  • Publication number: 20060039416
Abstract: Time multiplexed processing of multiple SONET signals uses the same shared circuitry for framing, descrambling, maintenance signal processing, control byte processing and extraction, pointer tracking, retiming, and alarm indication. The signals are deserialized and multiplexed onto a byte-wide bus from which they are processed in a shared pipeline. Additional pipelines allow scaling up to higher capacity SONET signals. Each pipeline is provided with means for communicating with the other pipelines so that information derived from the processing of one stream can be shared with the processing of other streams when necessary. According to the presently preferred embodiment, bytes pass through the pipeline in five clock cycles.

  • Patent number: 6999774
Abstract: A home agent (104, 108) and a foreign agent (110, 114) in a wireless communication system (100) establish (202) a special communications channel (140–154) between themselves, the special communications channel dedicated to messages addressed to multiple mobile nodes. The home agent then detects (206) whether a message received by the home agent is addressed to multiple mobile nodes. When the message is addressed to multiple mobile nodes, the home agent sends (208) the message to the foreign agent through the special communications channel.

  • Patent number: 6892172
Abstract: This system represents a customizable simulation model of an ATM/SONET Framer for System Level Verification and Performance-Characterization. An Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) data processing ASIC interfaces with a Media Access Control (MAC) device that presents an electrical data path interface, called Universal Test & Operations PHY Interface for ATM (UTOPIA), using ATM protocol on the ASIC side and simplex optical interfaces using Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) protocol on the network side. Such a MAC device, commonly referred to as ATM/SONET Framer, provides one Receive and one Transmit interface to the network at various SONET line rates such as 155.52 Mbps (OC-3), 622.08 Mbps (OC-12), 2488.32 Mbps (OC-48), etc. The ATM and the SONET interfaces operate on different clock frequencies and thus represent two distinct clocking domains. The data interchange between the two clocking domains is achieved via FIFO buffer elements and associated control and status signals.
