  • Patent number: 8838919
Abstract: A method and system is provided for measuring, guaranteeing, and reducing replication data lag time between a primary system and one or more standby systems. Each standby system determines the lag time between the generation of a consistent version of data on the primary system and the time that the consistent version is applied on the standby system. Applications can request and be guaranteed to receive data from a standby system that is identical to the state on the primary system at the time of the query, or lag the primary state only by a maximum tolerable amount. A standby system may also publish a service that guarantees a maximum lag time and withdraw the service offer when the actual lag time exceeds the guaranteed lag time. Implications for implementing synchronous and asynchronous replication as well as performance optimizations are also discussed.

  • Publication number: 20140258241
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for low loss database backup and recovery. The method commences by transmitting, by a first server to a third server, a copy of a database snapshot backup, the transmitting commencing at a first time. Then capturing, by the first server, a stream of database redo data, the capturing commencing before or upon transmitting the database snapshot backup, and continuing until a third time. The stream of database redo data is received by an intermediate server after which the intermediate server transmits the stream of database redo data to the third server. Now, the third server has the database snapshot backups and the database redo data. The third server can send to a fourth server all or portion of the database redo data to be applied to the copy of the database snapshot backup restored there to create a restored database.

  • Patent number: 8826218
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for optimizing a circuit design by using a numerical solver. Some embodiments construct a set of lower bound expressions for a parameter that is used in an approximation of an objective function. Next, the embodiments evaluate the set of lower bound expressions to obtain a set of lower bound values. The embodiments then determine a maximum lower bound value from the set of lower bound values. Next, while solving a gate sizing problem using the numerical solver, the embodiments evaluate the approximate objective function and the partial derivatives of the approximate objective function by using the maximum lower bound value of the parameter. The maximum lower bound value of this parameter determines the accuracy of the approximation of the objective function.

  • Patent number: 8825426
Abstract: In general, the invention relates to an algorithm and process for automated and/or continuous calibration of magnetic sensor, for example such as a sensor installed in a mobile positioning system handset. According to certain aspects, the calibration process can use the normal motion of the handset such that all measurement data from the three orthogonal axes of sensor when exposed to Earth's magnetic field is collected. According to still further aspects, the process includes fitting measurement data to an ellipsoid that characterizes the actual magnetic field measurements from a magnetic sensor, so that anomalies such as hard iron effect, soft iron effect and scale factors can be extracted and/or corrected by comparison to a sphere represented by magnetic field data from a model at the sensor's location.
