  • Publication number: 20200170217
Abstract: A neck rail (142, 242, 42) system is provided for an animal stall. The neck rail (142, 242, 42) has first and second end segments (152, 52) defining a common axis (58) and a middle segment having a neck-receiving portion which is offset from the common axis (58) and which accommodates the neck of an animal. First and second receivers (44) are mounted on the sides of a stall In and are adapted to receive the first and second end segments (152, 52) of the neck rail (142, 242, 42). At least the first receiver (144, 44, 46) and the first end (150, 154, 50, 54) segment of the rail are provided with complementary locking formations which can be brought into and out of engagement by axial displacement, and which locking formations prevent angular rotation of the neck rail (142, 242, 42) relative to the first receiver (144, 44, 46) when engaged with one another.

  • Patent number: 10317983
Abstract: Accessory device power management techniques are described in which a power exchange state for a system including a host computing device, an accessory device, and an adapter is recognized. Power exchange states may be defined according to relative states of charge (RSOC) and connection status for the system components and mapped to power management control actions. Responsive to the recognition of a current power exchange state, corresponding power management control actions may be ascertained and applied to jointly manage power for the system. For instance, the host device may draw supplemental power from a power source associated with an accessory device (e.g., a battery or power adapter) or supply power for use by the accessory device according to different states. Power exchanges may also be managed in accordance with capabilities of the accessory device identified based on authentication of the accessory device.

  • Publication number: 20180192611
Abstract: A mat for a bovine animal has an elastomeric body having a ground-engaging underside and a top side, the mat having a head end and a tail end. The top side has a generally planar area on which a cow may rest in use, and a portion of the generally planar area towards the head end is bounded on either side and across the head end thereof by a barrier integrally formed with the elastomeric material of the mat. The barrier projects upwardly above the generally planar area, and defines a pair of arms extending on either side of the bounded portion. The configuration of the mat encourages an animal to rest correctly on the mat, increasing comfort and reducing the chance of injury, while also avoiding the problems of hygiene and installation difficulties associated with known mats and their accessories.

  • Patent number: 9922482
Abstract: A time-locking container to limit the compulsive overuse of objects and substances, such as but not limited to money, food, alcohol, and tobacco. The container locks until a future date and time of day set by the user. The unit displays the duration of locking, permits the user to cancel, and can require affirmative confirmation if locking exceeds a user-selected maximum duration. This feature prevents an accidental prolonged lockout. While the container is locked, the user can extend, but not shorten, the duration of locking. This feature permits the user, while experiencing guilt due to overindulgence, to further delay access without the temptation of an open door.

  • Publication number: 20170102374
Abstract: A method of observing live microorganisms in an animal tissue sample over an extended duration of time which enables the detection and identification of multiple different microbes present in the sample is performed using a phase contrast microscope and begins with the preparation of a sample containing animal tissue for viewing with the microscope. Once the sample is prepared, an initial, baseline observation of the sample is performed using the microscope. Following the initial observation of the sample and after at least one selected time interval which allows objects in the sample to naturally undergo changes in morphology, at least one subsequent observation is performed with the microscope so as to analysis of the activity of selected objects in the sample. Through the analysis, microorganisms in the animal tissue may be detected and identified based on observed changes in morphology and biofilm characteristic.
