  • Publication number: 20100209248
Abstract: A system for the structural monitoring of blades 1 on a wind turbine. Each blade 1 has respective optical fibre bragg grating sensors 5. The system has a number of input connectors, which connect to the strain sensors 5 of respective blades 1. A single output connector connects to a data processing device 3 which processes signals from the strain sensors 5. The input connectors each have a signal path to the output connector that is different in length to the signal path from the other input connectors, such that signals from a given blade 1 can be identified at the data processing device 3 by the time of arrival of the signals. The system has the advantage that the each of the blades 1, including the sensors attached to it or embedded within it can be identical and therefore interchangeable.

  • Publication number: 20100104612
Abstract: Fragrance leaches rapidly from capsules having shells made from cross linked gelatin into volatile silicone oils. Unfortunately such oils are much favoured for anhydrous antiperspirant compositions. The rate and extent of leaching can be ameliorated greatly or nearly halted by employing as carrier oil, an ester oil or an ether oil, even in the presence of a significant fraction of volatile silicone oil. Consequently, the capability of antiperspirant compositions to generate detectable fragrance over an extended period after application to the skin is improved by employing ester or ether oil as all or part of the carrier liquid in which the antiperspirant is suspended.

  • Publication number: 20100104613
Abstract: It is desirable for antiperspirant or deodorant roll-on compositions to be able to deliver fragrance over an extended period of time after application, but previously contemplated encapsulates were based on starch or similar water-soluble or dispersible shell materials, rendering them ineffective in aqueous emulsions. Capsules of fragrances in cross-linked coacervated gelatin shells satisfying defined particle size, shell thickness and hardness criteria enable roll-on compositions to be incorporated into aqueous antiperspirant or deodorant compositions encapsulated fragrance that can be released after the composition has been topically applied to skin.

  • Publication number: 20090227451
Abstract: The present invention is directed to improved seed coatings which facilitate fall or early spring planting while maintaining seed dormancy until soil temperatures are appropriate for successful germination. The improved seed coatings contain encapsulated phase change materials within a polymeric shell which preserve the dormancy of the seed during early planting by slowing the rate at which the seed temperature rises in the event of a temperature spike thus preventing premature germination. The encapsulated phase change material is a material characterized by a solid/liquid or liquid/solid phase change which occurs at a temperature which ranges from about ?5 to about 20° C., preferably between about 0 to about 19° C., most preferably between about 5 to about 15° C.

  • Patent number: 7401485
Abstract: Steel strip issues continuously from a downstream end of a rolling line and can be wound up there on a coiler. An inspection table downstream of the rolling line has a surface aligned with the downstream end and the strip emerging therefrom. The coiler is below a plane of the table surface. During normal rolling the strip is deflected downward to the coiler and reeled up. For inspection of the strip, the strip is cut transversely to produce a new leading end and is fed starting at this end toward the table without substantial deflection. Then the strip is cut again upstream of the new leading end to form a strip sample separate from the strip emerging from the rolling line, which sample is fed to the table and arrested and inspected while strip emerging from the line is deflected back down to the coiler to continue coiling it up.
