  • Patent number: 7064595
Abstract: The differential input receiver provides constant symmetrical hysteresis over a wide input signal range. The differential input receiver includes a pair of complementary differential comparators having common input terminals, a pair of series connected complementary current mirrors each having source terminals driven by the output terminals of the corresponding differential comparator, a pair of transistors connected in series across each differential pair transistor in each differential comparator to form a potential divider across it, and a pair of series connected inverting buffers connected to a common output of the differential comparators to provide the final output. The individual buffer outputs are fed back to the control terminals of the series connected transistors in a manner that provides positive feedback thereby providing equal rise-time, fall-delay and transition times in the output signal.

  • Patent number: 6963833
Abstract: The invention relates to improving parameter estimation and speech synthesis. Pursuant to one aspect of the invention, a path of pitch candidates having low errors is tracked to determine a pitch estimate. Pursuant to another aspect of the invention, a number of parameters are used to classify speech segments. Pursuant to another aspect of the invention, a voicing parameter is determined using a threshold value and bands are marked voiced or unvoiced depending on two error functions that compare synthesized voiced and unvoiced spectra to an original speech spectrum. Pursuant to another aspect of the invention a voicing parameter is used to facilitate lower bits for transmitting voicing decisions. Last, pursuant to other aspects of the invention, unvoiced speech is synthesized by incorporating a random generator, and harmonics phases are initialized with a fixed set of values.

  • Patent number: 6949449
Abstract: A method of forming a scribe line having a sharp snap line entails directing a UV laser beam along a ceramic substrate such that a portion of the thickness of the ceramic substrate is removed. The UV laser beam forms a scribe line in the ceramic substrate in the absence of appreciable ceramic substrate melting so that a clearly defined snap line forms a region of high stress concentration extending into the thickness of the ceramic substrate. Consequently, multiple depthwise fractures propagate into the thickness of the ceramic substrate in the region of high stress concentration in response to a breakage force applied to either side of the scribe line to effect clean breakage of the ceramic substrate into separate circuit components. The formation of this region facilitates higher precision breakage of the ceramic substrate while maintaining the integrity of the interior structure of each component during and after application of the breakage force.

  • Patent number: 6920624
Abstract: A method and apparatus for translating a Gerber data file into a data format usable by vision software through a process whereby a first Gerber data element is selected and examined to determine if the shape represented by that element intersects with any other shapes. Each shape intersecting the selected element is merged into a single data object with the selected element. This process is repeated for each element describing the printed circuit board layout. The consequence of this procedure is that complex geometries that had been represented as the intersection of many simple geometries are represented as individual data objects.

  • Patent number: 6912496
Abstract: Pursuant to one aspect of the invention, a prefilter module that incorporates an inverse filter is used in conjunction with an encoder. The inverse filter has an inverse frequency response of a frequency response of a filter that simulates speech having transmission path characteristics, such as telephone-channel bandwidth speech, and/or noisy speech. The inverse filter is used to compensate transmission path characteristics of an input signal. The inverse filter can be designed using several methods, such as, for example, an autoregressive model or a moving average model. Pursuant to a second aspect of the invention, a parameter preprocessor is used in conjunction with a decoder. The parameter preprocessor performs pitch rectification through use of a medium and linear filter, and updates spectral amplitudes and voicing parameter depending on the pitch rectification.

  • Patent number: 6879198
Abstract: A differential input receiver with hysteresis on both sides of the reference voltage may include a two-input, one-output differential amplifier including two input transistors having a common terminal connected together. The control terminal of each transistor may be connected to one of the inputs of the differential amplifier. The output of the differential amplifier may be connected to a set of cascaded digital inverters/buffers, and an output of each digital buffer may be connected to the control terminal of a feedback transistor. The feedback transistor may be connected in parallel across each of the input transistors so that when one input voltage increases above or decreases below the input voltage at the second input by a predetermined threshold value, the feedback transistors operate to provide positive feedback to facilitate a rapid switching action at the output.
