  • Patent number: 9448731
Abstract: An illustrative approach to managing snapshots streamlines how and when snapshots are generated in a storage management system, such that fewer snapshots may be generated without diminishing the scope of data protection. A novel unified-snapshot storage policy may govern snapshots for any number of subclients. A unified-snapshot job based on the unified-snapshot storage policy enables the illustrative storage management system to automatically discover relevant components and generate at most one snapshot per target logical unit number (“LUN”) in a storage array. Each snapshot may comprise the data of any number of subclients and/or clients in the storage management system. Accordingly, one unified-snapshot job may yield a minimum but sufficient number of snapshots comprising data of all subclients associated with the governing unified-snapshot storage policy. An enhanced storage manager may manage the unified-snapshot jobs.

  • Patent number: 9443662
Abstract: A method of forming an ordered nanorods array in a confined space is used to form a high surface area device where an ensemble of parallel trenches has micrometer dimensions for the width and depth of the trenches, which are decorated with crystalline nanowires radiating from the sidewalls and bases of the trenches. The high surface area device is formed by depositing a conformal crystalline seed coating in the trenches, forming microchannels from these trenches by placing a barrier layer on the open surface of the trenches, contacting the conformal coating with a crystal precursor solution that is caused to flow through the microchannels. In an embodiment, a very high surface area electrode is constructed with ZnO nanowires radiating from the sidewalls and base of trenches formed on a silicon substrate. The device can be a dye-sensitized solar cell.

  • Publication number: 20160260319
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to connect a control device such as a mobile phone to a display device. The control device can be used to operate (control) an application executing at a server and/or at the display device. In an embodiment, the display device initiates a connection request to the server via a network. The server then generates a unique code, and transmits the code to the display device. The code can be displayed as a matrix barcode. The control device scans the matrix barcode and decodes it. The control device then initiates a connection request to the server and transmits the code to the server. A matching engine connects the control device to the display device corresponding to the code. The connections are preferably made via a full-duplex Internet connection protocol, such as the WebSocket protocol, to facilitate low latency network connections.

  • Patent number: 9436534
Abstract: A method and a system have been disclosed for the preemptive detection of occurrence of one or more faulty conditions based on the usage of one or more resources. The faulty conditions are detected during an execution of a program; the program includes at least one function. The method includes initializing Application Program Interfaces (APIs) across the at least one function. After this, calls to the APIs used within a namespace of the program are intercepted. The interception is performed by the at least one function through extended method classes. Thereafter, the usage of the resources for the at least function intercepting the APIs is checked against a corresponding predetermined threshold limit. Once the usage of the resources is checked, context of the usage of the resources is identified based on a predefined knowledge. Subsequently, the occurrence of the faulty conditions is determined based on the identification.

  • Patent number: 9405932
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for dynamically maintaining user centric data. For example, a data provider app may have knowledge about user centric data associated with a user (e.g., a social network app may have contact information for a social network friend of the user). A user centric profile may be defined for the user centric data based upon information provided by the data provider app (e.g., a contact card may be generated for the social network friend). Responsive to receiving a request for the user centric profile from a requestor app (e.g., an event planning app), the user centric profile may be exposed to the user but not to the requestor app for security and/or privacy purposes. For example, an operating system may present at least some of the user centric profile within an operating system user interface.

  • Patent number: 9405763
Abstract: Content-aware systems and methods for improving de-duplication, or single instancing, in storage operations. In certain examples, backup agents on client devices parse application-specific data to identify data objects that are candidates for de-duplication. The backup agents can then insert markers or other indictors in the data that identify the location(s) of the particular data objects. Such markers can, in turn, assist a de-duplication manager to perform object-based de-duplication and increase the likelihood that like blocks within the data are identified and single instanced. In other examples, the agents can further determine if a data object of one file type can or should be single-instanced with a data object of a different file type. Such processing of data on the client side can provide for more efficient storage and back-end processing.
