  • Publication number: 20030110409
Abstract: A fault router method and system for use in a parallel redundant network environment provide additional safeguards over traditional redundant networks. Where multiple connection faults on multiple machines would ordinarily stifle communications between two or more network entities, the fault router passes packets between redundant networks to bypass connection faults. Compatibility and timing improvements allow for the extension of the parallel network environment, and provide for time-synchronized network operation.

  • Patent number: 6421707
Abstract: A wireless multimedia messaging communications method and apparatus that permits a subscriber to a wireless telecommunications service to receive and generate multimedia messages from known wireless personal communications devices, i.e., cellular/PCS telephones. A multimedia message may be received by the network and selectively delivered to a subscriber of the wireless service. Upon receipt of the message, the network determines an appropriate action to take with respect to the message based upon a profile of the subscriber. The subscriber is then notified by the network of the message and then delivers the message and any multimedia attachments to the message to the subscriber, according to a delivery indication sent by the subscriber to the network. Advantageously, the method allows for the conversion of messages as appropriate, i.e.

  • Patent number: 6215782
Abstract: A method for reconnecting calls affected by a loss of synchronization comprises detecting disconnect of a call and initiating a time-out sequence during which reconnection attempts are performed. The reconnection time-out sequence may be incremented a predetermined number of times before reconnection attempts are terminated and the call is released. Further, a mobile switching center and a serving base station may selectively determine whether reconnection attempts are to be made. Advantageously, resources associated with a call affected by a loss of synchronization are held for a predetermined time. If reconnection is successful, the held resources are bridged to new air traffic channels resulting in enhanced network efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6014429
Abstract: A two-way wireless messaging system has a messaging network, and a two-way messaging device that originates, receives and replies to messages having dynamic message components to and from the messaging network. A transaction server is located within the messaging network for opening and tracking messages among various users of the two-way messaging system, and closing a transaction to prevent further message delivery and replies after a predetermined transaction is completed. A transaction can remain open until a reply has been received by every intended message recipient; until a desired number of message recipient received a message; or until a specified amount of time has expired.

  • Patent number: 5970122
Abstract: A two-way wireless messaging system includes a messaging network having at least one user agent corresponding to a subscriber of a two-way wireless messaging service. The subscriber receives messages from the messaging network along a first communication channel. The user agent includes a plurality of messages stored therein wherein a predetermined message is stored in the user agent and forwarded to a desired destination in response to an originating message code that is received from a two-way messaging device of the subscriber along a second communication return channel. The originating message code can be expanded by the user agent. The messages stored by the user agent can be modified so that different messages can be forwarded to the predetermined destination. The user agent also maintains location information of the two-way messaging device of the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 5959543
Abstract: A system and method for two-way wireless messaging is disclosed. A plurality of messages are stored within a user agent of the two-way messaging network. The messages correspond to those selected by a subscriber of a two-way messaging service. The messages are encoded and include control information. An originating message transfer code is transmitted from the two-way messaging device of the subscriber to the two-way messaging network. The originating message transfer code includes, among other things a message number and a modifier that specifies customizations that are to be applied to a message. The originating message code is then expanded within the user agent, and the expanded message is forwarded to desired destinations based on the content of the originating message transfer code.

  • Patent number: 5953331
Abstract: A telecommunications system is arranged to efficiently route digital information from a mobile network to a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and vice versa by interposing a packet network between the mobile network and PSTN so that digital information originating from the wireless network at a first data rate may be forwarded over the packet network at that rate and then sent over a direct connection from the packet network to the PSTN at a second data rate expected by the PSTN. In this way the conversion of the digital information from the first to the second data rate is performed only when needed, i.e., at the ATM switch connected to the PSTN.

  • Patent number: 5943334
Abstract: An intelligent mobile terminal includes a reconnection processor for reestablishing calls affected by a loss of synchronization of signals between the mobile terminal and a serving base station. In the preferred embodiment, the serving base station establishes a reconnection channel for issuing messages relating to new air traffic channels. The reconnection processor causes a mobile terminal to tune to the reconnection channel in the event of loss of synchronization. Information received over the reconnection channel is used by the mobile terminal to reestablish calls affected by loss of synchronization.

  • Patent number: 5936578
Abstract: A multipoint-to-point wireless System using directional antennas in an indoor environment. Optical pulses in an asynchronous transfer mode network may be converted into radio pulses, which are transmitted by a radio transmitter to a radio receiver, and then may be reconverted into optical pulses. Transmitter antennas having predetermined beamwidths are used and positioned within the indoor environment for transmitting data signals at a selected carrier frequency. A receiver antenna with a predetermined bandwidth is positioned within the indoor environment for receiving data signals transmitted at the selected carrier frequency. Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK) is used so that the output between transmitted data packets is zero, thereby allowing other users to utilize the system during the gap between the packets.
