Abstract: A system for synchronizing a wireless receiver is provided. The system includes a first antenna (101a) and a second antenna (101b) to receive wireless signals containing data packets. The system includes one or more analyzer components (156) operable to determine correlation metrics based on at least a portion of the first received signal and a portion of the second received signal. The system further includes a synchronization component (158) operable to use the correlation metrics to determine a preferred correlation metric for synchronization by the wireless receiver of the first and second received signals to decode the data packet. A method for synchronizing a receiver of two wireless signals is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6972843
Abstract: A wafer may be aligned with an imaging plate including an alignment grating with a pitch P. A pupil filter in the pupil plane of the optical system may be used so that the periodicity of the intensity of light from the alignment grating is less than P at the wafer plane. Thus, an alignment pattern on the wafer having a pitch smaller than the pitch of the alignment grating may be used. For example, the intensity periodicity at the wafer plane may be P/2. In an implementation, a pupil filter may be sized and positioned to block a zero-th order maximum of light transmitted through the alignment grating at the pupil plane. The pupil filter may be sized and positioned to allow first order maxima of the light to pass. The alignment system may be used with transmission or reflection optics.

  • Patent number: 6973646
Abstract: This invention describes a method and several variants for compiling programs or components of programs in a mixed static and dynamic environment, so as to reduce the amount of time and memory spent in run-time compilation, or to exercise greater control over testing of the executable code for the program, or both. The invention involves generating persistent code images prior to program execution based on static compilation or dynamic compilation from a previous run, and then, adapting those images during program execution. We describe a method for generating auxiliary information in addition to the executable code that is recorded in the persistent code image. Further, we describe a method for checking the validity of those code images, adapting those images to the new execution context, and generating new executable code to respond to dynamic events, during program execution.

  • Publication number: 20050265454
Abstract: A motion estimation algorithm finds the best match for a given block or macroblock so that the resulting error signal has very low energy level which is computed, for e.g., by the SAD method. The motion estimation algorithm also provides for an optional sub-pixel level estimation and an inter4v search, and allows for restricting the number of searches for a Frame-frame ME (motion estimation) using Top-Top and Bottom-Bottom field MEs. The algorithm provides for a selective early exit and enables selecting a suitable search area with N candidate points (4 to 8) for starting the search. The search is conducted progressively till a minimum error signal (low energy level signal) is reached. The candidate points for search may be in a diamond shaped configuration, and there may be a plurality of successive diamond configurations, the number of which is configurable. The invention has application in MPEG-4 and H.264 standards.

  • Publication number: 20050265465
Abstract: In MIMO wireless communications employing LMMSE receiver, the symbols transmitted through a transmit antenna are estimated at the receiver in the presence of interference consisting of two main components: one due to the additive noise and the other due to (interfering) symbols transmitted via the remaining antennas. This has been shown to hamper the performance of a communication system resulting in incorrect symbol decisions, particularly at low SNR. IMMSE has been devised as a solution to cope with this problem; In IMMSE processing, the symbols sent via each transmit antenna are decoded iteratively. In each stage of processing, the received signal is updated by removing the contribution of symbols detected in the previous iterations. In principle, this reduces the additive interference in which the desired symbols are embedded in. Therefore, the interference level should reduce monotonically as one goes down in processing order.

  • Publication number: 20050265561
Abstract: A method and apparatus to generate harmonics. The method of generating the harmonics includes selecting a first coefficient and a second coefficient according to a result of comparing a level of an input frequency signal and a level of a feedback signal, adding a result of multiplying the level of the input frequency signal by the first coefficient and a result of multiplying the level of the feedback signal by the second coefficient to calculate the level of an output frequency signal, delaying the output frequency signal having the calculated level by a predetermined sample, and transmitting a resulting level of the delayed output frequency signal as the level of the feedback signal.

  • Publication number: 20050259830
Abstract: A noise enhancement system for an automobile utilizes a single input of engine speed to derive a control signal used to drive a speaker. The speaker generates sounds that enhance or replicate the desired sounds from the engine. The output from the speaker is crafted dependent on the vehicle operating conditions. Instead of multiple transducers and inputs the noise enhancement system of this invention utilizes the single input of engine RPM engine speed. By utilizing only engine speed, the noise enhancement system is cost effective and significantly less complex.

  • Publication number: 20050262510
Abstract: A method for designing a multi-threaded processing operation that includes, e.g., multimedia encoding/decoding, uses an architecture having multiple processors and optional hardware accelerators. The method includes the steps of: identifying a desired chronological sequence of processing stages for processing input data including identifying interdependencies of said processing stages; allotting each said processing sage to a processor; staggering the processing to accommodate the interdependencies; selecting a processing operation based on said allotting to arrive at a subset of possible pipelines that offer low average processing time; and, choosing one design pipeline from said subset to result in overall timing reduction to complete said processing operation. The invention provides a multi-threaded processing pipeline that is applicable in a System-on-Chip (SoC) using a DSP and shared resources such as DMA controller and on-chip memory, for increasing the throughput.

  • Publication number: 20050248047
Abstract: A method for compression molding a thermoset article includes providing first and second movable mold dies providing a mold cavity. A thermosettable workpiece is placed on the first mold die. The workpiece is heated to a gel. At least one of the mold dies is moved toward the other to compress the workpiece between first and second die surfaces. A first mold clamp pressure is applied to the workpiece at a predetermined pressurization to shape the workpiece. The workpiece is cured into a thermoset article. An electrical property of the workpiece is measured as a function of time. A gelation period during which the electrical property changes in value until reaching a turning point corresponding to a gelation peak value is detected. A gelation peak time of the workpiece is determined, the gelation peak time coinciding with the gelation peak value.
