  • Patent number: 6579203
Abstract: A joint has a first leaf having an inner gear and a second leaf having an external gear meshing with the inner gear. A driving wedge-shaped disk is non-rotatably attached to a shaft and rotatably received between the leaves. A block with an outer wedge-shaped resistant surface is formed on the driving wedge-shaped disk. At least one driven wedge-shaped segment is mounted around the driving wedge-shaped disk. Each segment has an inner wedge-shaped surface to mate with the outer wedge-shaped resistant surface of block. A wedge arrangement is arranged between a supporting base on the disk and each segment to raise the segment as the driving wedge-shaped disk is rotated with the shaft. Accordingly, the angle between the first leaf and the second leaf can be adjusted. In addition, the shaking of the second leaf with respect to the first leaf can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6522447
Abstract: Optical limiting device and method of preparation thereof. The optical limiting device includes a transparent substrate and at least one homogeneous layer of an RSA material in polyvinylbutyral attached to the substrate. The device may be produced by preparing a solution of an RSA material, preferably a metallophthalocyanine complex, and a solution of polyvinylbutyral, and then mixing the two solutions together to remove air bubbles. The resulting solution is layered onto the substrate and the solvent is evaporated. The method can be used to produce a dual tandem optical limiting device.

  • Patent number: 6514432
Abstract: The template-guided synthesis of water-soluble, chiral conducting polymer complexes is described. Synthesis of water-soluble polyaniline complexes is achieved by carefully controlling the experimental parameters such as; acid concentration, ionic strength, monomer/template ratio, total reagent concentration, and order of reagent addition. Chiral (helical) polyaniline complexes can be synthesized by addition of a chiral inducing agent (chiral acid) prior to polymerization, and the polyaniline helix can be controlled by the addition of the (+) or (−) form of the chiral acid. Moreover the quantity of chiral acid and the salt content has a significant impact on the degree of chirality in the final polymer complexes. The polyaniline and the template have been found to be mixed at the molecular level which results in chiral complexes that are robust through repeated doping and dedoping cycles.

  • Patent number: 6506861
Abstract: Olefins are polymerized by novel transition metal complexes of selected iminocarboxylate and iminoamido ligands, sometimes in the presence of cocatalysts such as alkylaluminum compounds or neutral Lewis acids. Olefins which may be (co)polymerized include ethylene, &agr;-olefins, and olefins containing polar groups such as olefinic esters for example acrylate esters. Also described are certain “Zwitterionic” transition metal complexes as polymerization catalysts for making polar copolymers. The resulting polymers are useful as thermoplastics and elastomers.
