  • Patent number: 7194744
Abstract: A method and a system for dynamically specifying exceptions and exception handlers for an application written in any computer language, which has exception handling facility, are described. The present decouples the exception handling logic from the application and thereby can be used to alter the behavior of the program/module/application as well as to define new types of exceptions at runtime. The decoupling of the exception handler logic eliminates the language dependence of the application and further helps in customizing the behavior of the application when they are being deployed in new environments. Moreover dynamic exception handling is not operating system dependent.

  • Publication number: 20070053454
Abstract: In estimating and compensating impairments of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, a first estimation is obtained by evaluating and comparing received training symbols with transmitted training symbols. A second estimation is obtained by evaluating and comparing a first portion of received payload symbols with estimated payload symbols. A final estimation is obtained by combining the first and second estimations. Compensation of a second portion of the payload symbols is obtained by using the final estimation, while compensation of the first portion of the payload symbols is obtained by using the first estimation. The current method and apparatus, ideal for low rate systems, disclosed herein allows for required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance less then 0.2 dB away from the best achievable performance without the introduction of complex or expensive hardware.

  • Publication number: 20070054642
Abstract: Automatic Gain Control (AGC) system for multi-channel signals attenuates an incoming multi-channel signal by providing a gain. The system further adjusts each individual channel, of the multi-channel signal, by supplying a second gain if needed. The AGC system is designed to ensure a received signal power is at an optimal level for analog to digital conversion or any other form of signal processing. The system also enables elimination of mid-packet gain adjustments.

  • Patent number: 7187734
Abstract: A method of correctly estimating the frequency offset when the CPE modem has already acquired and is tracking the OFDM burst boundaries in an OFDM-based, wireless communication system. CPS data in an OFDM-based, wireless communication system is modulated as QPSK data in the training tones of the data burst. As long as some bursts have the CPS data modulation and some bursts do not have the CPS data modulation, the CPS data can be recovered. A slip results when there is a linear phase difference across the tones (after the FFT) between the current and the previous burst. This linear phase difference is generally taken care of by the channel estimation obtained using the pilot tones. This phase difference is however, now compensated for correct frequency offset estimation which occurs before the channel estimation and CPS decoding steps.

  • Patent number: 7186571
Abstract: A magnetic tunnel junction device with a compositionally modulated electrode and a method of fabricating a magnetic tunnel junction device with a compositionally modulated electrode are disclosed. An electrode in electrical communication with a data layer of the magnetic tunnel junction device includes a high resistivity region that has a higher resistivity than the electrode. As a result, a current flowing through the electrode generates joule heating in the high resistivity region and that joule heating increases a temperature of the data layer and reduces a coercivity of the data layer. Consequently, a magnitude of a switching field required to rotate an alterable orientation of magnetization of the data layer is reduced. The high resistivity region can be fabricated using a plasma oxidation, a plasma nitridation, a plasma carburization, or an alloying process.
