  • Patent number: 8895482
Abstract: Degeneration of shale caused by oxygen in aqueous drilling, fracturing and completion fluids is minimized by introducing imidazolines modified so that they will be attracted efficiently to pyrites in the shale, thereby forming a protective coating on the pyrites. Inhibiting oxidation of the pyrites sharply reduces physical degradation of the shale in the presence of drilling, fracturing and completion fluids carrying oxygen. The imidazoline is an ionic salt or a beatine.

  • Patent number: 8880529
Abstract: A method for generating and maintaining hierarchical tags with community-based ratings is provided. Tags for media streams are organized into a hierarchical format. Users may select tags from the hierarchical tag database that describes a particular multimedia content. If the user is unable to locate a desired tag, the user may submit a new tag. Upon submission of the new tag, a librarian approves the tag before storing and placing the tag in the hierarchical tag database. Users are also able to rate the quality of the association between the tag and the multimedia content. If a tag is rated low, the tag may be removed from the hierarchical tag database. If the tag is rated highly, display of the tag in a list of tags becomes more prominent.

  • Patent number: 8726061
Abstract: Multiple media devices are synchronized in a multi-media system having a computer system, a plurality of media devices, and a display system. Each media device to be synchronized receives a front-end synchronization signal that periodically increments a front-end counter. The front-end counter represents an unadjusted system time (UST). The media device obtains a frame of data to be displayed from a computer system. The media device also receives a back-end synchronization signal that periodically increments a back-end counter each time a frame of data is to he displayed. The back-end counter represents a media stream count (MSC). UST and MSC data are periodically transmitted to the computer system for analysis and use by a synchronization algorithm. Specifically, UST is transmitted to the computer system each time a frame of data is obtained, and a UST/MSC pair is transmitted to the computer system each time a frame of data is displayed.

  • Publication number: 20140127664
Abstract: Method and system for real-time computerized interactive text memorization. The real-time computerized interactive text memorization aids in the memorization of large amounts of text that contain an established sequence and flow that must be adhered to during the recitation of the text by a speaker. The present disclosure utilizes a data parser, a character selection function, a text to speech engine and a voice recorder to provide visual text displays, digitized and recorded audio playback and digitized and recorded audio annotation. Data is uploaded into the system where they are then scanned by the data parser and prepared to create the various audio/visual elements needed for memorization by the user. The data parser then searches and separates text-based data into its unique theatrical or playwriting character based components. A character selection function of the present disclosure allows a user to select as many characters s desired from the uploaded parsed data.

  • Publication number: 20140093923
Abstract: The present disclosure identifies methods and compositions for modifying photoautotrophic organisms as hosts, such that the organisms efficiently convert carbon dioxide and light into hydrocarbons, e.g., n-alkanes and n-alkenes, wherein the n-alkanes are secreted into the culture medium via recombinantly expressed transporter proteins. In particular, the use of such organisms for the commercial production of n-alkanes and related molecules is contemplated.

  • Patent number: 8660410
Abstract: A closed caption tagging system provides a mechanism for inserting tags into an audio or video television broadcast stream prior to or at the time of transmission. The tags contain command and control information that the receiver translates and acts upon. The receiver receives the broadcast stream and detects and processes the tags within the broadcast stream which is stored on a storage device that resides on the receiver. Program material from the broadcast stream is played back to the viewer from the storage device. Tags indicate the start and end points of a program segment. Program segments such as commercials are automatically replaced by the receiver with new program segments that are selected based on various criteria.

  • Patent number: 8650336
Abstract: The direct memory access device and method of the present invention uses an event calendar, an expired event queue of a fixed size, a calendar scanner, and an event mover. The event calendar stores an event in a linked list. The expired event queue stores an event that has already expired from the event calendar. The calendar scanner automatically scans the event calendar without management by a central processing unit (CPU). The event mover moves an event from the event calendar to the expired event queue without management by the CPU. The method provides for storing the event in the linked list, automatically scanning the event calendar without management by the CPU, moving the event from the event calendar to an expired event queue of a fixed size without management by the CPU, and storing the event that has already expired from the event calendar.
