  • Patent number: 6918626
Abstract: A cover assembly for covering an object subjected to an airstream due to transportation of the object in open air. The cover comprises a flexible cover adapted to fit over the object so as to conceal a portion of the object. An aperture is provided in the cover. A deflector is provided on an exterior surface of the cover and forward of the aperture with respect to a direction of transportation. The deflector is positioned such that a low pressure zone is created proximate to the aperture during transportation of the object in the direction by an airstream being deflected by the deflector, whereby air located between an interior of the cover and the object being transported exhausts through the aperture to an exterior of the cover to cause the cover to at least partially conform to the object.

  • Patent number: 6886588
Abstract: A buoyancy flushing apparatus is disclosed which comprises a reservoir for accumulating liquid, having an inlet for receiving liquid and an outlet chamber recessed in a bottom wall of the reservoir. The outlet chamber includes an outlet for draining liquid out of the reservoir. The apparatus further comprises an outlet valve movable between a down position where liquid accumulates in the reservoir and a raised position where liquid accumulated in the reservoir is flushed out via the outlet. The outlet valve comprises a ballast unit sized and shaped to fit loosely in the outlet chamber when said valve is in the down position; and a float unit topping the ballast unit to move the valve in the raised position by buoyancy when a sufficient amount of liquid is accumulated in the reservoir, thereby providing a passageway for liquid between the bottom wall of the reservoir and the valve leading to the outlet in the outlet chamber to flush liquid out of the reservoir.

  • Publication number: 20050052460
Abstract: When a Bézier spline is fitted to a plurality of points the two tangent handles at each control point can be very different in length. A method of fitting a second spline to the first spline that has tangent handles of equal length at each control point is provided. A point is found on the first spline that is close to the midpoint between the two control points defining the tangent handles. This point is a new control point on the second spline. Tangent handles to the new control point are then found such that they have a slope equal to the tangent to the first spline at the new control point, the sum of their lengths is equal to the sum of the original two tangent handles and their lengths are equal to each other. A second spline found in this way closely approximates the first spline. The lengths of the tangent handles may be adjusted to provide a better fit.

  • Publication number: 20050043530
Abstract: The present invention relates to genetically modified animals for the production of recombinant proteins. Particularly, pig's seminal vesicle and sexual accessory glands are genetically transformed to recombinantly produce such protein of interest in the semen of sexually mature pigs. Even complex proteins can be produced in large quantities and purified. The present invention also relates to mammal seminal gland tissue-specific promoters that can be used to make gene constructs including a protein-coding sequence not natively associated with the promoters or a sufficient portion of the promoter such that the portion actuates the preferential expression of the protein-coding sequence in the seminal vesicle and/or accessory tissues of mammals.

  • Publication number: 20050003348
Abstract: The HCV NS5B polymerase, when complexed with certain inhibitors, adopts a conformation in which the finger loop region defined by amino acid residues 18 to 35 is displaced to expose a binding pocket defined generally by amino acid residues 392, 393, 395, 396, 399, 424, 425, 428, 429, 492, 493, 494, 495, 496, 500 and 503. This newly exposed binding pocket defines a novel target in the search of further chemical entities which are capable of binding to HCV NS5B and modulating, or preferably inhibiting, the polymerase activity of HCV NS5B.

  • Publication number: 20040267524
Abstract: The use of SOLA speech time compression/expansion in the present invention method as a means to alter a speaker's talking rate by adjusting the speech rate at which people hear their own voice. A person speaks at a certain comfort rate, which is established and maintained by their own auditory system's capability to hear their own voice as they speak i.e., it is a self-auditory feedback mechanism. Changing the rate (112) at which a talker hears their own voice (130, 2012, 2024) will accordingly change their talking rate. This effect is achieved in this invention by employing a real time processing method (110, 402- 416, FIG. 10) that temporarily adjusts the speech rate in an effort to impose this psychoacoustic condition which coerces the speaker into changing their talking rate. This invention permits users to adjust the comfort rate at which they normally speak (124) or to adjust the rate at which others speak to them through the use of a speech processing device or system.

  • Publication number: 20040267540
Abstract: The present invention (110) permits a user to speed up and slow down speech without changing the speakers pitch (102, 110, 112, 128, 402-416). It is a user adjustable feature to change the spoken rate to the listeners' preferred listening rate or comfort. It can be included on the phone as a customer convenience feature without changing any characteristics of the speakers voice besides the speaking rate with soft key button (202) combinations (in interconnect or normal). From the users perspective, it would seem only that the talker changed his speaking rate, and not that the speech was digitally altered in any way. The pitch and general prosody of the speaker are preserved. The following uses of the time expansion/compression feature are listed to compliment already existing technologies or applications in progress including messaging services, messaging applications and games, real-time feature to slow down the listening rate.

  • Publication number: 20040236723
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for data evaluation, to a corresponding computer program product, and to a corresponding computer-readable storage medium, which can be especially used as an internet-based, patient-specific prognosis system. In this case, clinical, pathological and molecular biological data can be integrated, and said data can be combined with relevant prognoses for a particular patient. The system thus enables an oncologist, for example, to decide on an individual treatment on the basis of a specific information pattern. The quality of the prognosis is improved by determining significant and secondary variables, leading to a clear reduction in the quantity of data to be evaluated, to the acceleration of the data evaluation and to the improvement of the prognosis.
