  • Patent number: 6781543
Abstract: The direction-of arrival estimation by means of a subspace-based algorithm such as MUSIC or ESPRIT is formed by using reduced-bandwidth signals as compared with communication signal waves. The narrower-bandwidth signals is obtained by each mobile telephone transmitting a modulated version of a lower-transmission rate test signal as well as a communication signal wave or by band-pass filtering the received communication signal waves in a base station. A direction-of-arrival estimation is formed by using a reduced number of signals for the direction-of arrival estimation. The number of direction-of-arrival estimating signals is reduced by discarding a part of the received signals, by multiplexing the received signals by the sub-array and forming a direction-of arrival estimation for each sub-array, or by using an additional array antenna having a reduced number of elements.

  • Publication number: 20040097215
Abstract: A transmission and reception system utilizes primarily a combination of punctured-convolution-coding and diversity. Degradation in likelihood of certain data is prevented by adopting the steps of (a) punctured-convolution-coding series of identical information data by using a plurality of different puncturing patterns, (b) diversity-transmitting each of different series of punctured data obtained in step (a) as diversity branches, (c) depuncturing the series of punctured data individually in a receiving device by using identical puncturing patterns and as used in the transmission side, and (d) combining and convolution-decoding them thereafter.

  • Publication number: 20040088468
Abstract: A USB cable connects to a USB connector in an electrical/electronic product and a USB connector in a separate type USB unit so that a USB controller and a conversion circuit are connected. The conversion circuit converts a USB signal into an external interface signal which is transmitted to and received from a peripheral device. The external interface signal is transmitted to and received from the peripheral device through an external interface connector. The minimum number of interface connector is selected from various external interface connectors through which the external interface signal is transmitted to and received from the peripheral device. By connecting expansion connectors 5 and 6 in a USB unit and those in another USB unit, the USB signal is transmitted and received between the USB unit and another USB unit.

  • Publication number: 20040062525
Abstract: A video processing system which realizes high efficiency and improved service quality in video production, including high-speed extraction of scenes related to a particular subject and compilation of a personalized video product. Video recording units are placed along a given course, each of which stores video of moving objects that is captured by a fixed camera, together with time stamps that indicate at what time each part of the video was taken. At checkpoints on the course, time measurement units measure checkpoint passage time of every passing moving object and store checkpoint time records including the measured checkpoint passage times and identifiers of individual moving objects. A video authoring unit searches the stored video data to find and extract scenes of a particular moving object, using the checkpoint time records in association with time stamps in the video data, and compiles the extracted scenes into a personalized video product.

  • Patent number: 6693883
Abstract: A TDMA radio terminal comprises a transmitter portion and a receiver portion. A reference signal is launched in the transmitter portion while tuning the receiver portion. At the same time, an internal delay counter is started. The counter counts clock pulses till the reference signal returns through the receiver portion. Letting this pulse count be Nd, a transmission wait time is Nt−Nd. Nt is a transmit timing at the antenna. The Nd counting operation may be triggered by a power on or a signal from a controller. A corresponding method for determining the transmission wait time in the production side is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6572951
Abstract: A printing sheet which prevents setoff while transferring a sufficient quantity of ink and maintains necessary dot uniformity can be obtained by ensuring characteristics that the centerline average roughness showing the larger value is 1.0-3.5 &mgr;m and the ratio of centerline average obtained by dividing the larger value by the smaller value is less than 1.15 where said values are chosen at the point where the difference between the centerline average roughness in a certain direction and the centerline average roughness at right angles to said direction is maximal. Further, the abovementioned quality is further improved by appropriately ensuring that the oil absorbability is more than 4 mg/cm2 and less than 7 mg/cm2 when the contact time between the oil component having a surface tension of 27-30 mN/m at 20° C. and the printing sheet is 5 seconds and/or that the median pore diameter is 1.7-3.5 &mgr;m, in addition to the abovementioned characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6531991
Abstract: A hemispherical dielectric resonator is arranged on a metal substrate to make a flat surface of the hemispherical dielectric resonator contact with the metal substrate, and a dielectric wave-guiding channel is connected with a curved side surface of the hemispherical dielectric resonator. Therefore, a dielectric resonance antenna in which the hemispherical dielectric resonator and the dielectric wave-guiding channel are placed on the same metal substrate is obtained. A signal transmitting through the dielectric wave-guiding channel is fed in the hemispherical dielectric resonator, the hemispherical dielectric resonator is resonated, and an electromagnetic wave is radiated. Therefore, the dielectric resonance antenna functions as a wave radiation device.

  • Patent number: 6529745
Abstract: A mobile station transmitted signal received at array antenna 11 is converted into an intermediate frequency signal in frequency conversion section 12, and converted into a digital signal in analog-digital conversion section 13. Arrival direction estimating section 15 estimates the number of mobile stations and directions thereof by processing the digital signal. Arrival direction tracking section 16 estimates a direction of a mobile station by sequential processing using an estimated result in arrival direction estimating section 15. Beam forming means 17 forms an antenna radiation beam to a direction of the estimated result in arrival direction tracking section 16.

  • Publication number: 20020171800
Abstract: A improved liquid crystal display device including two substrates each having transparent electrode thereon disposed in parallel while keeping a predetermined gap by means of pillar-shaped spacers and a liquid crystal held between said first and second substrates is proposed. In the liquid crystal display device, density or volume of the number of the pillar-shaped spacers provided in the off-display area is higher than those of a density of the number of said pillar-shaped spacers provided in the display area. This change is made continuously or stepwise along areas. The spacers are preferably disposed so that a contact area between the spacer and a rubbing cloth during the rubbing process is minimized, or so that an orientation defective area caused starting from the spacer does not extend into the pixel area, or so that a plurality of spacers are disposed along a flow of liquid crystal from filling port into the gap between the first and second substrate.
