  • Patent number: 9449019
Abstract: Peer-to-peer redundant file server system and methods include clients that determine a target storage provider to contact for a particular storage transaction based on a pathname provided by the filesystem and a predetermined scheme such as a hash function applied to a portion of the pathname. Servers use the same scheme to determine where to store relevant file information so that the clients can locate the file information. The target storage provider may store the file itself and/or may store metadata that identifies one or more other storage providers where the file is stored. A file may be replicated in multiple storage providers, and the metadata may include a list of storage providers from which the clients can select (e.g., randomly) in order to access the file.

  • Patent number: 9426137
Abstract: Authentication involves collecting information relating to a user's behavior relative to a mobile device carried by the user, over a number of time periods that correspond to each other. An authentication technique includes processing the collected information to generate baseline data representing typical user behavior. The authentication technique includes collecting additional information relating to the user's behavior relative to the mobile device over another time period that corresponds to the time periods used to generate the baseline data. The additional information relating to the user's behavior is compared to the baseline data, and a difference between the additional information and the baseline data is determined. An authentication procedure is then applied based on the difference. The authentication may be performed by a mobile device such as a smartphone.

  • Publication number: 20160164322
Abstract: A charger and a mobile device exchange messages indicating that high wattage charging is supported over a bidirectional communication channel. After the message exchange, the charger sends a controlled output voltage and current to the mobile device over a cable connected between the charger and the mobile device. The mobile device takes an input voltage measurement that corresponds to the controlled output voltage after being passed through the cable. The charger or mobile device may then calculate a resistance of the cable based on a difference between the controlled output voltage and the input voltage measurement. Based on the resistance of the cable, the controlled voltage and current used to charge a battery of the mobile device is adjusted in order to avoid exceeding capacity of the cable.

  • Publication number: 20160164883
Abstract: To virtually transfer subscriber identity module (“SIM”) credentials from an active device to an inactive device in order to share carrier network access, temporary identifiers and SIM credentials are transferred using secure connections and an optional public-private key pair with encryption at the transport layer. In an example, a carrier identification (“ID”) server receives a temporary identifier, such as a temporary international mobile subscriber identity (“TIMSI”), from an inactive device via a carrier network. The carrier ID server authenticates the inactive device using the TIMSI by issuing a network challenge. Next, the carrier ID server verifies with an active device associated with the inactive device that the active device distributed the TIMSI. After authenticating and verifying with both devices, the carrier ID server activates the inactive device by allowing the TIMSI to behave as virtual SIM credentials on the carrier network.
