  • Patent number: 5070323
Abstract: A display for a vehicle arranged such that displays indicating driving information such as engine speeds, water temperatures and so on are disposed in the portion other than the dash board of the vehicle whereby information form the displays can be visibly recognized form the driver's seat by projecting the same to a reflecting member disposed in the portion of the instrument panel in the dash board wherein semi-transmissable cover plates are provided on the front surfaces of the displays confornting the reflecting member as to reduce an influence of light from outside of vehicle through the windshield glass, to prevent reduction in the contrast of the display image for the purpose of obtaining a display image exhibiting excellent visibility and quality.

  • Patent number: 5056890
Abstract: A displaying apparatus for a vehicle to project a pattern to be displayed of an indicator on a half mirror disposed in front of a driver's seat such that a driver of the vehicle sees the pattern overlapping views outside a front windshield of the vehicle. The displaying apparatus comprises a projector for projecting the pattern. The projector includes the indicator, etc., and is received within a case which is provided to a ceiling in the interior of the vehicle to accommodate a room lamp. The half mirror is fitted to a fitting device installed on a dashboard of the vehicle such that an angle of the half mirror is freely set. The half mirror is set on the dashboard at an angle in a range between 100 and 120 deg. the angle being formed toward the front windshield from a horizontal line (0 deg) extending to the driver.

  • Patent number: 4999012
Abstract: A display apparatus for a vehicle comprises a unit for projecting display patterns provided by a display unit onto a projecting face in front of a driver's seat, the projecting unit having first and second display devices respectively forming virtual images in positions different from each other in front of the projecting face; and a unit for visually overlapping an outer landscape in front of a front glass and the virtual images of the display patterns provided by the projecting unit. The display apparatus further comprises a half mirror for making a display pattern of the first display device penetrate therethrough, and reflecting a display pattern of the second display device.

  • Patent number: 4986631
Abstract: An automotive display system for a vehicle comprises a display having a display screen, a reflecting mirror disposed with its reflecting surface facing the display screen of the display, and a prism disposed between the display and the reflecting mirror. Light rays emanated from the display enter the prism through a first surface of the prism, are transmitted through the prism and fall on the reflecting surface of the reflecting mirror and are reflected by the reflecting mirror. The light rays reflected by the reflecting mirror travel along a path coinciding with or nearly coinciding with the path of travel of the light rays incident on the reflecting surface of the reflecting mirror and are reflected again by the second surface of the prism toward the driver's eye. The light rays travel from the second surface of the prism to and from the reflecting mirror through a comparatively long optical path in a relatively small space for effective remote displaying.

Abstract: A display apparatus for a vehicle comprises a unit for projecting a display pattern provided by a display device onto a projecting face in front of a driver's seat; a unit for visually overlapping an outer landscape in front of a front glass and a virtual image of the display pattern provided by the projecting unit; a first mirror for reflecting light from the projecting unit; and a second mirror for reflecting light reflected from the first mirror on the side of the driver's seat such that the virtual image of the display pattern in front of the second mirror is visualized. The display apparatus for a vehicle may comprise another mirror unit for reflecting the light reflected from the first mirror towards the front glass, the reflected light from the second mirror being reflected by the front glass on the driver's seat side such that the virtual image of the display pattern in front of the front glass is visualized.

  • Patent number: 4925272
Abstract: An indication display unit for a vehicle comprises an indicating device provided in a dash board and a reflecting device provided thereon. An indicated image is reflected on the reflecting device so as to be visibly observed by a driver in superposition on an external front view through a windshield. A shifting device of the indicated image is provided for moving a projecting position thereof in accordance with the velocity of a vehicle. The indication display unit of the above structure can be divided in two types; a direct image projecting type and an indirect projecting type. The respective type can be defined as the indication display unit provided with an indicated image shifting device. By using the above display unit, the position of the displayed image to be observed can be shifted in accordance with the vehicle speed, whereby the visibly observable range by a driver can be greatly enlarged without moving the position of the driver's viewing point.
