  • Publication number: 20190199785
Abstract: An approach is provided for determining availabilities of servers in multiple tiers of a workload. A Monte Carlo approach is performed on a non-linear program resulting from availability and resource constraints being added to an optimization problem which includes a workload availability requirement, resource requirements for redundancy groups (RGs) in the workload, sets of server sizes, and sets of availability categories. Feasible solutions to the optimization problem are generated and each includes a cloud site hosting the workload, a number of servers in an RG, server sizes of the servers in the RG, categories of availability of the servers in the RG, and a number of servers in the RG that are required to be active for the RG to be available. A cost of achieving the requirement of the availability of the workload is minimized by performing a Pareto analysis of the feasible solutions.

  • Publication number: 20190199738
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide an approach for providing network intrusion detection and prevention service (NIDPS) capabilities to a microservice in a networked computing environment. In an embodiment, a set of rules for accessing the microservice is retrieved. A NIDPS microservice is created within the environment of the microservice fabric that supports the microservice using the set of rules. The NIDPS microservice is established as a proxy communications destination for communications to the microservice such that communications that are intended for the microservice are instead rerouted to the NIDPS microservice. These communications are filtered by the NIDPS microservice according to the set of rules (e.g., to remove any communications that are determined to be threats).

  • Patent number: 10320706
Abstract: A management server and method for performing resource management operations in a distributed computer system utilizes interference scores for clients executing different workloads to create an interference affinity-type rule for at least some of the clients contending for a resource based on the interference scores for that resource. The interference affinity-type rule can then be used to recommend a target host computer to place a client.

  • Patent number: 10318323
Abstract: A management server and method for performing resource management operations in a distributed computer system utilizes interference scores for clients executing different workloads, including a client to be placed in the distributed computer system, as utilization values of resources, which are assigned continuously variable weights to produce weighted resource utilization values. The weighted resource utilization values are used to generate overall selection scores for host computers of the distributed compute system, which are then used to recommend a target host computer among the host computers of the distributed computer system to place the client.

  • Publication number: 20190173883
Abstract: Techniques for provisioning access data may include receiving, by a first application installed on a communication device, user input selecting an account to provision to a second application installed on the communication device. The first application may invoke the second application and send a session identifier (ID) to the second application. The second application may send a user ID associated with the second application, a device ID, and the session ID to the first application. The first application may then generate encrypted provisioning request data and send the encrypted provisioning request data to the second application. The second application may send the encrypted provisioning request data to a remote server computer to request access data that can be used to access a resource. The second application may receive the access data provided by the remote server computer based on validation of the encrypted provisioning request data.

  • Publication number: 20190087457
Abstract: An approach for implementing function semantic based partition-wise SQL execution and partition pruning in a data processing system is provided. The system receives a query directed to a range-partitioned table and determines if operation key(s) of the query include(s) function(s) over the table partitioning key(s). If so, the system obtains a set of values corresponding to each partition by evaluating the function(s) on a low bound and/or a high bound table partitioning key value corresponding to the partition. The system may then compare the sets of values corresponding to different partitions and determine whether to aggregate results obtained by executing the query over the partitions based on the comparison. The system may also determine whether to prune any partitions from processing based on a set of correlations between the set of values for each partition and predicate(s) of the query including function(s) over the table partitioning key(s).

  • Publication number: 20180288144
Abstract: Variety of approaches to provide an automatic group creation based or an organization hierarchy as described. A hosted service initiates operation(s) to automatically create a group upon detecting a new organization hierarchy or a utilization of a feature of a hosted service by an existing organization hierarchy. Next, group members are determined based on the organization hierarchy. The group is created that includes the group members to coordinate services within the hosted service based on the organization hierarchy. Furthermore, an attribute of the created group is defined. A resource is also generated for the created group. The resource includes a notebook, a work space, a collaboration site, and/or a planner. The created group is deployed to coordinate the services. The resource is managed through the services.

  • Publication number: 20180244299
Abstract: A vehicle is able to be set to operate in a factory mode (as opposed to a normal mode) in which certain features are disabled, such as an alarm system, a power liftgate, etc. This allows assembly workers to assemble, test, and calibrate the vehicle without various systems in the vehicle being undesirably activated. While in the factory mode, the vehicle can accomplish multiple ignition on/off cycles while being tested or driven between stations. A steering column and connected steering wheel are provided in the vehicle, and are situated between an instrument panel and a front seat. In response to the ignition completing an on/off cycle, a controller commands a motor to move the steering wheel and steering column to a predetermined position that is based on a visibility of the instrument panel relative to the steering wheel and steering column.
