  • Patent number: 9894692
Abstract: For transmitting data between a node (100) of a mobile network and a further node (200), the further node sends downlink data packets to the node (100) of the mobile network. The downlink data packets carry a destination address corresponding to a user equipment (10) connected to the mobile network. For implementing an inband data channel between the node (100) of the mobile network and the further node (200), the further node (200) inserts data destined to the node (100) of the mobile network into at least one of the downlink data packets and marks this downlink data packet as including data destined to the node (100) of the mobile network. The node (100) of the mobile network receives the downlink data packets from the further node (200) and identities, on the basis of the marking, the least one downlink data packet including data destined to the node (100) of the mobile network. The node (100) of the mobile network then extracts the data from the identified downlink data packet.

  • Patent number: 9883359
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing both Mobile Terminated, MT, and Mobile Originated, MO, circuit switched (CS) services such as Short Message Service, SMS, services in networks utilizing CS Fallback and CSoLTE-I architectures. An extended SGs interface referred to as SGs+ is implemented between a Mobility Management Entity, MME, in an SAE core network and a Mobile Switching Center Server, MSC-S. The SGs+ interface supports transmission of upper layer CS packet data units while utilizing either connectionless or connection-oriented Signaling Connection Control Part, SCCP, operation. The non access stratum, NAS, signaling support between the User Equipment, UE, and the MME is extended to provide support for both MT SMS and MO SMS service.

  • Patent number: 9872162
Abstract: Techniques for distributing and using application codes and discovery filters in device-to-device (D2D) wireless devices. An example method for an announcing device includes receiving, from a coordinating node, first and second application codes and associated timing information. The associated timing information defines respective first and second validity intervals for the first and second application codes, such that the first and second validity intervals are at least partly non-overlapping. The method further comprises subsequently transmitting, during the first validity interval, one or more discovery messages that include or are based on the first application code, and transmitting, during the second validity interval, one or more discovery messages that include or are based on the second application code. Corresponding techniques for monitoring devices are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9801042
Abstract: In one aspect there is provided a method performed by a first location management entity, LME (e.g., an MME or an SGSN), for providing location information to a location server (e.g., a GMLC). The method includes the first LME receiving from the location server a first request for location information pertaining to a terminal. The method also includes the first LME determining whether the terminal is in a connected state. The method further includes the first LME, in response to determining that the terminal is in a connected state, performing a method comprising: i) transmitting a stop paging message to a second LME; ii) obtaining the requested location information pertaining to the terminal; and iii) transmitting the obtained location information to the location server.

  • Patent number: 9756009
Abstract: A method and system for forwarding information to a device in a communication network are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes selecting a serving node to which to send a request. The selected serving node is one of plurality of serving nodes, each of the plurality of serving nodes supporting a different access technology. The request is to transmit one of a short messaging service, SMS, message and trigger information. The request includes a list of the plurality of nodes. The method further includes sending the request to the selected serving node via a translation interface associated with the selected serving node. The translation interface is adapted to use a protocol that corresponds to the access technology of the selected serving node. If the selected serving node cannot reach the device, the request is forwarded to another serving node in the list of serving nodes in the request.

  • Patent number: 9699644
Abstract: A UE has a subscription to a Home Public Land Mobile Network (H-PLMN) and has a subscription to an Alternative Roaming Provider (ARP) stored in a subscription database. The ARP is adapted to provide a communication service to the subscriber if the subscriber roams into a Visited Public Land Mobile Network (V-PLMN) which is different from the H-PLMN. The method includes registering the UE at a control node of the V-PLMN and sending, by the control node, a request for subscription data to the subscription database. The method further includes: sending, by the subscription database, an indication of the ARP to the control node; generating, by the control node, network identification information, based on the indication of the ARP and the indication of the V-PLMN; and sending, by the control node, the network identification information to the UE.

  • Patent number: 9674750
Abstract: In a mobile network with a plurality of access networks, a control node controls access of a user equipment to that one of the access networks which is currently used by the user equipment. The control node determines an access capability of the user equipment in the access network. The access capability includes whether an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) voice over Packet Switched (PS) session is supported. The control node provides an indication of the determined access capability to a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) associated with the user equipment. The indication may then be retrieved from the HSS and used to control termination of a connection to the user equipment.

  • Patent number: 9402171
Abstract: A wireless communication device can provide an indication that its registration in a circuit-switched domain of a network is intended only for a short message service that is included in or accompanies a registration request, such as a combined registration for both the CS domain and a packet-switched (PS) domain. The device can also change a conventional order of its domain registrations, e.g., by performing a PS-domain registration before a CS-domain registration, when it will send SMS messages over the PS domain. The device can indicate its intention to use or support for SMS over the PS domain and/or be informed about network support for SMS over the PS domain before the UE attempts a network registration.
