  • Patent number: 6618203
Abstract: In the developed state of the combiner 13, the first arm 19 extends along a vertical line passing the center of gravity G of the combiner 13, and the second arm 21 and the third arm 23 are aligned on and extended along a line which couples the rear end of the base member 17 and the other end 19b of the first arm 19 and tilts from the vertical direction toward the horizontal direction so that the combiner 13 is arranged in front of the eye point I at a tilting angle of reflecting the image light of the displayed image emitted from the display device of the projector unit 9 toward the eye point I of the driver 3. In such a configuration, the virtual image of the displayed image on the combiner which is to be visually recognized from the eye point can be visually recognized stable with no shaking in a vehicle which is susceptible to the vibration from the road face.

  • Patent number: 6580562
Abstract: In the on-vehicle display unit 5, an indicated image on an indication surface 51a of the display 51 is reflected by a semi-transparent mirror 55 to be directed above a dashboard 1 through a window 59b formed in a cover plate 59a disposed on an upper surface 1a of the dashboard 1. Thereby, the image is projected on a windscreen 3. The semi-transparent mirror 55 is moved in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle, so that the vertical position of a projection point P1 or P3 of the image S1 or S3 on the windscreen 3 is changed such that the image is superimposed over the foreground at which a driver of the vehicle is looking. The cover plate 59a is supported by a cover support construction 59c so as to be movable in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle relative to the upper surface 1a of the dashboard 1.

  • Patent number: 6542305
Abstract: The cover unit for a head-up display disposed in a vehicle opens and closes an opening which passes beams of an image emitted from a displaying device toward a screen. The displaying device is disposed in the dashboard, and the image is superposed on a foreground of the vehicle to be visible from a driver's eye. The screen is located outside the dashboard. The cover unit has an intercepting plate for interrupting a view line directed from the eye toward the inside of the dashboard in a standing state of the intercepting plate. The intercepting plate is movable between the standing state and a lying state. The cover unit further has a cover body movable between a closed state and an open state of the opening. The cover body is hinged to the intercepting plate so that the cover body is folded up with the intercepting plate at the open state and the cover body is extended together with the intercepting plate in the closed state.

  • Patent number: 6532113
Abstract: A display device for use in a vehicle is provided, by which an image for superposition displayed on a display source is projected on a windshield of a vehicle so that the foreground of the vehicle and a virtual image of the image for superposition are accurately seen together even when a seat position and a physique of a driver change and when a shape of the windshield changes. A light of inverse image for superposition displayed on a display surface 5a of a display unit 5 in a dashboard 1 in a vehicle is projected on a windshield 3 so that the driver sees the foreground visible through the windshield 3 together with a virtual image of the inverse image for superposition reflected on the windshield 3 in front of an eye point I, that is, a virtual image of the original image for superposition.

  • Publication number: 20030016451
Abstract: One of two images is selectively displayed on a single displaying screen of a display 11. The light of the displayed image is reflected from a mirror 13a and a half-mirror 13b toward a first reflective area 21a or second reflective area 21b of a translucent reflecting film 21 which is located in a field of view ahead of a driver's seat. An optical path is exchanged so that when the one image is displayed by the display, only the light of the one image reflected by the mirror 13a is incident on the first reflective area 21a, whereas when the other image is displayed by the display, only the light of the second image is incident on the second reflective area 21b. Two images are reflected from the translucent reflecting film 21 and visually recognized as a single virtual image ahead of a windshield 20 by a driver. In this configuration, a head-up display capable of displaying a larger image can be installed in a vehicle without being upsized.

  • Publication number: 20020167189
Abstract: The apparatus moves back a combining screen into a dashboard of a vehicle when the combining screen is not used. The combining screen is used for receiving an image emitted from a displaying device to superpose the image on a foreground of the vehicle such that the superposed image is visible for a driver's eye. The displaying device is disposed in the dashboard. The combining screen is positioned above the dashboard and inclined by a predetermined angle relative to an upward direction of the vehicle at its operational position. The apparatus has an outer moving means for moving the combining screen along a straight line between an operational position and an intermediate position and has an inner moving means for moving the combining screen along a curve between the intermediate position and a stored position in the dashboard. The intermediate position is located in the dashboard and above the displaying device.

  • Patent number: 6443573
Abstract: An on-vehicle display unit projects an image, which is displayed on a display in a dashboard, on a screen disposed outside the dashboard. The screen is transparent so that the foreground is visible through the screen with the image projected on the screen being superimposed over the foreground. A reflecting mirror is disposed in the dashboard for reflecting light emitted from the image displayed on the display toward the screen. A semi-transparent mirror is disposed in the dashboard between the display and the reflecting mirror. The semi-transparent mirror is able to pass partially and to reflect partially light emitted from the image on the display. An angle changing mechanism selectively changes the semi-transparent mirror relative to a longitudinal direction of the vehicle into a first inclination angle position or into a second inclination angle position.

  • Publication number: 20020109648
Abstract: A display source unit for a display device in a vehicle is provided, by which the driver is not given a physical or mental oppressive feeling to his or her head upon getting on and off the vehicle. The display source unit 9, which irradiates a light of a display image containing instrument information on a combiner 7 situated in front of an eye point I so that the irradiated light can be seen as a virtual image S from the eye point I, is provided with a cover member 13 consisting of: a front cover body 15 putting an optical element 21 for image magnification thereonto; and a rear cover body 17 hinged to the front cover body 15 with receiving a display device 23 therein. The cover member 13 is folded, thereby the light of the display image displayed on a display surface 23a of the display device 23 is reflected on a reflector 25 disposed in the cover member 13 to the optical element 21, passes through the optical element 21, and goes toward the eye point I after being reflected by the combiner 7.

  • Publication number: 20020084950
Abstract: A display device for use in a vehicle is provided, by which an image displayed on a display unit (display source) 5 is projected on a projection area E of a windshield 3 of the vehicle so that the foreground of the vehicle visible from an eye point I of the vehicle through the windshield 3 and a virtual image S of the image projected on the windshield 3, which is superposed upon the foreground, are seen together. The display device includes a correction member 6, disposed between the windshield 3 and the display source 5, for transmitting a light of the image therethrough so as to correct the image to be projected on the windshield 3 so that distortion of the image, which is seen from the eye point I, arising from non-plane of the projection area E of the windshield 3 is canceled out. The correction member 6 is formed by extracting a specific portion, which can cancel out the distortion of the image, from a lens having a curved surface having a single radius of curvature.
