may be identified, at least in part, by frequency of access metadata that is associated with the data in the set. Metadata, such as discovery information, permissions, version info, etc., that is associated with the data in the first subset can be stored in low latency (e.g., fast) storage, proving more efficient access. Metadata associated with data from the set of partitioned data that is not in the first subset (e.g., that is not accessed frequently) can be stored in higher latency (e.g., slower, less expensive) storage.

  • Publication number: 20120312458
Abstract: We describe a peel and present mechanism (10) for use with labelling apparatus such as a label stock cartridge or cassette, or a label printer. The peel and present mechanism is configured to peel labels (18) from label stock (14) having a backing liner (16). The mechanism comprises a first, label stock carrying face bounded by a label-detachment edge (12,20) wherein, in use, said label stock passes in a longitudinal direction over said label stock carrying face and around said label-detachment edge (20) to peel and present labels (18), and wherein said label stock carrying face has a bent transverse surface profile (24) in a transverse direction perpendicular to said longitudinal direction such that, in use, said label stock is bent in said transverse direction whereby, as said label stock passes over said-label detachment edge, said longitudinal direction of said label stock defines a projected path for a label peeled from said label stock by said label-detachment edge.

  • Patent number: 8291110
Abstract: An apparatus, method and system to enable dynamic replication of Web servers across a wide area in response to access patterns by Web clients as well as in response to customer requests. The method for dynamically replicating one or more parent nodes on a network in response to a user request by a policy manager. The policy manager transmits the user request to an event module. The event module transmits the user request to a data consistency module, wherein the data consistency module maintains integrity of the data on the parent node. The event system communicates with a resource management module to ensure proper utilization of network resources, and transmits the routing request to a request routing module for appropriately balancing the network load. The request routing module is capable of providing optimal routing based on the network resources.

  • Publication number: 20120060469
Abstract: A vehicle includes an engine, an exhaust system having a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device, a NOx sensor, and first and second controllers. The first controller compares estimated NOx levels from an SCR model to actual levels from the sensor, and updates the SCR model when the values differ from each other. The second controller evaluates an updating frequency of the SCR model, and executes a control action when the frequency is excessive. A control system includes the sensor and two controllers noted above. A method of diagnosing the exhaust system includes measuring NOx gasses downstream of the SCR device, updating the SCR model when the deviation is present between estimated and measured NOx levels, comparing estimated ammonia (NH3) storage levels from the SCR model to modeled or estimated upper and lower NH3 storage level boundaries to determine excessive updating, and setting a diagnostic code when excessive updating is present.

  • Publication number: 20120025195
Abstract: In a structure for crystalline material growth, there is provided a lower growth confinement layer and an upper growth confinement layer that is disposed above and vertically separated from the lower growth confinement layer. A lateral growth channel is provided between the upper and lower growth confinement layers, and is characterized by a height that is defined by the vertical separation between the upper and lower growth confinement layers. A growth seed is disposed at a site in the lateral growth channel for initiating crystalline material growth in the channel. A growth channel outlet is included for providing formed crystalline material from the growth channel. With this growth confinement structure, crystalline material can be grown from the growth seed to the lateral growth channel outlet.

  • Patent number: 8061126
Abstract: A dosing control system comprises a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) analysis module, a dosing management module, an adjustment module, and an error module. The SCR analysis module estimates ammonia (NH3) stored by an SCR catalyst, a maximum NH3 storage capacity of the SCR catalyst, and a nitrogen oxides (NOx) measurement for a NOx sensor downstream of the SCR catalyst. The dosing management module controls dosing agent injection upstream of the SCR catalyst based on the maximum NH3 storage capacity and the NH3 stored. The adjustment module outputs an adjusted estimate of the NOx measurement based on the estimate of the NOx measurement, cross-sensitivity of the NOx sensor, and a delay period for exhaust flow. The error module selectively adjusts at least one of the NH3 stored and the maximum NH3 storage capacity based on a difference between the adjusted estimate and NOx measured by the NOx sensor.

  • Publication number: 20110173677
Abstract: An anti-virus system provider distributes an e-mail identifying content filtering rule seeking to identify e-mail messages suspected of containing an item of malware from a central source (20) to users (2). This distribution may be by an e-mail message itself which is appropriately signed and encrypted. At the user system (2), the received e-mail identifying content filtering rule is extracted from the e-mail message and added to the content filtering rules (18) being applied within that user system. In this way, malware which is distributed by e-mail may be identified by characteristics of its carrier e-mail rather than characteristics of the malware itself which not yet have been properly analysed or the mechanisms for detecting such characteristics of the malware itself not yet put in place.

  • Publication number: 20110164512
Abstract: A wireless mesh network includes a plurality of wireless devices and a gateway organized in a multi hop mesh topology. Each wireless device maintains and reports radio statistics to the gateway, and also reports battery conditions of its power source. The device manager communicates with the gateway and provides an alert indicating existence of a pinch point within the mesh network based upon the radio statistics. When a low battery condition is reported by a device, the device manager determines whether loss of that device is a pinch point or will cause a pinch point, and provides a low battery alert prioritized based upon the pinch point analysis.

  • Publication number: 20110127638
Abstract: Improved complementary doping methods are described herein. The complementary doping methods generally involve inducing a first and second chemical reaction in at least a first and second portion, respectively, of a dopant source, which has been disposed on a thin film of a semiconductor or semimetal material. The chemical reactions result in the introduction of an n-type dopant, a p-type dopant, or both from the dopant source to each of the first and second portions of the thin film of the semiconductor or semimetal. Ultimately, the methods produce at least one n-type and at least one p-type region in the thin film of the semiconductor or semimetal.
