  • Patent number: 8240648
Abstract: An arrangement for clamping a flat plate to a flat surface includes juxtaposing the plate to the flat surface. An axially-movable wedging element defining a surface fitted with wedges is fixed against motion in other than a direction of elongation, and is forced to move in the direction of elongation. The wedges are forced against a first spring beam to impart forces thereto. The forces are coupled from the first spring beam to a second spring beam by intermediary supports. The second spring beam bears against a surface of the flat plate to force the plate against the flat surface.

  • Patent number: 8196142
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are directed toward managing a system that includes a cluster and an external resource. The external resource may be part of a second cluster that is collocated on the same hardware platforms as the cluster. A proxy resource is used to enforce a dependency relationship between a native resource of the cluster and an external resource, such that a dependency with the proxy resource serves to enforce a dependency with the external resource. The cluster framework may maintain states of the proxy resource, including an offline state, an online-standby state, and an online state. The online-standby indicates that the proxy has been started, but it has not determined that the associated external resource is enabled. The proxy may determine whether the external resource is enabled or disabled and, in response, notify the cluster framework.

  • Publication number: 20110272094
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a planar electronic device includes applying a non-conductive fluid polymer to a lower side of a planar substrate. The substrate includes a hole extending through the substrate. The method also includes curing the fluid polymer to form a solid centering layer on the lower side of the substrate, with the centering layer extending across the hole along the lower side of the substrate. The method further includes loading a ferrite material body into the hole of the substrate through the upper side of the substrate, embedding the ferrite material body in an encapsulating material in the hole, and forming one or more conductive loops around the ferrite material body. The ferrite material body is held within the substrate between the lower side and the upper side of the substrate by the encapsulating material.

  • Patent number: 7750284
Abstract: A mesotube apparatus is disclosed which includes a header insulator in order to avoid premature breakdown at lower voltage that occurs between a cathode and an anode in a discharge assembly. A chamber can be mounted on a header base and can be located away from plasma surrounded with dielectric so that breakdown occurs outside the normal voltage operating range. A number of feed-through pins associated with the header base can be electrically isolated from the header base by a dielectric insulator. The dielectric insulator can also be placed over the header base and topside of the chamber in order to passivate from stray electrons and plasma. The header base can be thin which allows welding of the anode and the cathode to the feed-through pins with a weld tool attached to the side of the feed-through pins. The chamber can be located on the header base by tightly fitting to the feed-through pins.

  • Publication number: 20080221559
Abstract: A method for determining a peak fluence of an excimer laser includes scanning an excimer laser beam in a predetermined pattern on a film. The film can include a polymer layer atop a substrate including an upper layer having a first characteristic and a lower layer having a second characteristic detectably distinct from the first characteristic. The predetermined pattern includes a plurality of discrete points receiving incrementally greater numbers of pulses, at least one point receiving a sufficient number of pulses to penetrate through the polymer layer and the upper layer. A breakthrough point is detected at which a smallest number of pulses was sufficient to penetrate through the polymer layer and the upper layer, thereby exposing the lower layer to a detection of the second characteristic. A peak fluence of the excimer laser can then be determined from the number of pulses received at the detected breakthrough point.

  • Publication number: 20080144038
Abstract: A method for assessing a performance of a laser system for use in corneal ablation is provided that includes directing a beam of laser shots onto a fluorescent indicator. The indicator is adapted to emit a first wavelength of light different from a second wavelength of light impinging thereon. The directing step is performed in a plane of a cornea of an eye desired to be ablated and also onto a cornea positioned at the corneal plane. Light reflected from the indicator is detected, and a difference between a detected light pattern from the camera and a predetermined ablation pattern desired to be made on the cornea is calculated. The predetermined pattern is then corrected to compensate for the calculated difference.
