  • Publication number: 20040221569
Abstract: In a process for forming a linking element for a push belt for a continuously variable transmission, material is displaced from a central portion of the linking element during a blanking process, which central portion is substantially centrally located in the horizontal transverse direction. A blanking member which is applied during the blanking process, comprises a shaping surface which abuts against a front surface or a back surface of the linking element under the influence of pressure during the blanking process. The blanking member is provided with a relatively elevated central portion, which serves to displace material from the central portion of the linking element during the blanking process.

Abstract: The invention relates to an optical device (2) for characterising a diffraction grating (14) which is formed by first and second interferometric diffractive sensors (4, 6) which are integral, spaced apart from each other at a determined first distance, and each comprise a reading grating (10a, 10b) and at least one light intensity detector, these first and second sensors providing respectively first and second electrical signals which, during a relative displacement (&Dgr;x) between the device and the diffraction grating, vary as a function of the spatial frequency of this grating in first and second regions of the latter, which regions are located respectively opposite two reading gratings and each receive light supplied by at least one light source. In particular, the first and second electrical signals define first and second phases of the first and second sensors.

  • Publication number: 20040144287
Abstract: A method and system for treating fly ash with a treating fluid by evenly dispersing a treating fluid into a flowing stream of fly ash. By dispersing the treating fluid into the fly ash as the fly ash is flowing, the method takes advantage of natural mixing and particle motion that occurs during flow of the bulk solid. The application of treating fluid is advantageously controlled by an automated controller that has inputs and outputs that allow the controller to adjust flow rate of the treating fluid in correspondence with a measured flow rate of the fly ash.

  • Publication number: 20040111794
Abstract: A buoyancy flushing apparatus is disclosed which comprises a reservoir for accumulating liquid, having an inlet for receiving liquid and an outlet chamber recessed in a bottom wall of the reservoir. The outlet chamber includes an outlet for draining liquid out of the reservoir. The apparatus further comprises an outlet valve movable between a down position where liquid accumulates in the reservoir and a raised position where liquid accumulated in the reservoir is flushed out via the outlet. The outlet valve comprises a ballast unit sized and shaped to fit loosely in the outlet chamber when said valve is in the down position; and a float unit topping the ballast unit to move the valve in the raised position by buoyancy when a sufficient amount of liquid is accumulated in the reservoir, thereby providing a passageway for liquid between the bottom wall of the reservoir and the valve leading to the outlet in the outlet chamber to flush liquid out of the reservoir.

  • Publication number: 20040094251
Abstract: The invention relates to a transponder which is mounted in a tire. The transponder includes at least a transponder chip and a transponder antenna and is embedded in a substrate. The substrate is connected to an inner side of the tire by a connecting structure. In order to provide a transponder with the longest possible service life, the substrate is decoupled from the inner side of the tire via a connecting structure in the form of a soft or gliding support in such a manner that no or only minimum mechanical stresses are transmitted to the substrate. The connecting structure is arranged between the substrate and the inner side of the tire.

  • Patent number: 6716129
Abstract: A vehicle transmission, for example a CVT transmission, is provided with a decoupling device between an engine output shaft and a vehicle driveline. The decoupling device in one embodiment includes a clutch assembly which is fixed to a shaft coupled to the transmission output and engageable with a driveline through a piston arrangement. The piston can be urged against the force of a spring by fluid pressure to cause engagement of the clutches of the clutch assembly and thereby to couple engine torque to the vehicle driveline. When fluid pressure is released, the spring urges the piston to a position in which the clutches of the clutch assembly are disengaged, so as to disengage the engine output from the vehicle driveline. In the disengaged state, the vehicle can be towed.

  • Patent number: 6708808
Abstract: A torque-transmitting mechanism has first and second housing members, which are interconnected by a plurality of friction members. The torque-transmitting mechanism also includes an apply piston, which has an apply head slidably disposed within one of the housings and a spring body portion, which is effective to urge the apply head out of engagement with the friction members. The apply head is urged into engagement with the friction members through the application of pressure to an apply chamber formed between the apply head, the spring body, and the one housing. Upon release of the pressure within the apply chamber, the spring body enforces retraction of the apply head and disengagement of the torque-transmitting mechanism.
