    Abstract: A rotary-motion directional fluid-flow control valve comprising an inner valve element rotatable about an axis therethrough and formed with concavities in its outer peripheral wall, an outer valve body rotatable about an axis aligned with the axis of rotation of the valve element and circumferentially slidable on the outer peripheral surface of the valve element, and plug members which are closely fitting in radial holes formed in the valve body and including a first plug member solid in its entirety and a second plug member formed with an axial bore, the first and second plug members being in registry with the concavities in the valve element in radial directions of the valve body depending upon the relative angular positions of the valve body and element. The valve may be advantageously use in a power-assisted steering system of an automotive vehicle.

    Abstract: The wipers of a windshield wiper are oscillated by a drive shaft driven by a wiper motor. A disc-type contact base member is securely mounted on the drive shaft to carry thereon two electrically conductive plates each of which is contactable with a pair of stationary contacts. When an electrical connection is established between the pair of stationary contacts, a washer pump supplied with electric current is driven to eject a washer liquid through nozzles onto the surface of a windshield. The conductive plates are so located that the electrical connection between the pair of stationary contacts is established only during time periods in which the wiper blades move in both "go" and "return" directions from their starting positions to positions which are immediately in front of the positions at which the wiper blades would be struck by the washer liquid being ejected from the nozzles.

    Abstract: A vacuum motor operatively connected to a slave cylinder operates same via pressure differential variations across a reciprocatable vacuum motor piston to pump working fluid from a reservoir to an accumulator through two one way valves. The pressure differential variation can be derived from gear changing of the vehicle, induced through a three way electromagnetic valve controlled by a circuit characterized by either an unstable multivibrator, a dual stable multivibrator, a thyristor or a self maintaining relay, or induced through a purely mechanically operated valve characterized by lost motion and snap action position maintain devices. A pressure relief valve may be provided which dumps excessive pressurized fluid in the accumulator and returns same to the reservoir.

A magnesium compound easily alterable to MgO at a high temperature, barium halide or mixture of barium compounds easily alterable to BaO at a high temperature containing barium halide at such a rate that the amount of barium contained in the barium halide is not less than 70% by weight of the total amount of barium in the mixture of the barium compounds, an aluminium compound easily alterable to Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 at a high temperature and a europium compound easily alterable to Eu.sub.2 O.sub.3 at a high temperature are mixed at a mixing weight ratio to satisfy the above composition formula. The mixture thus obtained is fired in air at a temperature of 1200.degree.

    Abstract: A constant velocity universal joint comprises an outer joint element having grooves on its spherical inner surface. An inner joint element is positioned within the outer joint element and is provided with grooves on its spherical outer surface to form pairs of opposed grooves with the grooves on the outer joint element. A ball is positioned in every pair of opposed grooves and a cage disposed between the two joint elements retains the balls in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the cage. The cage is guided within the outer joint element by a spherical surface on the outer face of the cage and is guided with respect to the inner joint element by a spherical surface on the inner face of the cage. To facilitate assembly in the joint without weakening structural strength of the cage, the cage is provided with transverse notches or grooves in two diagonal positions.

    Abstract: In an air-tight at least partially transparent container, a phosphor, a gas or gas mixture and a pair of discharging electrodes are contained. The discharge gap is in the range of 0.1 to 3.0mm, and the pressure of the gas or gas mixture sealed in the container is such that the product of the pressure and the discharge gap is in the range of 30 to 300 Torr.mm. The gas or gas mixture has discharge radiation spectra within the region of wavelength shorter than 200nm. The phosphor is a manganese activated aluminate phosphor represented by the formula(M.sup.II.sub.1-x, Mn.sub.x ) O.multidot.zAl.sub.2 O.sub.3where M.sup.II is selected from a group consisting of calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium and zinc, and x and z are numbers within the ranges of 10.sup.-3 .ltoreq.x.ltoreq.7.times.10.sup.-1 and 1.ltoreq.z.ltoreq.20, respectively.

    Abstract: Clutch control comprising a first three-way valve which is automatically operated by the accelerator to effect the clutch engaging operation of a clutch control pressure differential operated motor and a second three-way valve which is automatically operated, when the clutch plates contact at a predetermined load, to terminate a relatively fast clutch engaging movement of the clutch plates. The motor is also in part controlled by a bleed valve operative to control the loading of the clutch plates as the clutch plates are moved by a clutch spring into firmer engagement with each other. The bleed valve is operative to repeatedly close and open an air bleed port in response to a signal pulse. A pulse width modulator is provided to vary the pulse width of the signal pulse.
