  • Publication number: 20160066225
Abstract: An electronic device monitors a quality of a wireless connection between the electronic device and a first access point. Based on the monitoring and a collection of parameters relating to controlling handover between access points, a determination is made regarding whether the electronic device should be handed over to a second access point from the first access point, where the parameters differ for different combinations of the first access point and candidate destination access points for handover of the electronic device from the first access point.

  • Publication number: 20160057696
Abstract: A mobile communication device identifies and selects a wireless local area network (WLAN) available for communications in its coverage area. Automatically, without detecting any requests made by a user via a browser application. The mobile device initiates a request (e.g. an HTTP GET request) to a predetermined server site of a communication network which is outside of the WLAN. In response to initiating the request, the mobile device receives a response message via the WLAN and identifies, from the response message, whether the request to the predetermined server site has been redirected to a redirect server site. The WLAN may be a WLAN “hotspot,” where the redirect server site is a login server. The identifying may be performed by comparing content from the response message to predetermined content of the predetermined server site. In response to identifying that the request has been redirected, the mobile device causes an indication to be produced at its user interface.

  • Patent number: 9268777
Abstract: Systems and techniques for directing data collection. Upon an initial data collection, the uncertainty of all or of a portion or portions of the collected data is evaluated. The collected data may be associated with a region, with portions of the collected data associated with subregions. Further data collection, including changes to or refinement of collection techniques, is undertaken based on evaluations of the uncertainty. Further data collection may be undertaken only for portions of the data for which uncertainty exceeds a threshold. Uncertainty evaluation may be performed at least in part using a model. The model may be an initial hypothesis model, and the model may be optimized as further data is collected, and the optimized model may be used to guide further data collection techniques, with iterations of data collection and model optimization being carried out concurrently.

  • Patent number: 9266029
Abstract: A structure comprises an elongate, resiliently deformable cable, a body section comprising a cable-receiving aperture, said aperture being dimensioned so as to retain a length of said cable within it in use while permitting relative movement of said cable relative to the aperture in a direction along the length of the cable upon application of a set manipulating force, and retaining means for retaining the cable at a set position relative to the body section absent application of said force, wherein the cable at least partially defines the shape of the structure, and said shape may be changed by application of said manipulating force thus causing relative movement between the cable and the body section in a direction along the length of the cable.

  • Patent number: 9262528
Abstract: Linguistic analysis is used to identify queries from a plurality of users over a period of time that use different natural language formations to request similar information. Common intent categories are identified for the queries requesting similar information. Intent responses can then be provided that are associated with the identified intent categories. An intent management tool can be used for identifying new intent categories, identifying obsolete intent categories, or refining existing intent categories. The said intent categories are used in identifying ontologies associated with the intent categories to help in selecting concepts as ontology parameters.

  • Publication number: 20160041106
Abstract: An apparatus for viewing images of a gemstone is described. The apparatus comprises a support structure for supporting the gemstone at an observation position. An illumination structure comprises a plurality of directional light sources directed towards the observation position so as to illuminate the gemstone. The support structure and illumination structure are relatively rotatable relative to one another about a rotation axis. An imaging device is arranged to obtain images of the gemstone at the observation position at a variety of relative rotational positions between the illumination structure and support structure: the imaging device has an imaging axis passing through the observation position. The support structure is arranged so that the gemstone can be placed at the observation position in such a way that the normal to a selected facet of the gemstone is within a range of tilt angles from the rotation axis.

  • Publication number: 20160007272
Abstract: A mobile device may retrieve service information about a network prior to associating with the network. Utilizing an advertisement protocol to transmit service query messages, a mobile device may receive service query responses from a network that identify the services available prior to establishing network capability. • Publication number: 20150376758
Abstract: A method for the hot-dip coating of metal strip, in particular steel strip, in a metallic melting bath (3) is disclosed. In the method, the metal strip (1) to be coated is heated in a continuous furnace (2) and is introduced into the melting bath (3) through a snout (6) which is connected to the continuous furnace and which is immersed into the melting bath. To be able to satisfy the requirements placed on the coated strip (1) with regard to good deformability of the strip, as far as possible without cracking and peeling, and with regard to high anti-corrosion protection in a more effective and reliable manner, the disclosure proposes that, in the region delimited by the snout (6), a melt is used which is intentionally implemented differently, in terms of its chemical composition, than the chemical composition of the melt used in the melting bath (3).

  • Patent number: 9226201
Abstract: To improve network coverage or reduce false handover triggering, at least one client terminal is set to operate as a virtual access point (VAP) in a first wireless network by an AP controller. If a mobile device detects that a signal quality estimate of communications via an AP or the first wireless network is below a first value, the mobile device performs a handover procedure to the VAP. While maintaining the call via the VAP, if the mobile device detects that the signal quality estimate is back above the first value, the mobile device performs a handover procedure back to the AP of the first wireless network. On the other hand, if the mobile device detects that the signal quality estimate is below a second value which is less than the first value, the mobile device performs a vertical handover procedure from the VAP to a base station of a second wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20150368776
Abstract: An apparatus for hot dip coating metal strip is disclosed having a dip bath vessel (4), a snout (6) which opens into the dip bath vessel for introducing a metal strip (1) which is heated in a continuous furnace into the dip bath, and a deflecting roller (7) which is arranged in the dip bath vessel for deflecting the metal strip (1) which enters into the dip bath in a direction which points out of the dip bath. The snout (6) is provided with a shaft-shaped snout extension piece (6.1) for increasing the snout dipping depth, the internal width of the snout extension piece (6.1) tapering toward its outlet opening (6.15) at least over a part length of said snout extension piece (6.1). As a result, an increase or maximization of the eddy flow in the molten metal at or close to the metal strip (1) and therefore improved homogenization of the molten metal in the region of the strip is achieved, as a result of which slag-induced surface defects on the surface of the coated metal strip (1) can be avoided.

  • Publication number: 20150368777
Abstract: A metallic flat product is disclosed which is subjected to surface finishing by hot-dip coating and which is preferably composed of steel. The metallic flat product includes a metallic alloy layer (11) and a metallic surface layer (12?), which metallic alloy layer and metallic surface layer differ from one another in terms of their chemical composition. The two layers (11, 12?) are produced in a one process step and define a continuous transition region (13) in which a mixture of the two different chemical compositions is present. The metallic alloy layer (11) has a thickness of less than 8 preferably less than 6 ?m, and the surface layer (12?) is formed from aluminum or zinc. The flat product has an improved coating, by means of which the flat product, more effectively satisfies the requirements with regard to good deformability and has good anti-corrosion protection.
