  • Patent number: 9465647
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention includes a processor that has an on-die storage such as a static random access memory to store an architectural state of one or more threads that are swapped out of architectural state storage of the processor on entry to a system management mode (SMM). In this way communication of this state information to a system management memory can be avoided, reducing latency associated with entry into SMM. Embodiments may also enable the processor to update a status of executing agents that are either in a long instruction flow or in a system management interrupt (SMI) blocked state, in order to provide an indication to agents inside the SMM. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 9466043
Abstract: Embodiments may include a forecasting component that, for each of different service levels offered to customers, generates a projection of the quantity of shipments to be shipped according to that service level during a time period. The forecasting component may be configured to, based on an aggregate quantity of shipments projected to be shipped, modify the projected quantities of shipments for the multiple service levels. The forecasting component may, for each service level, receive information specifying a distribution of different shipment methods that are projected to be utilized to ship shipments of a particular priority designation to meet requirements of that service level. The forecasting component may, based on the distribution for each service level and the modified projected quantity of shipments for each service level, generate a forecast specifying quantities of shipments that are to be shipped during the time period according to each of the different shipment methods.

  • Patent number: 9467420
Abstract: An approach for regional firewall clustering for optimal state-sharing of different sites in a virtualized/networked (e.g., cloud) computing environment is provided. In a typical embodiment, each firewall in a given region is informed of its peer firewalls via a registration process with a centralized server. Each firewall opens up an Internet protocol (IP)-based communication channel to each of its peers in the region to share state table information. This allows for asymmetrical firewall flows through the network and allows routing protocols to ascertain the best path to a given destination without having to take firewall placement into consideration.

  • Patent number: 9466659
Abstract: Wafer-level methods of forming circuit elements, such as multilayer inductors or transformers, are provided. The methods include, for instance: forming, in at least one layer above a substrate, at least one conductive portion of the circuit element; providing an uncured polymer-dielectric material surrounding, at least in part, and overlying the conductive portion(s) of the element; partially curing the polymer-dielectric material to obtain a partially-hardened, polymer-dielectric material; and polishing the partially-hardened, polymer-dielectric material down to the conductive portion(s). The polishing planarizes the partially-hardened, polymer-dielectric material and exposes an upper surface of the conductive portion(s) to facilitate forming at least one other conductive portion of the element above and in electrical contact with the conductive portion(s). After polishing, curing of the polymer-dielectric material is completed.

  • Publication number: 20160283429
Abstract: A system-on-a-chip, such as a logical PHY, may be divided into hard IP blocks with fixed routing, and soft IP blocks with flexible routing. Each hard IP block may provide a fixed number of lanes. Using p hard IP blocks, where each block provides n data lanes, h=n*p total hard IP data lanes are provided. Where the system design calls for k total data lanes, it is possible that k?h, so that [k/n] hard IP blocks provide h=n*p available hard IP data lanes. In that case, h?k lanes may be disabled. In cases where lane reversals occur, such as between hard IP and soft IP, bowtie routing may be avoided by the use of a multiplexer-like programmable switch within the soft IP.

  • Publication number: 20160285624
Abstract: In an example, a linear feedback shift register (LFSR) provides pseudorandom bit sequences (PRBSs) to an interconnect for training, testing, and scrambling purposes. The interconnect may include a state machine, with states including LOOPBACK, CENTERING, RECENTERING, and ACTIVE states, among others. The interconnect is permitted to move from “CENTERING” to “LOOPBACK” via a sideband signal. In LOOPBACK, CENTERING, and RECENTERING, PRBSs are used for training and testing purposes to electrically characterize and test the interconnect, and to locate a midpoint for a reference voltage Vref. A unique, noncorrelated PRBS is provided to each lane, calculated using one common output bit.

  • Patent number: 9454626
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for solving an optimization problem using a constraints solver. A set of constraints that correspond to the optimization problem can be generated. Next, a set of upper bound constraints can be added to the set of constraints, wherein the set of upper bound constraints imposes an upper bound on one or more variables that are used in an objective function of the optimization problem. Next, the embodiments can iteratively perform the following set of operations on a computer: (a) solve the set of constraints using the constraints solver; (b) responsive to the constraints solver returning a solution, decrease the upper bound; and (c) responsive to the constraints solver indicating that no solutions exist or that the constraints solver timed out, increase the upper bound. The solution with the lowest upper bound value can be outputted as the optimal solution for the optimization problem.
